After finally getting out of first gear in the fourth quarter we put it away. Hopefully we can play Collingwood next Saturday night for a place in the final! :thumbsu:

Dont you mean Millhouse is an idiot? :D
I wouldn't insult Millhouse

Maher just has no idea - i can put up with Blighty but Maher is just a tool - his comments after Rooke was concussed were just ridiculous.

He just says whatever he thinks adds drama/is sensational regardless of the facts.

Actually, Blight's one of the few 'expert commentators' I have time for.

Are you sure I didn't watch the replay of the Carlton game last week?

Dead set it was a carbon copy minus the Kingsley kicking nine straight bit.

ps did anyone else cringe when he went back and took the kick after Ottens last year

Prismall and Stokes showed a bit. Slade attacked the footy hard. The forward line really struggled without Ottens, Playfair, Chappie, SJ and then later on Kingsley. Maybe he was the invisible man and I just missed him but I was surprised Gardiner didn't get a lot of game time especially once Kingley went off. Lonergan looked ok, can't kick. Nathan is due for a spell in the 2s.

At one stage in the last quarter I swear Joel Corey contested a centre bounce - that or Mooney transported himself to the forward line in record time.

Oh well. We are half way to becoming the least impressive pre season cup winners in the history of Aussie Rules :D

Impressed with Stokes tonight, did quite a few good things, looks like he could be a decent player. Will Slade also had a nice game, good to see him back. Spencer I thought was again dissappointing just seemed too big and slow at times and did some stupid things.

Umpiring was atrocious both ways, there were free's that were payed that were never there and so many missed that were definitely there, the extra umpire looks to have just made things a bit more confusing for them all.

Good to get away with the win in the end, turned it on in the last quarter again, after a very slow 2nd and 3rd.

So what have we learnt from this mediocre heartburn mistake feast.

Blake , has a fair way still to go to be any where near being able to carry our ruck. We still a have big chink in our armour. The ruck.

Prismall, handy type that just might be a little more clever than someone like Koola. Game time will develop him into a very handy player one feels

Lonergan , can the real Lonergan please stand up. Can you kick or not been practicing with KK or something

Nathan , clever controller of those ground balls but gett pulled into those ground contests a little too often. He is such a good worker of the ball and putting it to advantage that he is wasted at the bottom of a pack

Spencer , Mmmmm

Hunt , nice to see has really settled in that backline and stopped giving away aviodable silly frees

Byrnes, kicked better tonight but for a man of your size please learn to use you right

Stokes , greedy little fella but he is a small forward after all. Has a nice liitle element of slipperyness to him, he may just be better replacement for the North bound Tasweigan than I thought.

Slade, good effort , nice too see someone who was playing like he really wanted do some thing.

Bachelor , early days

Playfair, Harley , still missed

Tenace , nice little effort

Gary Ablett , could be a big year.

Nothing too suprising I suppose but boy this half tuned , tempo controlled game crap is not pleasant to watch. Next week , I hope that we can get out of 2nd gear.

Umpires were ridiculous (again). This whole interpretation fiasco is quickly becoming a joke. We may as well hold an annual lottery to determine how the rules will be played out each season. And all this coming from a group of senior umpires - bloody ridiculous.

Not many had top games, but aside from the quartet of youngsters who impressed (Slade, Stokes, Batchelor, and Prismall) I thought Kane deserved (another) mention. Cooled off in the end, but I saw enough that suggests he's coming around. Disposal was tidier, vision was better, running was better timed, and decisions were all-around a general improvement. Thoughts of him actually fulfilling the early expectations placed on him (however reasonable they are) is still a long way off, but he's done enough tonight to suggest he's coming around.

Umpiring was baffling at best.

If Before the Game was on right now, Tool of the YEAR would be done and dusted, going to the ump that paid deliberate for a 50 meter kick!!

Thats the point. If the both standup , we have a double team as good as any. If the fall down we no real third line. Mooney, he'd just get free kicked and injured?

