So you're happy to play at the G next week. What are we arguing about then?
Interstate clubs deserve a home final as they travel much more than Victorian clubs. That travel has an effect on players.

I don’t think it’s particularly fair but I get why they do it and it isn’t about to change so who gives a shit.

But people should be allowed to highlight the fact that, whichever way you look at it, it’s not fair.

And I will take the opportunity to point out that like several other people in this forum who seem incapable of understanding basic maths:

Claiming a team keeps getting helped by an unfair draw, when generally speaking we’ve been in the toughest third of the draw for a decade, and have a winning percentage away from Geelong good enough to finish top four in each of the seasons we’ve managed it, is false.

Maybe win a final at your supposed home ground first, champ 😎

/sarcasm

No chance it’s happening. Your ground is under construction. Even if it was complete unless it’s special circumstances like 2013 where every other final is in Melbourne, it probably still won’t happen as they’ll split the games over 3 days and do sat day and sat night.

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.

we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.

surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.

note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.

play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.

for the sake of the competition.
that absolutely garbage ground thats shaped more like a potato than an oval Geelong call home should be barred from holding any AFL games let alone finals..

if interstate teams who end up higher on the ladder have to play at the G.. then so should Geelong. suck it up.

Close thread.

Confused? How many fans do Geelong have? Why can’t they buy tickets to an MCG game? MCG members are neutral as well. So why are you in such a negative mindset?

(even though your dismissal of GF bias is plainly wrong, I won’t address it here because you’ve clearly got an agenda)

The last time there was a final in Geelong the cats lost to freo, who made a mockery of their claim for home finals. I would think Geelong fans would want to avoid further humiliation.

So because the one final we've played there in the last few decades - and which was 9 years ago - was a loss (and by a "massive" margin of 15 pts), fans should be grateful to not play there "to avoid further humiliation"?

...

I know the main board is a swamp of stupidity... so I guess have to point the finger at myself for wading waist deep into it.

Every Melbourne based team should have their own home ground, why is Geelong so special??

Ahh I've missed the melts
Every Melbourne based team did have their own home ground but they stuffed it up, not Geelongs fault for having good management and making smart decisions.

They're not an interstate team yet you compare them to your team which has to fly 2000km every 2nd week.
Interstate sides have to fly to Melbourne then travel to Geelong to play them. Vic teams don't have to even drive down the highway?
Every team that earns home ground deserves it doesn't matter against who.

Every. Single. Year.
Yeah, because we keep winning and earn a home final.
I just wish when Richmond finished first you played your first final at Marvel, then we'd never have this debate again.
If Richmond do finish first in the future and are required to play their finals at Marvel and no Richmond supporter whinges, then I'll never argue this point again.

If it wasn’t currently a construction site, absolutely the Cats should get to choose where they want to play it.

Odds are if they were playing Freo, Lions or Swans it would have been scheduled for GMHBA (again if there wasn’t construction).

May be a redundant question anyway, perhaps the Cats prefer to play finals on the G and get an extra game or two on the ground the GF will be if they make it.

This is cute. Basically saying "The MCG is a neutral venue on GF day, so don't complain interstaters. But it's not neutral when Geelong get shafted." LOL
