Review Geelong defeats Sydney by 59 points

One of my group on Friday said straight after the game that he worried Geelong had just played its GF; stress because that was what I was calling it earlier in week. Ahh. Hope not I tell you.

Despite what commentators said the game was very hot early and Syd certainly came to play. Buds corky probably helped but they had all their regular match winners playing and it was these guys who cooked us the last few times. Only Mitchell is missing from last year. Roles reversed with long bombs into fwd 50 for them and direct low kicks from us. Duncan follow up after Hawk fumble after Parsons tunnel ball collect was a breaker. Game wasn't over but momentum was with us you felt at that point and when it is things go for you.

Thought Nicholls was ok in the umpiring and that deliberate OOB wasn't him I think; boy that was a bad call.

Go Cats!!

Only disappointing thing was the lack of Cats supporters there. At best 50/50 crowd of 56k. Not good timing for families and insufficient trains to Richmond station.

a cranky, crazy, old cat lady needs more likes.

Hahahaha....think you will earn yourself a DM from the moral arbiter.:D

Don't get this.

No one? They've beaten Adelaide this year. How can they not be a big chance?

50/50 game as far as I can see.

Yeah, fairly confident going into this game, especially if they are switched on like they were on Friday night.

I was in the AFL members and it was more like 70/30 Geelong. Lot of neutrals too though.

Seemed like more of us there, it was pretty loud in parts, the Geeeeeloonngggg chant was going quite well there too for a bit.

Was a great crowd, everyone behaved themselves, Syd supporters are a pleasure to be around, on the whole.

"by 59 points" that still is giving me a big smile. We didn't just put to bed our Swans demons. We buried them.

I had a reverie once, in Kardenia Park, packed out, one side of the stadium screamed "We are!", and the opposite side echoed "Gee-long". over and over.

I think that might make it the cauldron we want. :)

Thats absolutely right about the syd supporters. The last time I went to the SCG in '13 they were unbelievably good. Totally different vibe. Wife came along and she had a good time and normally she hates the football. For instance she thought all the girls were better dressed than at Vict games and there was polite clapping. Absolute contrast to QF against the Tigers.

Having lived in Sydney for almost a decade in total (5 in the mid 90's + 5 up until last year), I would go to every SCG game I could get on to, just to get some AFL live. Their supporters have changed a lot since my first stint there, but they were always good fun to sit next to. These days they are far more astute about the game, but I can't remember when I have seen or heard anything other than friendly banter - no abuse, no shit slinging - always got time for them.

I lived in Syd in the '90's for about 4 years and went to heaps of games. Can't really remember much about the crowds at all then. They were just innocuous then I suppose. But the interesting thing is that they have garnered an actual large local support and following in the eastern suburbs which is a compliment to them.

Just wanted to come in and congratulate you guys on a bloody fantastic win! We played the worst footy since the Carton fiasco in round 6 IMO but credit where credit is due... You absolutely pumped us! There's no ifs buts or maybes about it. A well deserved win.

I really respect your club & in particular what you've managed to achieve for over a decade now. That "rebuild on the run" I feel has similarities to my own club (albeit you guys are slightly up in the "cups won" category). Just a well run, tough, smart footy club.

I'll be barracking your boys on for the remainder. All the best. Hoping for another comprehensive display against the Crows this Friday.

C'mon you Catters!! :D:thumbsu:

Showed some interesting footage on Talking Footy before. Showed behind the goals footage of Danger at full forward and a passage of play where he led straight up the ground at one stage, before leading into the pocket, and not only Rampe, but 3 other Swans players went to cut his lead off, allowing us to kick it into the opposite pocket, which resulted in a mark and goal to Menegola.

From memory, that was how Zac Smith took his mark and goaled. Reid followed Danger's lead instead of being able to influence the contest and Smith had Josh Kennedy following him in.

I sat behind the Sydney goals with some Swans friends and the best part was the group of Cats supporters in the standing area chanting and singing all game.

The main board game day fred is delicious reading when we win.

Watching the Stewart run gets me pumped for tomorrow night
Should post that in the game day thread to pump up the fans - one of the best individual efforts I've seen.
