looking at geelongs list and seriously if they get a few injuries they are nearly gone. without Ottens they have nearly the worst ruck stocks in the league. Take out Mooney and they've got no decent key forwards.

Hawthorn will probably annihilate them

Agree, we lack a lot of depth with our talls, but we have a lot of depth with our small players. Last years clear out got rid of a lot of our tall depth players

If we get a few injuries? Last week we were missing an All-Australian centre-half back, All-Australian ruckman, All-Australian and MVP midfielder. What more do you want us to miss?

When you've got a luxury of playing Brent Prismall in the magoos while he picks up a gazillion touches, I reckon you've got depth. Lets not forget Ottens is going to come back in...

Would this be the ruckman who is 4th in the league for total hitouts? Blake isn't setting the world on fire but he's a lot better than most second ruckmen in the competition.

Take out Mooney and they've got no decent key forwards.

Hawkins is hardly bad, and we've got Scotty Simpson coming up through the ressies.

The fact that we've won 7 on the trot without Ottens is HUGE, never mind that we've beaten St Kilda, Brisbane and Pavlich without the services of Egan.

You are right, there are no massive names on the Geelong list outside the current 22.

But...

Who is on Hawthorn's list outside the 22 that is so great?

Dowler, Thorp, Stokes, Tuck, Murphy, Boyle, Clarke, Dawson? How many games do these guys have between them?

You must be kidding if you think the Hawks won't be in deep poop if they lose a couple of quality players for extended periods.

Same deal for the Bulldogs, Adelaide or any other side below Geelong.

Prismall
Varcoe

Simpson
Hogan
Davenport
D.Johnson
Lonergan
Tenace

Not as much depth as last year, however still very good back up.

To be fair they started the season without the likes of Hodge, Brown, Lewis and so on. But then again, they did play us:eek:

  • Brownlow medal winning midfielder
  • Brownlow medal winning midfielder
  • Brownlow medal runner-up midfielder
:D

I think the point of the OP is that if you lost Ablett, Bartel & Mooney you don't have 3 replacements of the same quality. It's a brilliant point considering if you did have an additional Ablett, Bartel & Mooney the logical place for them to be would be in th reserves... ;)

Surely this is the worst thread of the year.

Players outside their 22

Shannon Byrnes (premiership player)
Nathan Djerrkura (not a bad player at all)
Ryan Gamble (has shown his capabilities, good player)
David Johnson (70 games and never been a bad player)
Tom Lonergan (kids a gun forward, no over-rating)
Brent Prismall (the best depth player in the competition...would be a starting onballer at most other clubs, 44 touches in VFL wont get him a call up probably)
Scott Simpson
Harry Taylor (played this year and impressed in defence)
Kane Tenace (gun pacy midfielder who is a talent)
Travis Varcoe (amazingly good small forward)
Trent West (has played, was okay)
Shane Mumford (Bunyip big boy just like West)

Best 22 includes:
G Ablett, J Bartel, M Blake, P Chapman, J Corey, M Egan, C Enright, T Harley,
T Hawkins, J Hunt, S Johnson, J Kelly, C Ling, A Mackie, D Milburn, C Mooney,
B Ottens, M Rooke, M Scarlett, J Selwood, M Stokes, D Wojcinski

Which team in the league can replace their two best midfielders and best key forward, like for like?!

Exactly. No depth

Most those players would find a spot in the best 22 of most other teams, all would be playing in the bombers team at the moment. What do you mean no young players coming trough? Have you heard of a guy named Joel Selwood 19yr old player goes alright i think.
