What's the big deal here? The rules are the rules. You are a Victorian team who should play all games against large drawing teams at the largest Victorian stadium - especially finals. The same rule applies for those teams who play at the smaller Etihad stadium (which is significantly bigger than Simmonds btw). Yes you did earn the right to a home final and you're getting one. None of the other Victorian teams really have an exclusive home ground so playing at the MCG or Etihad gives them very little advantage.

Do you want the Grand Final played at Simmonds Stadium too? That argument would make the same amount of sense.

Big games should be played at Big Stadiums. If you're good enough you'll win on neutral ground and no amount of foot stamping by your coach or supporters will change things.

You do realise this is all just posturing by the club to get an iron clad guarantee from the AFL that all home finals against interstate sides are played in Geelong?

There is an argument that the ground has now been sufficiently developed to the standard that would be expected of an AFL finals venue and that if it was in any of the other AFL states, no-one would have a problem with it hosting finals.

However, to expect the AFL to hold finals that are going to crack 90K comfortably in Geelong is pretty fanciful. And it was never an issue for Geelong to play 'home' finals at the MCG when it was a juggernaut in the 2007-11 period. There's really no excuse for not being able to play finals at the MCG. If your team's gamestyle doesn't hold up there, that's a fundamental flaw.
You're right, the ground has been sufficiently developed however its capacity to host a Finals match crowd falls way short. This is the fundamental issue.

Wait, you're telling me Geelong is playing Richmond next Friday?!?!

The way the Melbourne press is covering it I thought it was a Richmond internal trial game, as have heard nothing about Geelong so far whilst every man and his dog at Richmond has gone media street.

It's really hard to take Geelong fans whinging about where they've played 99% of their home finals seriously, especially when they got a preliminary final at the MCG in 2004 against the 'home' side Brisbane.

Suck it up. And go Tigers!

Not Richmonds fault they're a bigger club than Geelong.

I think it is more to do with the fact Richmond are viewing this as their grand final and lapping up the attention while Geelong are keeping their nose out of the media and focusing on winning the game.
Biggest crock of shit i have read on big footy since North said Dusty was signing and you know it.

And tell me exactly how is Geelong focusing on "winning this game" and Richmond isn't?

I really doubt club itself is viewing it in such a way. I'd say there's a lot of hype around the tigers as it's been a while since they've been top 4 - no doubt the Richmond faithful and the media are a bit excited, for good reason, it's a good story. Don't see why geelong fans are getting salty about it. Top 4 etc is the norm for you guys, of course there ain't as much hype.

not concerned in the slightest about where the QF is played... bit bemused at the ferocity of opposition to it being at the MCG. dont remember hearing many, if any, complaints about it before this year.

and if we arent good enough to make the PF straight up, im glad it will be richmond getting there. i really like the tigers.

Why this year??

Every other year Geelong people have just grumbled and got on with it. The G rules. And being just down the road means the AFL can plonk you there if it suits them. The AFL do this sort of thing all the time. And they have been doing exactly this, Geelong at the G in finals, for years.

Wonder if we were to look into the posting history of those Tiger fans telling Geelong fans to suck it up, if we'd see the same posters whinging that they had to play at Simonds a few weeks back.
i whinged. but not because richmond shouldn't have to go down there, but because somehow collingwood, carlton and essendon haven't been forced to play at the geelong athletics track in 20+ years. hawks too?

Listen here young fella the point is why listen to the consensus of fans whoever the F#$k they are or the "experts". As for the bookies as we speak Geelong are marginal Favourites. Happy the game is at the G. Hope we get some umpires that allow a free flowing game. There ya go both teams start at Zero. So get some concrete in your coffee and harden the fcuk up. It's only a game.
so what is your logic for geelong being underdogs, fossil dcik? i mean, if we are disregarding bookies, fans, and experts...

because I'm sure the local tabloid in geelong is presenting stories and hype for both teams....

so in complete contradiction of your original point, you are now stating richmond in fact, are the underdogs?

yes, one has culture, state of the art and high capacity facilities, good drinking water, and a decent nightlife...

the other has steve motlop, lambys and the advertiser....

And a few flags in the last 35 years as opposed to none

Can't believe the tigers supporters talking it up whe they have done nothing
AT ALL since most of them were alive to see.

Apart from Melbourne have been the highest failures in since the AFL started so enjoy tomorrow and pray you don't lose coz this is your only chance to pinch one.

this has nothing to do with the 22 blokes each club is trotting out tomorrow.

it's to do with geelong fans all of a sudden demanding they should get home finals at simmonds, after playing 1(?) in the afl's existence...

how dare you bring football, and success into it ;)
