Now 3-8 in finals since the 2011 flag.

For a club who's constantly up there and has had 4x top 4 finishes in those 6 years (a great achievement), it's a sobering record. No grand finals.

What is going on there? Are they simply marking time and middling: not good enough to truly challenge and not regenerating either?

Do they need a change in philosophy?

Surely questions begin to be asked.

Been there since 2011 and delivered nothing since the 2011 flag that any coach probably could have coached. Was praised for it at the time but in hindsight that team wasn't cooked like many thought in 2010.

His finals record is pretty awful. Two years in a row now his team hasn't shown up to play for a grand final spot.

Adelaide totally picked apart his structure tonight from the start too. Nothing was done to stop the run of the Crows.

They are in an awkward position. Have older guys who are going and young good talent. They will either recruit the three or so players they need and the young ones will come up or they will fall away with nothing. There is good group of talent there but it seems very raw. There is a few similarities with Adelaide 2014to16 and st kilda 04 to 8.

Chris Scott that's why! Instead of giving this team a rebuild like he should have after 2013 we went the top up papering over the cracks way instead! to late now for a rebuild!

Club is stuck in no mans land, will always be near enough but not good enough under Scott.

No doubt he has the runs on the board as a player but his captaincy record in finals is atrocious. Since taking over in 2012 as captain his record as captain is as follows.

2012 - Lost elimination final
2013 - Lost Qualifying final, Won elimination and lost prelim
2014 - Lost Qualifying and elimination final
2015 - Missed finals
2016 - Won Qualifying final, Lost prelim
2017 - Lost Qualifying, Won semi final, Lost prelim

That equates to a record of 3-8 since he took over. The media talk him up as one of the best captains in the league but if you can't get your troops up for when it matters is it simply another media furphy?

At least they are playing finals!! Mid naughties Adelaide where the best team but couldn't make a grand final if their life depended on it. Swings and roundabouts.

Its not really their fault.

Their list is mostly what you would expect from a team who had the run they did.

But they have two stars who have lifted them out of the pack but its an unhealthy reliance on those two.

What are they going to do though, not play dangerwood?

Exactly

Just not good enough

Its.actually an indictment rest of the competition that a clearly flawed team.like Geelong is making top 4

Consistently just topped up since 2011. Players who played tonight but not in the 2011 Grand Final who hadn't played elsewhere - Parfitt, Cockatoo, Kolodjashnij, Menzel, Lang, Bews, Menegola, Motlop, Stewart and Blicavs. All OK. None great. Players from elsewhere - Stanley, Tuohy, Smith, S.Selwood, Henderson, Dangerfield. Dangerfield aside, the rest are just OK. They've done enough to hold ground but haven't rebuilt. They are where they deserve to be.
