I mean, you did really improve that year, Bomber Thompson's job was on the line coming into 2007 - but yeah, the Cats really found something that made the difference. Like Jobe Watson did in his lone outstanding season.

So what you're saying does make sense. :handok:

We made finals the year prior.

Do you remember how much talent that side had? Also picked up a kid named J Selwood in 07.

It’s amazing how a team of young guys who went within a kick and a half of beating the threepeat lions in 2004 and a kick of beating the premiers on their home ground in 2005 in a semi final took the next step by 2007 as they got more experience under their belts. Almost as though they developed like most teams do.

Got away with and set an all-time Grand Final record in the process that may never be topped.:handok:

If the allegations are true, should the cats not be charged with draft tampering? The money they gave B Smith from Cotton on may have made him choose them over someone else!!

I think 2 years of no first and second round picks as punishment

I don’t care about the soft cap because Scott getting paid more or less doesn’t really corrupt anything and should be only a fine.

Do you know how many prelims we've played in the past 20 odd years.

I'm struggling to count them all.
We’ve lost one less prelim (plus we’ve won 3) under Chris Scott than Melbourne have made - win or lose - in the last 6 decades.

I think we are past the stage of being bitter about losing one to them.

you're not going to list all of the flops? be balanced, be better.

Ted Clohesy? LOL what has he done?! be the sub? haha..

Best coach? haha kidding yourself!
So coach of the year awards were given to
2024: Fagan
2023: Kinglsey
2022 McRae
2021 Goodwin
2020 Hinkley
2019 Fagan
2018 Buckley

No Scotty. But of course you say he is the best coach. so biased.
Coach of the year goes to coaches who beat expectations. Scotty won a flag his first year and is basically ineligible from there

As soon as I read "You support Melbourne. The team who..." it was such an obvious deflection. It's like you don't even have the ability to address your own team and evaluate your luck with the father/son and the success that the rule gave you without having to start talking about the other persons team'. You realise there is no relevance right.

Having to use caps lock to scream your message across. Clearly you know it's true. The reality is, if most of the teams had Geelong's father/sons they would've had the same or more success. 'but but Wells is so good'. Yeah, when you have Hawkins, Scarlett and Ablett and you get to focus on filling in around them, that's quite a luxury.

And you don't even know what the term gift means. Our success came from building through the draft. Our flag came from finishing low and picking Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw etc. We didn't get given then for free from the afl. Quite the opposite, we had to be down the bottom of the ladder to get them. So literally the opposite to a gift.
Your sole, Perth Cup flag in your lifetime came after years and years of being a truly embarrassing organisation - capped off with tanking for draft picks. As soon as finals were played on the G again that team still went to water.

In the EPL the Demons would currently be fighting it out for promotion from the National League. In that sense I don't blame you crying about successful clubs you've had to see take the glory. But make no mistake, it is loser mentality sooking.

No you didn't make finals mate, that's why Bomber was under the pump, and had the draft pick to select J.Selwood for that matter...

...and yes, I am quite familiar with the era in question. 😄

He was under the pump. That’s correct. It doesn’t change what happened before that year though: do you know why he was under the pump?

Because he had a good, developing squad that went to a prelim in 04 and pushed one of the all time great sides all the way, then went to the SCG in 05 and led all night against the eventual premiers in a semi before Nick Davis happened.

We started 06 with back to back demolitions of the Lions and Roos and though I stand to be corrected, I have a feeling we were early favourites for the flag.

We promptly lost 7 of our next 8 culminating in that capitulation to your mob where we coughed up a 50 point lead.

We recovered to finish 10-11-1 and came home with a wet sail but it did nothing more than just highlight what a wasted year it was. Especially with 4 wins and a draw over top 8 teams and another 3 losses against them decided by less than a kick.

When we went 2-3 to start the next year, Thompson’s job was well and truly in the firing line.

So yeah it’s not like we suddenly got to 2007 and ‘oh, look, here’s Geelong having been at the bottom of the ladder for 5 years doing nothing and now they’re good.’ We had been good or thereabouts for 3 seasons.

Year before, and year before that.

My point being we didn't just come out in 07 with a brand new side.

It absolutely does though.

Coach wages are included in the soft cap for non-player payments, so if he's being paid by other means then the club can afford other coaching, support or ancillary staff > think strength & conditioning, or the 'mindfulness coach' or whatever the heck Emma was at Richmond during the dynasty era.

If true then should be a big fine and loss of soft cap space. There have been rumours for so long about this and can honestly say that the cats seems to find the cap space for players and coaches that other clubs can’t. Time for the afl to make an example to not let this shit happen again. Unfortunately we know how this will play out, small fine and suspended sentence.

If it were my club Adelaide, we’d get happened with everything. The afl is the most corrupted sport organisation in the world because they don’t answer to anyone
