Thought it's a worthwhile question.
We have the Carji tonight, which will most likely be won by either Gaz or Jimmy.
However, that's for the B&F.

My question is: who is the Most Valuable Player for Geelong?

While Gaz and Jimmy are great players, and probably our best, they're not necessarily the most important.

My pick has to be Ottens, closely followed by Mooney.
The fact that these guys were fit and played all season is exactly why we ended up on top. They are the two most irreplaceable guys on our list.

I'm glad we just signed Moons up to a 3 year deal :thumbsu:

Are there others that people think?
Scarlo, SJ? And why?

SJ and corey they do so much that goes with out a 2nd look but bartel is with out a doubt or No.1 MVP. can make anything out of nothing.

I get what you're saying, but I reckon we can win games without any of those three guys (SJ, Corey, Bartel).
I just can't see how we would win games without Ottens, and to a lesser extent Mooney.

mooney for me.

we can cover anyone in the backline. this was proven by the injury to the AA chb matthew egan. we won 3 finals without him.

we have plenty of midfield depth and we could definetly cover someone like gaz or jimmy. also we have 3 ruckman who deserve to play afl so having one of them missing wouldnt really be too much of a worry.

our forward line would struggle without mooney. besides him our other key forwards are young and not yet proven, and allthough we have many avenue to goal, he is our biggest.

mooney for mvp.

Would be between Mooney, Scarlett & Ottens.

bigdroppunt, the MVP award is more about recognising the player who basically is most important to our team...or perhaps the best way to think about it, the guy we can't afford to lose.

Without the above mentioned guys we would certainly struggle more than having Bartel or Ablett out.

The guys I've mentioned aren't replaceable, whereas Bartel & Ablett are to an extent, as we have backup midfielders (not of the same class by any stretch), but certainly guys that could fill the holes OK. The same can't be said about Mooney, Scarlett & Ottens.

In a sense, someone like Tom Harley also fits the MVP criteria, because of the impact of his leadership skills. The guy won't finish top 10 of the B&F, yet he has such a crucial role to play. We were crying out for leadership early in the year when he was injured (and consequently lost games we shouldn't have) and when he finally made his return we never looked back.

Steve Johnson like you mentioned could have a chance. Joel Corey would be highly unlikely (yet he should finish around the top 5 in the B&F)

But it's Mooney, Scarlett or Ottens for me, with Milburn as a smokey.

Anyway that's my two cents.

With many of the clubs chasing ruckmen - they're even interested in Blake apparantly, how lucky are we that Ottens actually wanted to come to GFC. He is so valuable now that he would command massive interest if he he were on the trade market. I reckon he and Cox would rival Judd for draft interest.

actually id have to say ling! always shuts down an important opponent!
Actually, that's a very good call. Can't believe I overlooked him.

There really is a few in the mix actually. I guess it depends how the coaches look at it.

In fact Bomber really has a soft spot for Ling, so it may well give him a leg up on some of the others.

Ablett & Mooney are tied. (lack of height depth puts Mooney on top)

2nd tier: Bartel, Ottens, Ling Scarlett
3rd: Harley, Chapman, Corey, Egan, Milburn, Johnson

Not 100% sure on it all, but that's roughly how it goes IMO.

It's hard to do, because we have so many guys who give so much to the team, we've got to look at who we have to cover them.
