Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

Why are Cats fans terrified about a team with a percentage of 104. Lower percentage than Port and almost the same as GC.

Maybe as a compromise the AFL could change the dimensions of the MCG and spray one wing in a straight line.

Think it's more about fairness, like lions having to play a home Prelim at the MCG in 2004

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.

we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.

surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.

note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.

play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.

for the sake of the competition.

you are right..it's not fair.

You have a week to find 50,000 extra seats at Skilled Stadium then you can play it there.

Does that not already happen with WBD, Saints, North etc?

If not, why not?
No, we also have to play home finals at the G when we'd all be lucky to play 1 or 2 matches there each season. The comp is genuinely bullshit when it comes to this stuff. If you finish higher then finals should be at your home ground.

Have you seen Kardinia park. The ground is a construction site and has mangled dimensions. I've not seen a construction project of this size take this long to build. It doesn't look like its been progressed in the past 12 months.

IMO Cats should relocate their home ground to the MCG permanently.

Consider it some practice so you can't whinge about not playing on the G enough etc.

The AFL is a business ffs they're not going to hold a final for two Vic clubs in that dump of a shanty town.

Bums on seats = revenue.

That's a valid argument for this year, but what about prior years?

You mean the 2017 final where the Cats kicked their FIRST goal of the match at the 26-minute mark of the SECOND quarter …. and went on to lose by 51 points ?

Then in the PF the Cats SECOND goal was 8-minutes into the second quarter when down 58-8 in a match they lost by 61 points.

So yeah, I can see why you thought the 2017 finals series was ridiculous - ridiculous how bad the Cats were for a team that finished second on the ladder.

Isn't there at least one neutral ground in Melbs they could play on?
Why not North's home ground instead of Collingwoods?

Prior years have followed what the VFL/AFL have done for 100+ years. Regardless of where each team plays home games - Vic Park, Windy Hill, MCG, KP, Punt Road - finals are played at the MCG, Waverley or Marvel. If the crowd is expected to be huge it’s at the MCG….. has been this way forever.

At least you guys have a home ground. We don't even have one.

Do you also recall 3 weeks before the finals they beat you comfortably?

That magical time of the year when a Geelong fan makes this thread and everyone piles in on them for a few weeks until they bow out.

I know this is probably unwise of me to comment on this thread. Why would a Cat fan be upset. They have a great setup. 16 games in Victoria every year, 8 of those with a obvious home ground advantage. No other team in the league has their own home ground. It's a huge win for the Cats. The games "away" aren't that bad either. Marquee games against Hawthorn for Easter Monday and Collingwood and Tigers seems like a good set up. Maximise big crowds and exposure while still a damn good chance to win.

I still remember when Richmond had to go down to Geelong in 2017. Lost by a couple of goals late in the year. I think the last time before that was 2006, and I think it may have been Wayne Campbells last game (he ended on 297 for what it's worth). It has always felt like the 2017 finals series started this statement from Geelong. Tigers beat them a few weeks after going down in a close game in Geelong, and it was high on the agenda for awhile. Chris Scott included. He would always bring it up. Made an issue out of it. Probably distracted and hurt their chances to be honest.

If Geelong are good enough to win the flag this year, they will. And Geelong will not say a peep about where the games are played.

What makes a mockery of the competition is the fact that you have such a huge advantage playing on your narrow s**t heap. You can strangle teams who are not used to its dimensions. You have a unique situation. Collingwood share their "home" ground with a number of other teams and you get to play there often. You haven't struggled there during the past 15 years have you?
Comments like these are why interstate sides dislike Victorian clubs so much, this narrative that the footy world should revolve around the CBD of Melbourne and everyone else should confirm into line.

No the people of geelong shouldn’t drive 75-100+km through peak hour traffic over 2hrs on a Friday evening to get to a home game at the MCG, then drive home their kids by 1am that morning.

What a phenomenal advantage to the geelong football club and it’s loyal supporter base for finishing two games clear ontop of the ladder.

AFL only cares about $$$ not about equality and fans.

Lol mangled dimensions, you mean they are dimensions you don’t like?? Variation is a good thing. Each ground should have their own unique feature and touches. You don’t want some robotic system with every ground the same. Boring
