So....you've established a war chest by retiring old players.....hmmm now there's food for thought
Pies are gonna have a war chest too then.

Well it’s what happens when you have good players still playing well at an older age or still on a good wage: we had Johnson, Chapman, Bartel and others in the post-flag era that were on decent salaries that we either jettisoned or pushed, to the disappointment of a lot of people, into retirement. But it helped us keep a lot of players, sign Dangerfield which was the most important thing we did between 2011 and now, really. And every year there was someone else leaving. Starting with Mooney, then Ling, Ottens, Scarlett, Milburn, Johnson, Chapman, then Bartel, then Mackie and Enright, then Taylor and Henderson (the latter was no star but handy enough), Menegola etc etc.

Whatever people think, it’s been staggered well to keep pumping money back into the players we need to upgrade, and periodically pick up someone that will cost extra.

And you blokes will have a lot of chances to do it as well.

If as you say...signing Patrick was "sign Dangerfield which was the most important thing we did between 2011 and now, really"....then may I remind people that GFC did absolutely NOTHING to get Paddy home...he did it all himself and was only ever going to be in Geelong colours in 2016. He negotiated the deal first with Adelaide and then with Geelong, he had his house being built while he was still playing for the Crows! So GFC always get heaps of praise for bringing him home but in fact they only really had to clean out a locker!

As for us blokes having a lot of chances to do it as well.....well funny you should say that....we already have!

Oh...oh no. Geelong did nothing to get Dangerfield home?! This changes everything. God damn frauds, with their combination of cheating and impossibly good luck. Everything simply falls into their laps. And people dare suggest they are well run...

Sorry, this is just the vibe your first paragraph gives me.

Um, we have to pay him, you realise. He doesn’t pay his own player registration. I couldn’t care less what we had to, or didn’t have to do, to get him. We had to get him and pay him and keep him, and the entire time he’s been at our club he’s been at worst our second highest paid player, until probably now.

well run/ completely corrupt ...they are the same thing in the most corrupt sporting organisation in the world. Yes more corrupt than FIFA and the Olympics.

Lol, mate it’s pointless. They’ll never accept that Geelong are simply the best run sporting team in the country.

It’s way easier for these people to believe it’s all a scam. “Geelong MUST be cheating”. Makes them feel a little less sad about their own teams. They will never provide evidence, because there is none.
Penrith Panthers are the best run professional sporting club in the country, while Geelong are on par with Melbourne Storm as both Geelong and Melbourne have an amazing win percentage.

The number one key metric is premierships, and Penrith have won more premierships than Geelong in the modern era.

Dunno what the truth vibe makes you feel mate, but its the truth. We all knew he was coming home 6 months before the news came out.

And you realise that he would have been happy to accept half of what Adelaide was gonna pay him just so he could get back to the coast.....and that he himself assured the AFC that he would get them the "fairest compensation that he could from GFC"... but he wasn't ever considering their offers because he had made up his mind to come home. So you paid him bargain basement rates for the quality of player you were being GIVEN. Anybody that knows the lad realises that once Patty has made up his mind about something, then thats what he's gonna do.

Yeah i doubt that.
I’m not going to trawl your posting history but im guessing you don’t raise flags and argue when people attack Dangerfield’s famed ego.

So im gonna just take a wild guess and suggest that as the then probably 3rd, 4th best player in the game, and later on the best player in the game, he wasn’t playing for half his value. That’s just a suspicion.

‘Look I wanted to come home to give me half my worth. Well call it square.’

Seriously, where would Richmond rank among Geelong fans' "rivals" in the last few years?

Hawthorn - the old enemy
Collingwood - long-standing record of competitive games and close finals
Doggies - making a big recent run with all the Bailey Smith stuff
Brisbane/Sydney/GWS - all been contenders/rivals around the same spot in recent years, some good games against them
Saints/Carlton- annoyingly have a good recent record against us.

Richmond after that, I guess? And even then mostly for "I hope we belt them to see the nuffies melt" laughs....
The biggest Geelong/Richmond crowd for a H&A game was just slightly over 70K all the way back in 1980 and there's only been three other games to ever draw 60K. We've had 22 crowds of over 60K against the Hawks since the two clubs had our first H&A game first at the MCG in 2008, half of those are bigger than the biggest ever Geelong/Richmond crowd and four of them over 80K. There's also been seven Cats vs Pies games to draw over 80K since 2007. I mean, even Geelong vs Melbourne once had a crowd of 81K in the 1960s and another of 75K in 2000.

Geelong vs Richmond has never been a big drawing rivalry for the vast majority of either team's fanbase. It's just that this site has a very small but extremely vocal and tedious contingent of Richmond posters who are obsessed with Geelong. It also looks like there's lots of them because they keep getting banned (sometimes even twice in one day) and come back with new accounts every other week.

Fun fact: Despite there being 10 victorian teams, Geelong is the only one with a home ground

Pity we can’t play at our home ground in finals. You know the most important games.
I would be quite happy to share our ground with a number of other teams, play at GMHBA 15 times a year, have Collingwood upgrade and play out of VIC Park 9 times a year. (whilst never have to play there ourselves)

AND when it comes to finals play teams like Collingwood and Richmond in Geelong whilst finishing lower than them on the ladder.
Now that would be great.

Premierships involve a lot of luck. The better measure of how good a team is winning percentage. Or even simply percentage. But there is no theater in that so we mistakenly regard premierships instead.

Fun fact: geelong is the only team that has to play home games outside its home city that is also in its oppositions home city. And this often includes finals when geelong is the home ranked side.

Which is fair enough. You can’t have a stadium which holds like 15,000 people hosting finals.

Good. Kardinia park holds nearly 40 thousand. Gws stadium has had home finals with less then 20 thousand even though they play in the same city as the scg.

And you just know that gold coast will get home finals at metricon with less than 20 thousand despite the gabba only being an hours drive away.
