Even injuries will not stop this team from potentially winning every game this year as our depth is 1st rate. We have the likes of Davenport, Hunt, Tenace, West, Lonergan, Gamble, Byrnes, Djerkurra, D.Johnson, Prismall and Taylor breathing down their necks. I personally cant see anyone getting near us this year even with a bad injury run. What do u think?

Take it easy dude. There's no doubt that's a great lineup but injuries to key players will quickly change everything. While I do hope you are right I'd be happy with the same number of wins as 2007 and a top 2 spot.

I merely stated that even with injuries geelong could potentially win every game next year. Like you though i would definately be happy with 15 or 16 wins and a top 2 finish. Im moving back to geelong from qld in a couple of weeks and i am looking forward to going to the football again. ive only been to 4 games in 4 years.

Not bad. Personally I'd have to have Hunt in our best 22, he more than proved himself in the finals. Hunt in for Varcoe and I reckon it's about right - assuming everyone is fit of course.

It is tough actually to think of the line up. Thank goodness the Coaches have more to go on than just last years form. They have reports on current fitness and their own observations of the lads on the training track. So please go easy on my selection cos we have so many potentially good players at this stage I am not sure who to leave out and who to put in except of course Hawkins for Nathan, and the obvious inclusions of course like Otto, Bartel, Gaz etc

I like Chappy down with Hawkins to give the kid an experienced head to listen too.

I think people tend to underestimate enrights worth in the back half. He is ever consistent with his run and defensive work, and is probably not far away from being a star on this team. I think maybe Enright and Hunt should swap. I know you could have many combinations for a Geelong team but I added Varcoe for more pace and unpredictability. On the basis of team structure it was either 2 of Rooke, wojcinski and Hunt. Rooke is tougher and more versitile and Wojcinski has the pace and carry. Even though i rate Hunt as a footballer i had to leave him out. But as i said you can pick several teams and still come up with a pretty formidable outfit.

You may be a little disapointed on the Geelong board with some of the views on Shannon mate. more often than not most want him out of the side. But I think all will have to agree he earned his spot in the finals and will be in the mix for selection this season with all the others. Just ask Eliiiiza, she'll tell you.

I'm still hoping and praying for Tenace to come good. If he impresses pre-season, give him a go round 1. Still young, we should remember that he's now reaching the age that Mackie suddenly learned how to play the game (he's as old this year as Mackie was last). He can do the same. The last two years he's been my tip as the big improver in the side, so hopefully he won't prove me wrong again.

Hi all, my first post. I have loved being a guest for the past 6 months or so and following the breaking news, thoughts, tactics, strategies, suggestions and discussions that frequently appear on this board. While I agree that it is hard to pick a team, I believe that with so many potential top-line players form and fitness will be everything this year. No matter how much I love the Cats (oh, and I do so love the club) I just can't see any team winning all 22 games + finals this year. But we can always hope! Not sure I will post often but I love to read all your views.

I personally don't think Tenace will ever learn to kick properly but I'd like to see him do so. Hunt deserves a spot when he is in form in my opinion. I have long thought little Shannon is too fast for his own football brain.

Thanks for letting me join in!

I agree 100%. He's running full-tilt with the ball and dosen't always give himself time to anticipate what happens next. You can almost see that 'what do I do next?' moment dawn on him - it's something that might improve over time, though some people just don't have that rapid decision-making ability that turns an average player into something special.

He can be a great little tackler though, which is a plus for him. Not as defencively-aggressive as Varcoe I'm afraid, who will emerge more in '08 after a summer of weight-training and snatch Byrnsey's spot.

My team would look like this:

B: Harley Scarlett Wojcinski
HB: Milburn Egan Mackie
C: Enright Bartel Corey
HF: Chapman Mooney Kelly
F: S.Johnson Hawkins Stokes
Foll: Ottens Ling G.Ablett
Int: Blake Hunt Rooke Selwood

Which would leave our VFL side, at full strength, looking like this:

B: Bedford Lonergan D.Johnson
HB: Donohue Kangars Hogan
C: Byrnes Byrne Tenace
HF: Davenport S.Simpson Gamble
F: Djerrkura Taylor Varcoe
Foll: West Prismall Moles
Int: McKenna Laidler D.Simpson Cheep

Couldn't fit Mumford in on the bench otherwise it'd be too top heavy, so put Jay Cheep in there instead.

]I think it is a credit to the quality of geelongs on ball bigade when Corey(who i rate as on a par with bartel for ball winning ability and hardness at the contest) cannot get into anyones starting ruck division, including mine. It just goes to show where u fit everybody into the structure, and how difficult it is to select a team.

I think it's also a credit to the depth of our midfield that a bloke like Prismall can't crack it for a regular spot in the seniors, but would probably walk into the senior side in about 8 or 10 other sides.

I really wanna see Prismall get lots of games, coz i reckon he's got all the right stuff.
good skills, fast, good brains and he has the desperation that just sets others on their way. If i could take anyone out to fit him in it would prolly have to be Kelly.
I just dont think he does enough at times.
what do u think?

Nah not now. I thought Kelly's finals series was as good as he's ever played - especially the Qualifying and Grand Finals. He stepped up when he had to. I'd be really loathe to drop him now.

Prismall is like Tenace, Djerrkura, Varcoe and David Johnson. I've got absolutely no doubt that he's good enough to get a game. But with everyone fit, I can't anyone getting dropped to make way - including Byrnes.
