Re: Scarlett

All of those frees were there like it or not. Hale never had his hands around Mackie's neck (don't know what footage you saw), and he didn't have hands in Taylor's back, he held his ground with his forearm a la Mooney did twice and Mackie was in Hales back going for the ball. Now should we review the whole game and cite some of the soft ones your guys got?

Don't sit here and say the umps gave Hale an armchair ride as it really comes across as sour grapes and your club and supporters should be better than that because you have a superior team and don't need to make up any lame excuses. We were done fair and square and we should cop it sweet as you should all stop whine about umpires and be at least gracious in winning. That is all I'm saying.:)

l agree that hale had a great game and that pack mark was great but you cant say he did'nt get alittle help from the umps eg the harley spoil

Re: Lonergan to CHB?

Wasn't until I was reviewing the photos I shot of the game that I realised Dasher was even playing. This is the first time I can ever remember him being that invisible throughout an entire game.

I don't recall seeing him much after he nearly took a mark in the goal square in the 2nd qtr. Then I see the stats after the game and he only had about 8 possessions, which is amazing considering his last game at SS he had about 20 in the 1st qtr v Freo.He really was the invisible man.

Re: Scarlett

Egan had him well held until Brown stood on his foot. Scarlett then went to him and he kicked 4 or 5 in the last quarter.

just shows the importance of the big egan pity he's not playing thou the finals

Re: Geelong Defence Vulnerable Against The Big Boys?

Give Otto 10 mins against Hale >> blubbering mess.:)

Seriously tho' the Cats will work hard on fixing that aberration up (as Bomber promises), but Laidley can also see that quick/long bomb-ins might be one way to get his team closer. One on one our backline will struggle with a big, in-form forward - but that's precisely what the coaching staff will be working on for the next month.

Don't forget thgo' that this was a far bigger game for the Kangas than it was for Geelong, who will switch on at least another 10% come finals time.

The key to beating the Cats is simple : find a way to overcome their defence and stop their counter attack (never let the ball hit the ground); get on top of their centres and onballers; negate Otto and Blake in the ruck; quell SJ, the Camster, Chappie, Stokes up forward; stop Ling. Good luck doing that if the Cats are anywhere near their best, which is what will be happening in the next 6 weeks.

I have it on the very best authority that after he awarded the free to Hale for the Harley spoil , the umpire told Tom that he ( the umpire ) had made a mistake.

Re: Geelong Defence Vulnerable Against The Big Boys?

Cats are going incredibly well but I have to say I’m a little concerned about our defence at the moment heading into the finals… If we have one hole in our armour I believe it’s holding opposition tall forwards, and seeing Hale dismantle our defence yesterday looked concerning.. Without Egan in our side our tallest defenders are about 192cm (Harley, Scarlett, Taylor, Mackie) and when faced with players 196cm and above we seem to struggle a bit. I worry a little about playing the Hawks again as they have the tools to really exploit us in this area… Wish we had Egan so much right now! What are your guy’s thoughts? Any chance Lonergan could play a role down back?

OK a bit of perspective is needed here. North had, and still do, fourth spot to play for.
Hale was dominant regrdless of whether he got frees or not and congrats to North and Laidley on his effort it was first class.
Geelong was playing for pride and despite not playing at our best dominated the contest which resulted in 30 scoring shots to Norths 17 which could have resulted in a much bigger margin.
Hale marked and kicked superbly, and North will be hoping he can do it again in two weeks time. I am much happier he does it now and hopefully not in two weeks time plus it gives Geelong food for thought and I will be very surprised if he kicks anywhere near eight again.
those saying he beat Scarlett last ime too have convenient memories, as i recall it he went off early in the second and had only two goals at the most kicked on him.
Scarlo is very proud and competitive so he will marking his time.
Lastly if our defence was so bad how come in almost perfect conditions North kicked a total of 82 points (a whole seven more than our season average) and this was largely due to very accurate kicking (14 goals 4 behinds). no doubt our defence was down but a long way from out. We will learn from this much the same way we learnt from Collingwood earlier in the year. Remember motivation works both ways not just against the reigning premier.

I watched the replays a number of times and Hale shouldn't have got those frees. You are a tool though, even the commentators on Foxtel said points #2 and #3 went against Geelong so no, despite what you say you are wrong. Read the rules regarding pushing in the back. A push in the back is a push in the back regardless of using forearms or not. He didn't hold his ground, he shoved Taylor forward two steps. No point in discussing this with idiots with rose coloured glasses.
