Agreed. Whether his "toughness" around the contest is worth the FAs is up for debate.

Should.be instructed to take first options more, I guess.
I think it was a worthy experiment. His career is headed for a dead end as a pressure forward. Pre-season he looked good back there but I think now the pace of the real season is too much for him.

Not resting anyone. We aren’t travelling that well.

People losing faith in Smith and Selwood is fairly confusing. Smith kicked 2 with 21 disposals, Selwood with 30 disposals 8 tackles. Probably the two best players we had yesterday. Find it strange that people are questioning their ability to “get it done” when they’ve done it every week this year. Certainly hasn’t been their fault we’ve started so poorly and definitely rate their ability to get it done at the pointy end and history suggests that also

That our best two players were Selwood and Smith says a lot

North are going to beat someone eventually, we're playing terribly and we have history of putting up shithouse performances against perceived lowly sides. Should be an easy win but we'll probably make a close game of it.

Dahlhaus has to go, and Zuthrie dumped and delisted - pay him out now and get a pick in the midseason draft. Narkle 56% game time, if Constable put that up despite finding the ball 20 times he'd get slammed, so Narkle out too. Holmes should get a reprieve, it was disgusting to relegate him to the medical sub for Zuthrie to fail yet again, but with so many senior players returning this week he's going to find it tough. That move is going to sh*t me for a while.

Narkle gets a reprieve due to playing half a VFL match the day before, so likely played 80% game time across 2 matches - if he retains his spot in the seniors & is still playing low TOG without a VFL match the day before, then sure, questions should be asked

And there's nothing disgusting about managing a youngster, which is surely preferential to running him into the ground just 4 rounds into his first season

If the club was disappointed with his efforts on Easter Monday he would have been playing VFL on Saturday - instead he was still with the senior guys, gaining valuable experience and freshened up ahead of his next run of games

He was 'omitted' clearly in the team sheet. They've shown in the past that they're not averse to listing them as 'managed' when the need arises. The only positive out of the move is hopefully now the bigwigs in charge finally realise Zuthrie is not up to it and we can move on from him for good.

If someone is truly omitted they play VFL. It’s a very simple objective test.

I queried this, but, as cats_09 pointed out, you can't be putting someone in as the medical sub - if you're listing them as 'managed.' Having Holmes listed as 'omitted' was clearly for that reason...as Holmes did indeed end up being the med sub (due to being more than good enough, but still looking completely stuffed after last week's match)

Ok fine, relegated to medical emergency after his debut. Semantics really.
You don’t see some logic to it if he was sore after debut and they wanted to manage his game time?

That's just an assumption we're making though. Is there any definitive proof he was too sore to play, or are we just basing it on the fact he was tired at the end of a football match?

I mean, if anyone has any better info I’m all ears but Occam’s razor...

To me this is one of those matches where we'll get a heap of good players back, go out and kick a struggling side and win by a big margin, then decide everything's OK after all and not actually change the things that need to be fixed. Matches like this only serve to paper over the cracks.

Fair enough, but then it's probably fair to say we had a bit of a mare all 'round yesterday on the player management front. What if a player got concussed at the opening bounce and we have to bring in Max Holmes who can't play the full minutes because he's still reeling from last week, plus we already have Narkle out there who just played VFL the day before so could only manage 56% game time. That just seems really poor.

Yeah I know Rohan will probably play...and against low opposition will probably have a blinder and kick multiple goals, but is he really in the best 22?

Anyway, I will not pass final judgement until we have him, Hawkins and Cameron in the side and see how it all works.

Seems quite damning for Constable IMO. They were willing to risk Holmes as you say and force Narkle to play 6 quarters in 24 hours to avoid playing him.

Beyond these three though, I don’t think we had many viable options.

Drop Menegola after one game back from injury?

Constable, Jarvis, Kreuger - three blokes that can't get a kick in a VFL practice match, yet posters on this board demand they play AFL every week. Never gets old.

Dangerfield and Rohan in this week. Sounds like Jezza is unlikely. Zuthrie out, Henry back to defence.

I'll be disappointed if Stanley retains his spot after his insipid performance. I can forgive getting beaten by one of the best in the game, but there was no effort and it hasn't been just the one game this year. Sounds like Fort was good on the weekend, bring him in.

If a win at home against north has us getting complacent, well...
Cant see anyone thinking like that.

I still think Constable is worth persisting with but that really was the biggest sign yet that the kid is getting the flick come years' end. Probably not the thread for it, but early days I genuinely thought we struck gold with the 2017 draft, Fogarty, Kelly, Constable and Miers all showed they had a lot to work with early on, but we're going to be left with just Miers when all is said and done. Different reasons, but it brings me back to Menzel, Duncan, Christensen, Vardy all over again.
