Geelong rorting the system

I'm not saying he's suitable for such a role, I would have him excused from the room.

But if you check the fine print he's not actually doing the audit, people in his department are, so likely he is in fact excused from the room.

It's really noise anyway though. The audit won't show anything because it's an audit of Geelong. If you want to know what 3rd party payments are going to players you need to audit 3rd parties, which notably, is not happening.

That doesn't make opposition fans foam at the mouth though so it's no fun to repeat.

Huh? I’d imagine the AFL would not have jurisdiction to analyse Cotton On’s finances - what, do they call the CFO of Cotton On and ask them to email through their books?

I’d assume the audit is a detailed analysis of all payments received by all players and coaches from the club, sponsors, 3rd parties etc….

But I’ve not seen the scope of the audit so I’m guessing…

Like I said, it's 'perception of bias' that has/will do for GFC's reputation in each case.

You don't have to manage it, but if you don't, you get the dodgy brothers label

And you can say you don't care about that, and 4 walls, etc. and that's fine
Ackshually, Stephen Hocking was the AFL GM from 2017 until the end of 2021. In that time Richmond won 3 premierships to Geelong's 0. The perception of bias is that Hocking changed the rules (3rd man up) to stop Geelong and allow Richmond to finally see some success. Richmond are confirmed cheats, its a fact

exactly, you don't need to care

but, a reputation for dodginess is insidious

I would be wanting a non-GFC person to do the audit, if I was GFC, put it that way
The Geelong guy isn't actually doing the work though, people who work for him are. Easy enough to declare a conflict and just be outside the room when the audit is being worked on.

That's basically what I'm saying. The only things they'll be auditing are things Geelong's already declared. What secret deals do people think are going to be uncovered here?

'people who work for him' so the power dynamic is there

it's like Elon Musk saying he will leave the room when DOGE addresses Tesla-related government agendas

noone finds that convincing

why risk it with COI, just get someone with no connection to GFC to run the audit

it's so simple. anyway.

Go hawks vs carlton!

Yeah I think two things, first I don't think anyone at the afl is taking it particularly seriously, and secondly, it's not ideal for the leader to have a stated conflict of interest but not unprecedented.

If the afl thought there was anything to find they might take it seriously but if you're looking for impropriety then if it is there you're looking at the wrong books anyway

To swindle or dupe.
Report a false injury.
I might be wrong but if I'm correct ( no big secret) apology accepted.
