Review Geelong defeats GCS by 37 points at KP - Round 5 2020

Rohan was actually slowed down by injuries (especially the concussion, and then a couple of knee injuries) rather than match fitness I think.

Has also been one of the worst finals performers in recent decades.
Blaming poor form (despite being fit enough to play every week) on injury is a cop out.

Staggering he is still on a list to be honest. Had 4 really good games in a row from about round 4-8 last year give or take a game. Has been terrible the rest of the time. Does two decent things in a game and people think he played well. Cant find the pill, has terrible foward craft, not much of an overhead mark and a poor tackler.

Finally got to see the game. Good win to celebrate the champs. Thought the Suns let us back into the game when they were on top in the third quarter with some sloppy passing, but we were good to take the opportunities and reassert.

Thoughts on some players-

- Blitz- having trouble when isolated against quality talls, particularly vulnerable ‘out the back‘ plays

- Henry- still a tad rusty but his athleticism and physical commitment is first class. Not bad by foot as well.

- MOC - best performed defender this season.

- Fort - pretty good game actually. Last couple of weeks he has had patches where he has beaten two of the tallest tap specialist. His second efforts are hard to fault. His ‘arc’ has an upward trajectory and Stanley’s doesn’t.

- Rohan- thought he was quite good. Seems to be playing further up the ground than the fwd pocket and is able to get more involved, use his passing skills which are quite useful. Keep him there.

- Hawk -great game. I love it when he plays further up the field, his vision and foot skills are sublime for a player of his size. CFH is his position, IMO.

Menegola- another very good game. I had him on ‘shaky ground’ as one to drop off this list and he’s proving me wrong, big time. Linking play has been poised and effective. Notice he seems to have lost a bit of weight.

Parfitt-another I had on my trade out list! Continues to bring that massive tackle pressure and in tight pack clearing that we’ve been missing. Also seems to have been really disciplined with his weight and fitness over the break. Going so well with the tackle pressure I think we’ll see some opposition tactics to negate his influence.

Sav-if he can bring that 2nd half for full games consistently then we actually are a real threat this year.

Scott - The application of the team and the rotations, moves were spot on. Basic coaching stuff, sure, but should get credit anyway. (We’ve screwed up milestone games in the past! Relieved not this time).

Rohan had 10 disposals, 5 tackles and booted 2 goals against Carlton and he was our best player that game? https://www.afl.com.au/matches/2031#player-stats
It appears Stewart and Duncan were clearly ahead of Rohan but it's good you like to be rather selective with your view of players performances.

You're entitled to your opinion, (which i think is incorrect), and you are at odds with many posters who voted on this board as well, who by a very large majority had Rohan as Geelong's best in the Carlton game....so I am hardly selective in my view of player performance.

....but you being at odds with this board on Geelong player performance is par for the course......so whose surprised?

I actually had him as our best (behind Guthrie) in that Carlton game.
But yes you are correct. (Apart from Blicavs) he has been consistently the worst finals player in the league for a decade and overall maybe the most constant underperforming player I've ever seen.
I don't mind him, it's really good when he finds a way to impact, but as you say to call him an important player is ridiculous.
He is the last player a club could ever rely on to perform.
And most of the time when we really need him to he won't.

Parfitts tackling and pressure on the weekend was outstanding. Had genuine impact with a couple of goals too. But I want to see him racking up the ball more. 11 touches in a game just won’t cut it for mine. He also had just 3 in the first half against the Demons. He has all the tools to be a very good player, but he needs to find the ball more IMO..

No he doesn't that's our problem Guthrie hasn't been dropped in 3 years with much worse numbers than that and on a consistent basic.

He looks so much better when Ratugolea is playing well as a forward, too - it's like it releases him to cover more of the ground. 3.2 and four assists in the shortened game is pretty much a perfect game on paper for a tall forward.

What I really liked about his game is that he was also able to get a little bit of cheap ball - something he really struggled with early in his career, and something that Ratugolea still struggles with. Just enough to keep him involved in the game.

I could live with 11 touches if he just stopped getting caught HTB while standing still so frequently. It’s really getting to be a problem.

Rohan a poor tackler, ok.....Lose a bit of credibility there.

Fact is, our best football since Rohan has arrived has been with him in the side and playing well.

He clearly can't play a full season, there is a problem there. We need one of Cockatoo or Rohan fit and firing in the finals. It is not a great bet that it will happen but i don't see any other options for that position.

Needs to find it more and use it better. Few of his disposals on the weekend when we had a good run of play going were shocking. Just a young player so hopefully that continues to improve, though.

Yep, that’s the other issue, he does get caught HTB a lot. It’s quite strange, because he does generally have good composure, vision and awareness in close
