Is the justice in the room with us?

When Joe444 started this thread Geelong’s rorts were humming along unchecked. 48 hours after the thread was published it all started to unravel. Progress is being made, however slow.

Sounds more like they finished investigating to me, but I'm only working with publicly available information, not interpretations of rumours that i want to be true so there may be something I'm missing

This is just beginning

He was under the pump. That’s correct. It doesn’t change what happened before that year though: do you know why he was under the pump?

Because he had a good, developing squad that went to a prelim in 04 and pushed one of the all time great sides all the way, then went to the SCG in 05 and led all night against the eventual premiers in a semi before Nick Davis happened.

We started 06 with back to back demolitions of the Lions and Roos and though I stand to be corrected, I have a feeling we were early favourites for the flag.

We promptly lost 7 of our next 8 culminating in that capitulation to your mob where we coughed up a 50 point lead.

We recovered to finish 10-11-1 and came home with a wet sail but it did nothing more than just highlight what a wasted year it was. Especially with 4 wins and a draw over top 8 teams and another 3 losses against them decided by less than a kick.

When we went 2-3 to start the next year, Thompson’s job was well and truly in the firing line.

So yeah it’s not like we suddenly got to 2007 and ‘oh, look, here’s Geelong having been at the bottom of the ladder for 5 years doing nothing and now they’re good.’ We had been good or thereabouts for 3 seasons.
Year before, and year before that.

My point being we didn't just come out in 07 with a brand new side.

Yes yes lads, I know, it was a bit of tongue in cheek banter, much like this 'rorting' has brought about from your supporters.

I don't think Geelong danked the 07 flag and they definitely were a team capable of shooting up the ladder if they got things to click.

I do however think the AFL had/has ABSOLUTELY no appetite to turn over a few rocks and lift a few lids on Dank and Robinson's time at the Cats - for fear of finding something they would need to dig deeper into and risking dragging the AFL name into the muck again, and those flags with it. Much more at stake than knocking a has been club like Essendon down a few notches. So I don't think we'll ever get true clarity there and it will remain a minor footnote in history. 🙂

is it a wasted year if you don't win the flag? we got some development into good young kids. so it's not a wasted year.

Yes, not making finals when you have an ageing list is a waste.
Viney, May, Gawn, not sure they have much more left in them. Furthermore, losing Pickett to Fremantle would be a short-term disaster.

Making finals and losing round 1 doesn't achieve anything. You guys have wasted the last 2 years using that metric.

And lol, people said that about Gawn last year, and the year before that. He is still currently the best ruck in the league by a fair margin. He has many years left. People doubted him this year and he shut all of those people up.

At least you’ve posted something most of us agree on
lol. I think the deflections onto Melbournes list shows that deep down you admit that your success has been due mostly to the f/s gifts. I mean, it's sort of undeniable. But way too much time talking about Geelong for me or one day. You're 5th on the ladder behind Adelaide and Gold Coast. Guys like Atkins, Miers, Z.Guthrie, Mullen, Mannagh etc. it's got to be one of the least intimidating top 8 teams in the league. I never fear playing Geelong.

Yeah most of our success has been due to four guys. You’re right.

As such the four best players of the modern era are in no particular order Ablett, Scarlett, Hawkins. and Nathan Ablett.

Mighty effort from that quartet.

Why would YOU fear playing Geelong? You don’t have to lift a finger. You’re a bloke on the internet trying to grow a bigger piece because some parents of players had kids once upon a time and that somehow erases scores from the record books.
Your 6-19 record against us over the last 25 meetings does strike fear into Cats fans about the outcome of games with the Demons though that’s for sure.

you made the most of your lengthy stay at the top of the pile with 3 wins in one year at least, leaving your record at 3-19 the rest of the time.

So yeah we’ve certainly carried a big burden with us during our brief ‘up’ period of 19 seasons about running into the blue and red

No matter what state the Cats list has been in, they've contended most seasons since 2004. That's what consistent excellence looks like. Melbourne have won finals in maybe 3 seasons in that entire time frame despite having access to elite young talent/better picks than Geelong almost every year (due to having so many failed seasons).

I actually pity Melbourne supporters, not due to perceived disadvantages but just because of how terribly run that club has been for so long.

how many of those seasons have you competed without a hall of fame calibre father-son?

The Cats had a couple of lucky sperm. Melbourne had better draft picks through basically the entirety of the AFL era (35 years and counting). 4 flags to 1, 9 grand finals to 1 in that time.

That is comparing excellence to a level below mediocrity.