We might just live and die on their fitness. The skill isnt questioned but their fitness isnt their strong suit and we havent been great at protecting that weakness

This is actually the worst umpiring I've ever seen. Some guy just came directly with the flight straight into Nathan, and no free given. Joke.
Don't complain,it got you the win didn't it?

He's not mean't to be carrying our ruck yet. It's only because King and Ottens aren't being risked that he is at the moment.

Lonergan , can the real Lonergan please stand up. Can you kick or not been practicing with KK or something
He did some good things tonight. Then he had to kick the ball after doing the good things.

Hunt , nice to see has really settled in that backline and stopped giving away aviodable silly frees
At least one of the 2 bad boys behaved tonight. The other still gave away a couple of dumb frees.

Stokes , greedy little fella but he is a small forward after all. Has a nice liitle element of slipperyness to him, he may just be better replacement for the North bound Tasweigan than I thought.
He did okay and hopefully retains his spot next week.

Slade, good effort , nice too see someone who was playing like he really wanted do some thing.
Well done Will :thumbsu:

Tenace , nice little effort

Gary Ablett , could be a big year.
Agree on both

Totally understand that Jub, but I didnt like his peformance in the middle.Whats he been doing , training at the "Captain King's School of non jump rucking". He was not up againt old time campainers here, in fact Hale will be probably giving him strife for the next...ah.. however long Blake plays.
Around the ground? Even by himself he hardly looked convincing. Am I being harsh, maybe gees, a little bit of something please!!

Question is this man really our next ruckman? At the moment I'm not convinced.

Can anyone give me more of an insight in to Spencer's game apart from Mmmmmm?
Mmm, is probably the way I aviod offending those who have Spencer and his future at heart.

Welles have made very few mistakes and poor picks over the last few years. As good as any club, better than most. But this means little in the end for some of the unlucker players as they try to fit into our 22. Every year , no matter what, 3 must be delisted. Some may well find opitunities elsewhere and they are by no means duds just because they are moved on. Plenty of players that we consider our own started in other colours and changed clubs to find a future and the facts are the some on our list will do the same. With a limited number on playing lists and AFL team leveling devices such as Salary Cap and Draft ensure in that in end that the talent pool finds an equal level. No pool can be too deep before it leaks into a neighbouring shallow pool.

Now Spencer may yet develop into a top class CHB, FB or some other position , I just feel that with the side we now have he may lack the chance to get the run of games , the 10,20,30 games of pain and mistakes that many players have to go though before they become solid regular players.

We will see. Good luck to him.I can see he is trying, I question not his work ethic or his motivation, I just question where he fits in our best 22

Watched the replay late last night. Very similar feeling to that after the Carlton game - yeah we won, not too many injuries but pretty unimpressive. Both games have had VFL feels to them and in the case of last night it's probably not hard to see why with so many youngsters.

I really liked Prismall's game. Seems to be pretty hard at it, uses it well and does smart things. I agree with the comment that he seems like he may have more to offer than someone like Koulariotis. I'll be very happy if he plays 10 games this season - I think he deserves it.

Tenace showed us why we should be excited about him. He carried the ball, he attacked it and he used it reasonably well on both sides of his body. When he's going he truly is a duel-sided player. Thought he was probably our best midfielder. Was denied a 9-pointer fairly or unfairly as well.

Stokes showed some good signs. Looks very neat and clean but creative. Could be a nice spark in the side and may play a few games this season.

Thought the rest of the midfielders were just average. Ling, Bartel, Corey and Enright in particular. They haven't hit form yet and we'll be a much better unit when they do. Ablett had yet another close tag and did a lot of hard things but was wasteful in front of goal and didn't hurt the opposition very much.

We'll also be much stronger when Ottens comes in to ease the pressure on Nathan, likewise King for Blake.

Good to see Stokes did well, should have been drafted yonks ago, just his size was questioned but he has very clean skills and is poised, yet slippery and creative.

Also reckon Batchelor can come on with some disposal tuning, he has a go at least.
