I'm very content with the Ablett to the middle play being a break in case of emergency scenario.
Especially at the SCG, it's really hard playing as a half forward, you basically get ignored completely, no doubt that's what the move was about, getting Gaz into the game.
On the 'G, with the sun shining and a nice dry deck, you'll see the best of Gaz across half forward.
The scg is only one metre shorter than the Gabba. It was very short 10 years ago. Not anymore.

Had my first visit to the SCG yesterday. It has to be said its a bloody beautiful ground. People were friendly (except for this one feral who plonked themselves next to me and kept looking at the big screen behind my head so they could mumble in my face passive aggressive banter), great atmosphere really. Had a lot of swannies supporters come over to chat about how much they miss Rohan.

Discussing the game on the way home, the lovely and I both agreed that it was the best we had seen Parsons play. Was he a world beater? No. Did he lift beyond expectations? In the second half definitely yes.

Bews was staggering around like he was sore. This started very early. I didnt see what might have happened to him, but he was struggling to make the contests.

How bloody good is Clark? I love watching this guy play. You can see that he is constantly learning from every play, whether or not he did it successfully. Im looking forward to watching him develop.

Hawk is a monster. Has a glimmer of the 2011 finals series about him at the moment. I just hope all the boys can push themselves to the next level.

Um no he didnt.

- 18 disposals of which 15 were counted as effective; equal 5th best for the team
- 425m gained; the new "it"measurement, and 2nd only to Kelly for the team yesterday
- 4 x inside 50s to go with 3 x rebound 50s
- 5 score involvements
- 2 turnovers; compared with Kelly (6), Danger (7), Ablett (10), Joel (3), Duncan (4), Scooter (6), who all have been praised for their efforts yesterday combined for 36 of our 73 turnovers

So, yes he had a good game, showed something and that yesterday's game should be the style of game he's aiming for each week. He brings that to every game & chances are he finds himself around the 22 each week

I find that hard to swallow about Bews because he was one defender who spoiled quite a few entries, he might not get a lot of possessions but he did his job well, he also adds some dash out of the backline.
During the first half, he seemed to be one of the few who was willing to take the game on from the back half & try to provide run & drive; and that was much appreciated at the time
He had zero disposals in both the 1st and 3rd quarters. Don't know how he adds dash when he doesn't even touch the ball. Send him back to the vfl.

Seeds did you go to the Swans game and sit next to Premi3rship and see who this feral was that he's talking about? :):)

Just going off what I watched - I missed majority of the 1st quarter as I wasn't home, but we seemed to have trouble getting the ball out of defence & were kinda stagnant with ball movement.

In the second quarter there were a couple of times where Bews got the ball and rather than just kicking long as the first option, he tried to take the game on & actually run with the ball; something we have lacked out of defence on more than a few occasions this years

Good idea for him to run with the ball, since as often as not his kicks go OOF.

You left out the most important stat: shimmies.
How many shimmies did he perform?

Thank you for bringing this up. As we all now know, it pretty much defines if you end up making it as an AFL player (winger) or not.

Its an innate ability mate, some have it, some don't, can't be trained or taught, despite all the efforts to recruit specialist shimmy coaches from around the world.

The one where Gaz ran the opposite way to all the Geelong players before booting it out of bounds was just his tribute to Heath Shaw.

It was also one of the most bizarre moments I have ever seen in watching the AFL/VFL for nearly 40 years.

To witness that from any player at the elite level (let alone a GOAT-like figure) was totally bemusing.

I've coached completely inept 10-year olds who never quite managed an effort like that.

What was he thinking?

Funniest one I ever saw in the U10s, kid had a free kick paid against him for holding the ball; he was directed to stand on the mark and throw the ball to his opponent, which he did. But then he forgot what came next, saw the ball in the air, and took a kick at it.

And kicked a goal

Better send Gaz to the VFL as well then because he hardly touched it in the first half!!!!

I like Jed, but he's an easy out for me.
Maybe, MAYBE against Richmond I could see reason to play him more, but their small forwards can only hurt you if you allow their midfield to win and get plenty of easy ball into their forwardline.
Stop their spread and transition, break even or win the midfield battle and their smalls are largely irrelevant.
Otherwise I see Tuohy and Bews competing for the same spot.
Gee it's an absolute no brainer Tuohy V Bews. One is an outstanding player at his best and a tradesman at worst. The other is a tradesman at best and a non contributor at his worst. TUOHY every day of the Week! Is IN Geelong's Best 22

Seeds would have loved Jordan Dawson's goal! Football pr0n in it's highest form!

Was he possessionless in the first quarter also and something like only 2 disposals in the first half or was it 2 disposals in the first quarter?
