Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

A woeful one.

Finals arent club games.

Finals were introduced by the VFL to make more money for the league and generate buzz via big attendances.

Yet some Geelong handbaggers now think that finals should be just like a H&A game.
Are we really bringing the VFL into this? Ancient historic mate. We’ve moved into the 21st century now, way past that bush league stuff.

Seeds time to make a Geelong vs dees prelim final should not be at the mcg thread. But seriously if gmhba is good enough for melbourne in the season, this time there’s no excuse.

The home team should get to choose where the game is played, whether that is SCG, GMHBA, Optus, MCG etc doesn't matter the home team can choose, just like the home and away season
Pies can choose VicPark?

Ground is in cracking condition, and having fans actually be able to go is a secondary consideration supposedly.

Not Geelong's problem that the Magpies relinquished playing official AFL games in their traditional home ground to sate the AFL's demand for more lucre.

Following that logic West Coast should play their all home finals at the MCG because it can accomodate a couple of ten thousand more fans than Optus Stadium.

Making the criteria of where final games should be played on a state basis is a convenient excuse for 9 Melbourne based clubs to screw Geelong from deciding where the club feels their home finals should be played.

No, West Coast should play their home finals at the MCG because Optus Stadium can’t even put up goal posts properly…

I agree. It should be up to the team. If North finish high enough, they should be allowed to choose Blundstone; if a game is played there throughout the home and away season, it also qualifies for the finals.

Didn't you read what was said?

The club agrees they should be at the MCG.

As long as it's an AFL certified ground then yes, but fact is Collingwood don't play there during regular season so why would they in finals? Just like Hawthorn and North only choose to play certain teams in Tasmania, if they can do it during regular season they should be able to do it during finals too.

Not Collingwood's problem that finals venues have always been about the AFLs demand for more lucre.

You have followed poorly.

A WC v Port final, no guarantee will get anywhere near the 60k at the G that it would get at Optus.

Hence home State for early rounds enables the AFL to almost guarantee packed houses across the country.

Not Collingwood's problem that final games are determined by the AFL on a state basis.

Collingwood's AFLW and reserves team play at VicPark so still a certified ground.

Collingwood dont play at CatPark during regular season either, so why would they in finals?

Agree for all 18 teams. Reality is due to commercial $factors afl and tv stations wont allow it though.

Alright so why do Collingwood mens AFL never play home games at VicPark? If they want to, let them.

Collingwood don't play at GMHBA for the same reason that Geelong "hosted" a home final vs Collingwood at the MCG. If AFL lets Geelong play every home game wherever they want Collingwood will play at GMHBA in both finals and home and away

This is a final dude. Money is far less important here then home advantage. Plus we dont get the money from a big crowd in a final.
This is correct. Sydney will host their preliminary final at the SCG rather than the stadium with the biggest capacity, Accor,
The whole thread is a few handbaggers who dont seem to understand the rules around AFL finals.

Instead they are sooking for something that they have never been entitled to for 125 years....but keep saying they have earnt it.

LoL

The issue is that the rules are not applied consistently. Sydney have earned the right to host a home preliminary final. Based on the “logic” of clubs which play 14+ games at the MCG, all finals should be played at the stadium with the highest capacity to maximise revenue and attendance. However, Sydney have elected to play their home final at the SCG and it was ticked off without any issue by the AFL.

This isn't the slam dunk you think it is.

Sydney have played plenty of finals at Stadium Australia. One The reason they stopped was because crowds stop going. They get more fans at SCG than they do at that shithole despite the lower capacity.

That’s true. Crowds dropped off in the late 00s until it just wasn’t feasible anymore to play games there.

However they have still gone back to Homebush after their contract ending. Swans hosted a final at Homebush against GWS in 2016. They have also played a couple of H&A games there between the two teams in the last 6 years.

Swans got 44K against Collingwood in round 22 at the SCG. I guarantee you if Collingwood win against Freo and then play the Swans at Homebush, you will get 60-65k there.

So it begs the question, why are the rules being inconsistently applied? The PF between Swans and Collingwood should be at Homebush. You are preventing up to 20k from attending by having it at the SCG
PS as a pies supporter, given our 10-3 record at Homebush, playing there would suit us fine :)

Do the AFL have a contract to play any games at Stadium Australia anymore??

Bit hard to play at a venue if you have no commercial agreement in place.
