Eagles have a significant advantage in rest as they played Friday night against Geelong's Monday Twilight. Pretty much 3 days by the time the Eagles played Port and the Cats met the Hawkers. Gonna be a cracking battle with the Eagles coming off a bad home loss and haven't won at the Cattery since 2006, the last time they won the flag. They earned that victory by clawing their way back from a 54 point deficit missing Judd and Cousins { or just Cousins ) Similar circumstances too when a year later as the reigning prems, also in round 7, Geelong got the win against the then undefetaed WCE. Geelong went on to win the flag, one can only dream.

The Eagles will be hoping for a repeat of the round 7 clash in 1993 when they played the Cats in the GF rematch as defending champs. On a Sunday also at Kardinia, the Eagles overcame a 38 point 3rd quarter deficit to topple the Geelong. Peter Ricciardi destroyed and frustrated Norm Smith Medallist Peter Matera even causing him to strike the young Cat earning him a suspension. Peter Sumich may have also got reported, or if memory serves correct went off with a hamstring injury. The Eagles won a fiery encounter by 8 points.

I think we're in better shape form wise but will tip the Eagles given they have the extra days rest. If we win this game which we're still capable of doing then no question will be the Premiership favourites having beaten the Grand Finalists of 2018. Particularly given the short turn around.

Expect blood.

Can you amend to add wings, and inside and outside mid,
And maybe adjust to make it full forward, small forward, half forward, defensive forward.
And full back, pack pocket, running defender, intercept defender?

Just a suggestion.

Some classic games between the two

1991 - Eagles win by a point Friday Night at the WACA

11.13 to 8.16 Preliminary Final later that season at Waverley. Sumich 6 goals

1992

Geelong 20.10 defeat WCE 15.16 at Subiaco

11 goals to the Cats in the 2nd term. Ablett got 5 for the match

Eagles 15.6 defeat Geelong 12.5 at Kardinia

We were top but the Eagles jumped us with a 7.2 to 2.2 opening term

2nd semi final

WCE 20.13 defeat Geelong 14.11 at the MCG

I knew we were done for here. I think the Eagles kicked 6 or 7 in the 2nd term after the opener was even. Sumich had 6 in the first half from memory finishing the match with 8 but Matera also destroyed us getting over 30 touches possibly. Freak goal by Mainwaring.

Grand Final

16.17 to 12.13 Eagles win. Sumich 6 Matera 5. Enough said.

Already mentioned the 38 point come back by WCE in 93 opening post. We got them with a massive last quarter though in the last game of the home and away season at the WACA. Overcome a 3qtr time deficit and kicked about 6 in the last Ablett nailing 5 and Stoneham 4.

1994

Eagles beat us again at Kardinia Tony Evans snagged 4 in the wet.

Grand Final Eagles slaughtered us

1996

We got them at Subi and jumped them in the first half but they fought back. We held them off.

1997

Round 2

Ricciardi 6 goals and a big last quarter as we won 11.12 to 11.6 ensuring we beat them for the third straight time at Kardinia.

We drew in 2003, lost a close one in 2004 under lights and did have some famous battles in 2011 and 2012 on their home ground underlights. We lost both of those but got them in the 2011 Prelim on way to securing our 3rd flag in 5 seasons:)

Last year round 3 was a beauty. We would have got them if not for injuries during the game to Ablett and Guthrie.

Hope the Eagles don't get lost.

We've played them at home twice since Chris Scott became coach.

Chris Scott is into his 9th year as coach.
We got lost on our HG the other day so every chance we get lost trying to find your place!

Statement game for the Cats. In such an even year where Geelong has managed to get its nose in front (along with St Kilda) this, like last week would be looked at by outsiders as a game that 'they can afford to drop' (i.e. if it's a relatively close loss, they will probably stay top two). Taking the pragmatic view, winning one of the next two (the following week against Essendon is certainly no gimme) would still be an outstanding start to the year.

But stuff that. This is a huge test of the Cats' resolve. They've dropped one at home already, the Eagles will be up for it following a shocking loss, let's see what this Geelong side is made of.

I reckon we'll lose one of the next two. If Eagles beat us, we'll beat the Dons. If we beat the Eagles, Dons will roll us.

Cracking game either way and the winner will be outright Premiership favourites.

Still remember the 2006 rd10 match at Kardinia. 55 points down in the third. We won.

Then I remember going to skilled back in 2014 and not scoring after qtr time.

Wish I was living in Vic still. Would love to go.
