Play Nice Geelong home final at GHMBA Stadium, is this an unfair advantage?

It's a lot more fair that for finishing 1st they get to play their 'home final' in a different city on their opponent's home ground who have just played 7 consecutive games there, and the game will be on a Thursday or Friday night, which will make it difficult for the 'home' team's supporters based in the home city to get to the 'home' ground in a different city, whereas it won't be difficult for the 'away' side's fans who have just seen their team play seven consecutive home games at the 'away' ground to make it.

That seems like a picture of fairness to me. Good motivation to play for top spot.

Add to that 5th/6th will get a home final on a 20k ground.

I never gave a s**t about where we played but if the AFL makes rules for one then it should be for all.

This is actually the part of us playing home finals in Melbourne which annoys me the most. I understand why we play them at the MCG, but why can't it be Saturday afternoon or Saturday night to at least allow a good chunk of Geelong fans to make it to the game

Like us having to play the Friday specialists in North in 98 eventhough we finished higher.

Would Geelong be top if their ground was shared with 3 other clubs and they couldn’t train on it.
Leg up through the regular season and then it’s down the road to the home of football for finals. Poor buggers

7 games in a row at your home ground is a leg up.

We have been to Sydney, WA and Brisbane in the last month.

You guys haven't moved for 2 months.

There's only one club in Geelong. They don't need to share it. And if it were treated as a regular home ground, they'd receive an additional two home games there and might get seven consecutive games there like Richmond get at the MCG, so I think it would probably all level out.

Try taking Geelong and Richmond out of it- that seems to be really what gets you tiger fans going after all.
What if Footscray finished top and Collingwood finished 4th. And the first final is Footscray v pies at the MCG. ( 2 games v 14 games at the venue this year, and repeated in 2018, 17...that is 42 v 6 games in the last 3 years.)
Which team is advantaged?
Footscray. Not often they get to play at the MCG.

Yes, that's a good thought. I was thinking more the 2016 and 2017 QF's where we played Friday night, it would have been better if we had the Saturday afternoon or Saturday night slot to ensure more of our fans can attend

Arguing @Richmond_FC enjoys a home ground advantage over @GeelongCats is ridiculous. GFC players train & play #GMHBA about 150 times a year. GFC play 5 @MCG. Tigers play 13 times MCG (as others do) & train at Punt Road. MCG is not home ground advantage like GFC at Geelong.

Well, colour me ******* surprised. A home team gets a home ground advantage at their home ground. You've cracked the ******* code with this one.

Aye bro, did you know Barcelona FC allocate away fans max 2000 tickets of their 99,000 capacity stadium and shove them high up on the top deck so you can't hear them? That's ******* mean if you ask me!!!:mad::mad:

Biggest home ground advantage in the league due to it being Geelong's training venue.
This is because it's in a league where the other 17 clubs don't get to play any home games at their own training venues.
It's not hard to understand.

Geelong is a similar distance from the MCG as Wallan in the North or Mornington in the South East. Plenty of AFL fans from all parts of Melbourne travel for around 1 hour to get to the MCG.
It might be a different city politically but geographically Geelong is essentially an outer suburb of Melbourne.

A lot of Geelong supporters live in the Bellarine Peninsula or the Western District.

My parents used to come down from Port Fairy for 5-6 a year and had reserved seats @ KP. When they put the lights in and these games were no longer accessible they ditched their seats. They only make it down for One MCG game a year and have to stay overnight so it is an expensive exercise.

I’m not complaining .
This home final thing as a right has never been part of footy culture as far as I can remember. Country leagues are allocated grounds before the start of the season and pretty sure there wouldn’t have been too many finals at Punt Rd or Kardinia Park.
It’s a just an interstate thing

I’m not complaining. Best thing Richmond ever did was move to the G in the 60s

Geelong is not in any way an outer suburb of Melbourne.

The city, not its supporters.

Plenty of support in the Western districts all the way along to Mt Gambier, through Horsham and Hamilton.

Problem with friday night games, is that most people knock off at 5. If you work in the city, or even in the Geelong CBD, you can make it to the ground before the first bounce. But if you're working in Torquay, or Colac good luck getting to a train station before 6.30pm. Saturday 2.10pm is the best time for Cats fans to go to the G.

Geelong is 72km from Melbourne, Mornington is 57km from Melbourne, Wallan is 45km from Melbourne.

Then I live 100km from Melbourne.

Has the CEO responded to the rejection yet?

To be honest If I was a Geelong fan I would be pretty fed up with their board's continual wishy washy response to this subject.

They say they want 11 home games and yet never come out and say how disappointed they are to play Easter Monday every year.

The supporters are Always complaining Melbourne is too far away yet Geelong continue to use Crown as their B and F location.
T
This has been going on for far too long and it doesn't look like the Geelong Board care that much.

The supporters need an organised Boycott. If crowd figures for MCG games and MCG finals fall low enough, the club might start to put some real pressure on the AFL to act.

Brian Cook was on SEN last night.

The club got a call from the AFL yesterday saying reports of KP finals 'rejection' were incorrect. It's still undecided at this stage.

He went on to say that in an ideal world they would play home finals at their home ground. BUT the the club is are well aware of all the different variables at play and will be happy to play wherever they are scheduled. Bottom line for him is the club controls what is in their power - that is winning enough games to host a final.
