Geelong rorting the system

Well, they've put the bloke who was in charge of Geelong's books to audit his own work.

Wouldn't be a stretch to get someone from a Geelong sponsor to do an 'independent' audit now, would it?

Cotton On would likely be done by one of the big 4.

As an accountant myself I would not trust a thing the big 4 do.

Come on man.

Smith might love the powder and cut the shit out of his arms, and Stengle have some substance abuse issues alongside him, but let’s not pretend like Cousins wasn’t a walking talking headline of bad behavior out in the public eye in WA, above and beyond pretty much every other player who had mucked up in the comp.

Geelong back themselves in to keep these players on track and out of the papers(it helps bring down the highway, no doubt).

West Coast’s hand was forced with Cousins, otherwise they’d have kept him on the books too because all clubs accept that the demographic of their players means they will almost all dabble or find trouble at some point.

As I posted. Some clubs dont have an issue recruiting players with drug convictions / history. History shows Geelong is one of those clubs.

The Eagles have had a strict policy ever sinse they sacked Cousins plus multiple others and the AFL and media went to town on them.

Have those standards been imposed on any other club.......ever?

The Rat Pack were partying pretty hard in that era in Melbourne.

As for your last statement, that is now incorrect. Some clubs look the other way or "support" their players, even actively chase players with poor history. West Coast does not because of how hard the AFL and media went last time.

I'm not saying he's suitable for such a role, I would have him excused from the room.

But if you check the fine print he's not actually doing the audit, people in his department are, so likely he is in fact excused from the room.

It's really noise anyway though. The audit won't show anything because it's an audit of Geelong. If you want to know what 3rd party payments are going to players you need to audit 3rd parties, which notably, is not happening.

That doesn't make opposition fans foam at the mouth though so it's no fun to repeat.
Surely traces would exist at Geelong? Players income declarations minus Geelong records = 3rd party payments?

Though I'm sure GFC used code words on their spreadsheets..
Forris Minancial
Otton Con
etc.

If they exist then consider that the whole point of them would be to keep them off the books, they just would not be in the spreadsheets to begin with.

Anything found by the auditors would be things already declared, things not declared would not be found. If there's an issue with something already declared then who is at fault?

Honestly seems highly unlikely the afl would have thought this would uncover anything so either they're just doing it to appease bevo or they're honestly just doing their usual routine audits. Either way I don't think it would matter who was in charge, you're basically looking for snow in Saudi Arabia. Whether or not snow exists, you're looking in the wrong place.

You love throwing the word conviction around.

Which players have a drug conviction?

Not even Ben Cousins during his playing career but it did remind me of this episode of footy history. I love a good malicious compliance story

Ohhhh that reminds me.

Cousins was protected in a big way during his drug-fuelled playing days. The cops in Vic weren't allowed to touch him. They knew he was bringing stuff back over the border to WA where his family were selling it. Totally forgot about that.

The AFL reach goes far and wide.

I have no doubt that the Geelong football clubs official books are absolutely fine with no errors. An Audit will find nothing untoward.

It's the outside the club 3rd party deals and under the table handshakes that is the issue and that most fans of other teams are questioning.

The loan's that return 30% interest every 12 months, the major sponsors finding jobs for players their partners or family, the property/ farms the players seemingly acquire for a packet of chips.

The problem is it's very hard for the AFL to prove it, without outright accusing players and the club and every single club is doing exactly the same thing in some capacity it's just Geelong are doing it better and fans think it's the reason they have been seemingly "up" for the last 20 years without bottoming out.

Also success is one of the best tools to poach players from other clubs, it's how dynasties are built. Professional athletes want to win, you want to know why all these young up and coming stars choose Geelong over Stkilda. It starts with the fact that Geelong win.... Often and Stkilda lose.... Often. The success gets them sniffing and then the 3rd party guarantees get them sold on a move.

What properties do players acquire for chips? Bazlenka's house cost 4mil via a private sale. If you're talking about pubs that happens everwhere, it seems to be a common purchase between players for some reason.

Are other club major sponsors finding jobs for partners/relatives?

You're also dismissing our draft work over the past few decades which has been exceptional. We have also been blessed with some father sons who have worked out swimmingly. It's not our fault other clubs can't read a draft or develop their draftees like we have.

As if Geelong is the only one doing this while everyone else sits by being nice little rules followers

If Cats were to ever go down you better believe they'll be dragging all other 17 clubs with them lol

There is absolutely no way one club is doing it while all others are squeaky clean. 3rd Party shit happens all the time, how you can possible police it all?

You can't.

Little Geelong overpowering the rich Melbourne and interstate clubs with its sponsors and third-party deals should really be celebrated as a win for the little guys. It's a modern day David and Goliath - Geelong overcoming insurmountable odds through sheer courage and resourcefulness.

The tables have been turned, but rather than rising up to meet the challenge our competitors squeal and moan to their AFL overlords. Cowards!

You didn't forget about that, you just made it up.

Does any other club have a sponsorship that's run for 100 years?

If some of these opposition posters actually stopped and considered how ludicrous their accusations are that Geelong FC and only Geelong FC might be engaging in dodgy TP player deals. Until I see evidence of anything untoward occurring at Geelong FC and not elsewhere, then those posters can STFU. And that includes Richmond Flats. Instead of saying, "I suggest start your research (with Villawood)" how about providing compelling evidence instead of muckraking.
