The impression I'm getting is that the majority of the football public really wouldn't be too fussed if Geelong won the flag. I know that I wouldn't mind and would probably enjoy seeing them do it again.

On the other hand, I hope that Hawthorn get knocked over. They shit me. The media hype around them and their revolutionary 'cluster' is a load of hot ____. They are arrogant pricks on the field with a couple of exceptions and their supporters have climbed from the woodwork to turn Bay 13 into an orgy of kids soiling their pants with each Buddy thread.

But why are Geelong seeming to be everyone's second team at the moment? Is it the fact they are so good to watch? Is it that they are honest toilers who seem to understand the spirit of the game? Is it that they aren't a bunch o' ____en _____ like over at Hawthorn?

I'm curious to see if any other supporters feel the same way as I.

Adelaide are a pack of scum bags that ruin the spectacle of AFL footy.

They show what happens when you put 18 half back flankers on the field at the same time. If they won the flag it would be a football tragedy.

As for Geelong, well yeah, I don't mind if they win, but if they play the hawks in the finals we all know they won't get past us.

And yet aren't we more successful in the AFL era than your mob? Didn't we even roll you first game out?

And you've missed the point knob. Please reread the thread.

I made a comment on geelong, tosser.

And yes, you can be successful and still ruin the game of footy. Sydney are as good at that as Adelaide have ever been.

FTW = For The Win, I think.

I wouldn't mind seeing Geelong win the flag, obviously I'd love North to win it, but oh well.
If Franklin kicked 10 on Grand Final day I'd watch it because I like watching him play.

Although, if Hawthorn did win the Grand Final, there wouldn't be a Bay 13 anymore.
The sheer amount of threads started would blow it up.

I concur 100% sir.

Another reason why I'm hoping for a Doggies flag. A Cats or Hawks flag would make this place internally combust.

Sorry about that Leather Poisoning- I only read the first bit and then started dribbling on myself and hitting the keyboard with my fist. I'm sure yoú can understand :thumbsu:

It would be good to see the Dogs win it for exactly the reasons Spartan posted. They deserve their time in the sun and should go awfully close.

Hawthorn have about as much chance as Adelaide.

You would be surprised how many doggies come out of their kennel if they win, and Geelong won last year, I would hardly say Bay 13 internally combusted. I wouldnt mind seeing the dogs win the flag, but not this year, as it would mean Geelong havent.

You are right, Adelaide are the most boring team in the league to watch. Sydney was the second worst but they have now handed that honour to St Kilda. Whenever these three play each other I would rather watch a cabaret singer on a cruise ship or watch a slideshow on great soviet architecture.

Geelong are good to watch but so are the other premiership threats ie the Doggies and Hawthorn.

Port would be- except the jury is still out on whether what they are currently doing IS football.

Please stay on topic.

The only thing worst for BF than the Cats or Hawks winning the flag would be for Carlton to win the flag.

If Carlton won the flag I think there would be a mass exodus on BF till the start of the 2009 season.

But... Carlton? Win a flag?

I imagine I'll be dead and gone by then and my great grandkids can deal with it.

Footy needs heroes and villians in my opinion.

People enjoyed watching the Cats win a flag, for the same reason we enjoyed seeing Sydney win one, and why a great deal of people would like to see the Dogs win one. Being an also ran for such a long time makes people (a) despise or generally dislike your team a hell of a lot less, as you aren't seen as a threat, and (b) generally wish you well in terms of breaking a supposed "hoodoo" that your team may suffer from.

I don't think I am being unneccesserily rude to suggest that Geelong/Bulldogs are not in the heroes or villians category. That is the category that makes fans of other teams take notice and generally barrack, even if its because they "hate" your team, and wish whoever you're playing to win.

So for that reason, I think you're correct, Geelong are "Mr Niceguy" as you put it. All last season, they "kept a lid on it", and then they white-washed the opposition in the GF. This wasn't there fault, they could only play who they were drawn against, but if it wasn't for the Preliminary Final...a genuinely exciting final...then the whole of last season was relatively boring. Even this year, Geelong is again getting away with just going about their business and not causing a fuss. There is no hype in that direction. They have Ablett creating excitement, but little else.

As you say, the Hawks have hype. And for this reason, due largely to this board, they appear to fall into the villians category for many people. On the other hand, there's Buddy doing his thing, which like it or not, people love, and so he falls into the heroes category. This is akin to the teams that garnered attention in the years past. The Hawks of the 80's were feared and still had a bit of razzle to excite non-supporters, and the Lions were feared and had the razzle of Brown and Aker.

These are the teams who you hope to emulate, and who put a buzz into the competition. Not those who go about their business and try not to cause a fuss.

But the Hawks have no silverware for their efforts, whilst the others do...so the work is still ahead of them.

But Hawthorn have been an also-ran for quite sometime now. Shouldn't they also fit into the category with the Cats and Bulldogs? Why don't they?

And I like watching Geelong play- it doesn't mean much coming from an Adelaide supporter but I think they are quite entertaining to watch.

OK then back to the topic.

I don’t think that the majority of the football public really want Geelong to win but are resigned to the fact that if Geelong are firing on all cylinders come September then they will hard to stop. And it seems as they are only just warming up.

I hope that Hawthorn push them to the brink. They are good to watch. The only other real contenders are Sydney and the Doggies. Out of these four I would prefer the Doggies to win. I would like Sydney to drop out early to save us from a fate worst than Camp X-Ray.

I agree that the media hype around the 'cluster' is rubbish. However it’s not too different from Craig’s mid field zone employed in 05 and 06. Back then the Crows were arrogant pricks on the field with a couple of exceptions and their supporters climbed out of the woodwork after seven years of mediocrity. A Crows-Swans final would be tiresome and dreary.

Unfortunately I've been conditioned to enjoy that type of football so a Crows - Swans final wouldn't be too bad in my opinion. But I completely understand where other supporters are coming from and it isn't going to happen anyway.

This is correct. The Cluster hype is literally that...hype. I have never seen another teams game plan picked apart so ridiculously by the media. For four weeks we had media experts dissecting it for the public, when it is literally just a method to allow the Hawks to cover a developing backline.

With any media lauding an innovation in the game, out comes other supporters attacking it. And recently, the Hawks appear to be portrayed as arrogant for playing in that style. We're still doing the same thing, just covering a developing defence, and we're still up the top as far as conceeding opposition inside 50's, so it's working.

For what its worth, I'd like to see the Dogs win a flag, but clearly not if we're in the running also!

EDIT: Wow, I really messed up that quote!! Sorry, was supposed to just bold the "media hype around the cluster" bit!

Hey, I completely take your point, but I think most would agree there's a bit of difference with the 18 years of the Hawks (not proud), to the 44 years of the Cats, and worse. Add to the fact that we dominated for two decades prior to the end of our run.

But yeah, I'll conceed that point.
