“Scott added:
- Jack Steven's improving fitness levels would likely allow him to back-up off a five-day break and tackle the Dogs.
- Harry Taylor's return to the side would likely be the only significant change to his side's structure on Friday night.
- Darcy Fort, Josh Jenkins and Quinton Narkle, who has recently overcome a heavy bout of food poisoning, would play in a scratch match on Saturday.
- Time was running out for Nakia Cockatoo to play AFL this season with just three matches remaining after Friday night. "It is getting to the point where this is an important bit of match practice for him on Saturday," Scott said.
- The probable introduction of a pre-finals bye would have a "neutral" impact on his team's quest for a premiership.“
Even if it has the potential to put the Cats into 2 weeks hotel quarantine in the West and Perth finals. It's not the bye so much but what it opens up.

So it appears that the only prospects of coming into the team now after little or no senior footy this year (injury aside) are Jenkins, Cockatoo and Narkle. And I would have thought their one chance now is to be selected for the Bombers game, and hope to build from there.

Apart from that, surely only the skipper and Gaz could come back after that game without having any continuity of senior footy in the lead-up.

Big weekend coming up for all involved, then, with those on the outer trying to press their claims and those in the senior team trying to underline their worth.

And, despite all the angst about who might be included or otherwise, this is another potentially serious change from previous finals campaigns. Pressure for spots is at a significantly higher level than I can remember in a long time.

I always thought a "joe the goose" goal was one that was just handed to you on a plate like Tommy H gave Jordan Clark.

After watching Jenkins in action, if l were the opposition coach, l'd be screaming at the defense for letting that happen.

I mean he's just turned them inside out, exsposing their lack of awareness and especially pace, that's awesome from a 200cm guy.
"Love those Joe the gooses, guess who's the goose?
Joe the Goose is the player running into an open goal with no one on them. Usually from a kick or handball over the last defender who has committed to running at the player who makes the assist.

I hate Joe the Goose goals. But only because 1. we used to be on the receiving end of them and 2. they would happen in matches where we might struggle to score a goal after 8 to 10 mins of play, only for someone not to follow their man pushing forward to give them an easy reply goal.

But if it was our team doing it, I would be very happy. Imagine a tight match against the Tiggies or Eagles and they score a hard worked goal, especially with how our defense plays, and then next goal comes from Jenkins on his own strolling into goals. Made me ******* grumpy watching us cop those. About time we handed some out.

When Tom Browne goes early with a story

When others wait until after the press conference to release info

Sounds like Taylor Tuohy are the ins for a rested key defender and atkins/Close maybe.

Last chance for sav if Jenkins plays well on Saturday.

I like giving Joel a break. He hasn’t been the same since he came back into the team. Was averaging 21 possessions a game pre-hamstring and only 14 since returning. Clearly he has been hampered by the knee.

Get him fresh to have a big last six weeks.

The way Jenkins goes about it is pro active, he's running his defender ragged.
He and Eddie Betts used to get behind defenders all the time, they made an art of "joe the goose"

No cockatoo? A bit pxxx weak with that one if he doesn’t play.

Yeah Guthrie and menongola have gone passed him. It’s not the be all and end all if he isn’t playing.

He is a finals specialist

I thought Dahlhaus got involved on the weekend. Often running & defending up the ground To add to our shape around the stoppages . I’d prefer an experienced Dahlhaus as a premiership player to player finals over Close or Fogarty at the minute.
Just watch how often he's last man to get up from the bottom of the F50 scrum.
I reckon Dahl is key in those sorts of matches where the pressure is on. When he gets the pill there are few better at shooting out a lightning handpass and applies plenty of pressure too. He doesn't stand out in our team as a match winner as he did at times for the Dogs, but is very handy to have in the side.

I think that big game experience will get him a gig at the pointy end this year.
Does a lot of unheralded stuff but I agree, as a forward his output has been disappointing.
We have two smalls who the opposition know can't kick over a jam tin.
Miers we know can find the sticks.
I suspect that beyond this season others will take Dals place.
Um atkins would be a third. and if simspon plays forward that makes 4.

2 changes

IN: Zach Tuohy, Harry Taylor

OUT: Jordan Clark (omitted), Esava Ratugolea (omitted)
Both Ratugolea and Clark have been named emergencies alongside Lachie Fogarty and Zach Guthrie.

Why would you hate them. Getting a two on one situation up forward is only achieved through a combination of risky play and good coaching strategy. Sure if a player kicks 3 goals from them his individual game is overstated but from a team perspective there just as good if not better then some other goals.
