Geelong rorting the system

So without Hawkins who didn’t play in the 2007 flag and played 3 games after round 7 that year, the last of which was in round 16, and who kicked 12 of the 430 goals we kicked that season, we win 0 flags.
Having to pay a fair price for Father-Son player Tom Hawkins in 2006, you don't have the draft pick to get Joel Selwood.

Having to pay a fair price for Father-Son player Gary Ablett Jnr in 2001, its questionable if you have access to 2007 Brownlow Medalist Jimmy Bartel.

We won't get Kalani White. The afl will change the rules so we don't get him like they did with Mac Andrew. You're talking to the club that has had the least father/sons or nga picks in the entire afl minus maybe 1 other team.

also Kalani White isn't highly rated. Hawkins would've gone pick 1 and you got him at 41. And all of your success have been due to this outlawed system. You know it's true. :)
Says more about how shit your club has been for 60 years.

Maybe if you recruited better sperm you would’ve ended up with some.

lol, Hawkins was used as a demonstration. And thank you for going back 20 years to try and find a 'gotchya moment'. Why would you even mention 2007. In 2007 when you had Hall of Famers in Scarlett and Ablett. They were pretty handy players weren't they? I'm sure you coughed up a lot of draft capital for them. Mentioning 2007 and not mentioning the hall of famers is odd.

A typical Geelong fan. Can't even relate to regular clubs who have had 5% of gifts that Geelong have got. Why are you even defending it?

This would be the first flag of Geelong's that I'd respect.

Hawkins was used as a demonstration…. So we won a flag against 15 other sides courtesy of a demonstration. Ok.

“I didn’t realise Hawkins didn’t play in 2007 so here’s how I’m trying to explain it.”

Well done.

I don’t have to find a gotcha moment mate.

You support Melbourne. The team who, beyond the Suns and Giants have been gifted hand over fist more high draft picks than any other side in recent memory for no other reason than they have been purely, utterly, absolutely, dogshit. 5 per cent of the gifts we’ve gotten? And sadly I actually like Melbourne and most of their fans on here. I just find it funny that you have this pole up your arse where you’re prepared to throw this sort of mud given the inevitability of what’s going to come back.

YOUR CLUB DELIBERATELY LOST GAMES TO GET GIVEN HIGH DRAFT SELECTIONS BECAUSE IT HAD NO OTHER IDEAS TO TRY AND BE COMPETITIVE 😂😂😂😂

And they’ve converted it into one flag in the current millenium. And ironically they did it on the back of a freak ruckman that they drafted a mile down the pecking order.

Don’t try and give it the biggen about how another club’s recruitment stepladder works.

At least my club is the butt of jokes about how its SUCCESS might be ill gotten.

Better that than how it got caught cheating at losing.

No, well f**king done 😂😂

Having to pay what was a fair price for Gary Ablett in 2001 - he was expected to go around 20 at best. The one we might have missed out on that gets bumped back in the order would be Steve Johnson or James Kelly depending on whether someone wanted to take a chance on his knees. Lucky for us the pick right after Ablett’s protected selection at 40 was also ours anyway.

Yeah you can argue Selwood. Good as he was I’m not sure he explains away a team being that much better than everyone else and Tom Hawkins not playing at all.

We couldn't even get an entire day's worth of posting about Caro's story, we're already back to the glorious years of 2007-11. Out of respect for Caro and her spending the entire first half of the year and hitching her new show on this salary cap rort, can we please at least pretend to care about it for just a little longer? :sadv1:

I want to bathe for longer in Tomahawk’s glorious 2007 VFL flag win

Ahhh the ole double-double rort. Danking our way to a 119 point AFL flag having already father-son'ed our way to the VFL flag a week earlier. :handok:

You do realise this "enquiry" came after Melbourne (not Footscray) complained?

Your boys were just a bit too brazen with Clarrie....
But wasn't it Gary Pert who contacted several clubs to see if there was interest in Oliver??

As soon as I read "You support Melbourne. The team who..." it was such an obvious deflection. It's like you don't even have the ability to address your own team and evaluate your luck with the father/son and the success that the rule gave you without having to start talking about the other persons team'. You realise there is no relevance right.

Having to use caps lock to scream your message across. Clearly you know it's true. The reality is, if most of the teams had Geelong's father/sons they would've had the same or more success. 'but but Wells is so good'. Yeah, when you have Hawkins, Scarlett and Ablett and you get to focus on filling in around them, that's quite a luxury.

And you don't even know what the term gift means. Our success came from building through the draft. Our flag came from finishing low and picking Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw etc. We didn't get given then for free from the afl. Quite the opposite, we had to be down the bottom of the ladder to get them. So literally the opposite to a gift.

the good news is that Caro's 10 x 10k fines will be paid by the club thru the parking fines issued to opposition supporters that parked illegally in the 2024 season.

that slush fund is deep too after all the " we dont play in Geelong" clubs supporters finally made the trek down the highway.

GO Catters

So you didn’t get high draft picks for being garbage, then.

The afl and the system didn’t say ‘here, you are shit, have first pick of the next crop of youth, and keep being shit and keep doing it.’

That’s not a gift. That’s not being given anything.

100% snowball effect. Having to pay fair value for players also means you can't afford to take free swings on players with high upside knowing that . So yeah, basically the whole era can be dismissed.

exactly, you made my point. It's all luck, which is why it's a gift. Your success was built on good fortune, not on successfully building a team through good recruiting, list management, coaching, revolutionising the game etc. It was all Ablett and Hawkins and co.
Could you be more ignorant.

Steven Wells
We have the best coach in the game.

Jack Henry - rookie.
Brad Close - Rookie
Tom Stewart - Pick 40
Tom Atkins - Rookie
Ted Clohesy - NGA pick rookie.
Jed Bews FS pick in the 70's
Lawson Humpries - Pick 66
Tyson Stengle - DFA
Shannon Neale - pick 33
Mark Blicavs - Cat B rookie
Oisin Mullin - Cat B rookie
Ollie Dempsey - Rookie.
Gryan Miers - Pick 57

All getting regular games at AFL level... but sure... poor list management and not done thru good recruiting...

Congrats - This may actually be the wrongest post ive seen in 15 years.

you're not going to list all of the flops? be balanced, be better.

Ted Clohesy? LOL what has he done?! be the sub? haha..

Best coach? haha kidding yourself!
So coach of the year awards were given to
2024: Fagan
2023: Kinglsey
2022 McRae
2021 Goodwin
2020 Hinkley
2019 Fagan
2018 Buckley

No Scotty. But of course you say he is the best coach. so biased.

I could easily name just as many that Melbourne have nailed.

From your current team? You’ve got that many in your current team from those sources, do you? There are three picks in the side you fielded on the weekend that you drafted lower than 40 and three rookies - Judd McVee, Daniel Turner, Kade Chandler.

It really is amazing Melbourne haven’t been more successful over the journey with a) all the high picks they’ve had and b) this amazing strike rate they’ve got at nailing them.

You changed your post and edited it so say 'current team'. Which really makes no sense when talking about Wells vs other recruiting managers. Since the Wells era, Melbourne would've had just as many hits when it comes to rookies. Stef Martin, Nev Jetta, Tom Mcdonald, Jamar, Cam Bruce, Russel Robertson, A.Davey etc. every team has them

Has any journalist done an investigation into what work Chris Scott has done for Cotton On this year, in regard to his massive pay out from them?
