Geelong rorting the system

Do we add Garry Lyon's best player of the year award on Fox Footy to the list of rorts?

With Rowell leading on 11 votes, the last game for the Cats scored Danger 3 votes, propelling him to 1st place by 1 vote.
Not sure how the voting system worked, but a system that gets Rowell a total of 11 votes over 25 games, but can award 3 votes for best on seems odd to say the least. Gerard also decided late in the season that the voting would continue through to finals (excl GF).

Danger's prize? A nice, shiny new Ford Mustang...

Now, I'm not saying that Danger's game against the Hawks wasn't worthy of 3 votes, although I would have to understand the voting system to truly comment on that, but it does seem odd that a player, who isn't even the best player on his team, could somehow be voted the best player in the league and the prize just happens to be from his team's long time major sponsor...

The guy who just came 10th(?) in his club's B&F apparently had a better year than the guy who won the Brownlow and won his own B&F.
Danger had his lowest disposal average since his 2nd year in the league (2009).
He didn't rank in the top 50 in just about every major category.

That rug at AFL House is getting awfully lumpy.
next you'll be going after golden fist winners, I'm assuming you're being facetious but if you're not.. why would Geelong need rorts to pay 35 year old Dangerfield of all people? Do you really think he's getting offers elsewhere?

What does it have to do with Danger getting offers? It's effectively a bonus outside of the salary cap.

How do you explain any rational person coming up with Danger as the best player in the comp this year? It's beyond the realms of possibility. Do you think he was even remotely close to best in the league? Top 10 even?
Nobody could mount a legit case while keeping a straight face.

oh you were being serious lmao :drunk:

Half serious.
Surely even the most die-hard Cats fan can admit that Danger being named best player by anyone this year is extremely odd at best. It's so far out of the realm of reality that it simply raises eyebrows and questions. How else do you explain it?
Can you mount a valid argument that it was deserved?

It wasn’t a ‘best player’ award. Lyon himself never claimed it was. He had only 6 votes he could give across an entire round of 9 games of football each week. So in theory a player could be the fourth best player in the entire competition 23 rounds of the season and not get a single vote, and one player could have 22 terrible games, pop up with one eye catching game, and beat him.

Using your logic, Lyon has said this second player has had a better season than the fourth-best player across the entire competition 😂😂😂😂

Dangerfield won the award because 4(?) times he got the 3 votes for the round and maybe got 2 in another game. That’s it. That was it. And it was probably correct. He didn’t have much impact across the rest of the season. Rowell did, he was excellent most weeks but he didn’t get the votes under the classification that he needed to. How does this upset you so much?

The poster did admit to not following how the voting worked, yet went on the attack anyway 😝

One day maybe clubs will hate our rorts as much as Geelong's.

Only if you have a sustained period of success- say 20 years of being right in the mix. None of this 5 good years rubbish.

Oh dear the Cats are becoming pathetic. They’re the most looked after club in the league with this stuff. They’re cracking the sads at being held accountable. This reeks of woe is me.

C'mon they've never ever had to be accountable before....it must feel shocking for them;):rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Nothing to do with Tyson overdosing.

Nothing to do with their coach getting caught getting paid “outside of the system”.

Nothing to do with Smith abusing a female reporter.

Nothing to do with Scott making a female reporter cry.

Nothing to do with…

Suuure McCabe…everyone’s picking on your club. Cry me a tear.

Or Atkins almost killing someone and pleading guilty to dangerous driving....

Or players getting off without penalty during mad-Monday despite GWS players copping suspensions at a private function, and Greene not doing anything himself but getting fined because 'he didn't show enough leadership'.

But the Cats claim they are being unfairly targeted. FMD. Hilarious.

I didn’t say his drink was spiked. I don’t know what transpired.
Apparently you know exactly what happened. It’s a “fact”, right? 😊

The bloke was unresponsive and taken to hospital in an ambulance. Whatever it was...it was serious. And yet glossed over.

As everyone says though...tremendous culture!

I listed a number of other issues that played out this year. And yet by the end of the year, I have to hear those in the media continuously go on about "culture". You have a very good coach and list and great administration. And an excellent media PR unit.
