If we were still using the old draft system of being able to pick players in your zone what would our team look like now with the players that are playing at the moment?
How would it compare to the team that we had on the park last year?

Although the bench wears a little thin, the actual starting 18 is very strong.

Maxwell (St. Jospeh's) - Scarlett (St. Jospeh's) - Bartram (Ocean Grove)
S. Baker (South Colac) - Maguire (South Warnambool) - Hodge (Colac)
Lewis (Warnambool) - Bartel (Bell Park) - Foley (Colac)
Buchanan (Colac) - Lucas (South Colac) - Higgins (Newtown)
N. Ablett (Modewarre) - Brown (South Warnambool) - Boyle (Colac)
Blake (South Barwon) - Ablett (Modewarre) - Ling (St. Jospeh's)

INT:
L. Harding (Bannockburn)
Prismall (Werribee)
Boak (Geelong U18)
Heffernan (Terang)

OTHERS:
Meesen (Modewarre)
Stanley (Ocean Grove)
Reynolds (St. Joseph's)

Remarkable side. Definitely something in the water around Geelong. :thumbsu:

No idea where you got Lucas as Sth Colac. He's from Camperdown, a good half an hour west of Colac.

And the two Terang-Mortlake boys, Vogels and Heffernan, have both been delisted now, but I rekon you're right in saying Heffernan would still make the list.

I think the forward line is a bit tall and you would need a back-up ruckmen in Meesen, but here's my attempt.

B: S.Baker - M.Scarlett - N.Maxwell
HB: T.Boyle - M.Maguire - C.Bartram
C: L.Hodge - C.Ling - J.Lewis
HF: A.Buchanan - S.Lucas - G.Ablett
F: N.Ablett - J.Brown - S.Higgins
R: M.Blake - J.Bartel - N.Foley
Int: J.Meesen - B.Prismall - T.Boak - T.Callan

New blokes coming through off the top of my head are Easton Wood, Chris Kangars, Guy O'Keefe, Scott Thompson and Patrick Dangerfield. Not sure who else.

Proves how much you people don't know about football...under the old zone system...anything west of Colac belonged to Fitzroy...
As I was reading this I was thinking exactly the same thing. I reckon Leon Harris (Mortlake - Fitzroy) was selected in the zone ruling. Prismall would've been regarded as Footscray selection as well due to playing for Werribee Ammos.

Still, there are many quality players who had restricted oppotunities due to the changing of the draft rule. I reckon there would've been more quality players come from Geelong if they maintained the zone rule...

Scott Lucas was Camperdown, not South.

Will Schofield, Simon Hogan, Daniel O'Keefe, Jack Steven and Lachlan Henderson were also from Falcons.

I thought it was who you played for and not where you're from and Moloney played Falcons didn't he?
Regardless, please forgive me for not knowing about the 'old zoning system' oh knowledgable one...

Yeah good point, I was just going on who played Falcons. I wasn't born when they had zones, but Harris definately played for Fitzroy. In saying that, Ken Hinkley from Camperdown went to Geelong. Ron Wearmouth from Terang went to Collingwood, but I don't know if that was before zones.

Falcons and U/18s didn't exist during the zoning times. You played juniors for your home club and that's it.

And zones were based on the league you played for. Say the Hampden League, which has Terang-Mortlake, Camperdown, Cobden, Koroit, Sth Warrnambool, Nth Warrnambool, Warrnambool and Port Fairy, is with the Falcons now, as are Geelong, Otway, Warrnambool District and other leagues. Back then though, all these leagues would send their plyers to different clubs.

Ken Hinkley's first club was Fitzroy...

Ron Wearmouth went to Collingwood because Fitzroy didn't want him.

There ya go didn't know that. So Hampden league was clearly Fitzroy.

So at a guess I'd say Geelong had GFL, GDFL and BFL.

I know Ovens and Murray were Carlton. I don't know the others.
