Obviously given that we play Carlton and it's their home game this was always going to be a predominantly white jumper. I like it and think it has been well done.

Mods. I did search for a thread and didn't find one, if there is one merge is fine.

Edit:

"Designed by past player Nathan Djerrkura, the guernsey will be proudly worn in the Indigenous Round clash with Carlton on May 29 and in the Close The Gap match against Greater Western Sydney at Simonds Stadium the following weekend."

In 2014 we got thumped to the tune of 110 points by Sydney while wearing our Indigenous jumper, in 2015 we copped a shellacking from the Eagles by 56 points. Bloody things are cursed as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Whats with the spelling?

History
Explorers Hume and Hovell recorded the Aboriginal word 'Jillong' - thought to mean land or cliffs - in 1824. The Wathaurong word actually meant 'tongue-shaped' and referred to the entire Bellarine Peninsula. One of eight Wathaurong clans in the region - the 'Wudthaurang' - owned the land between the Barwon River and Armstrong's Creek which encompasses what we know today as the city of Geelong.

I think it's the best Geelong design. Works indigenous artistic elements into the design rather than just slapping some dots and symbols all over it. It's too bad the indigenous jumpers evoke some pretty sour memories.

I have issues with bringing in football as its almost a political debate.. nothing can ever be done now with have ulterior motives.Did we all go birko over that sign at the G? Highlighting special groups and cause tends to be more divisive than harmonious . Even the Pink Lady round... why only Breast Cancer? Plenty die and suffer from a range of Cancers , as we have seen this week. Would it seem strange if the Netball did a round for Prostate? Yet that is the most common diagnosed. What about kids with Leukemias? Id prefer an over all Yellow Daffodil Round that does not emphasises one sex, or one particular type. Then why only Cancer..why not Heart round etc.

As usual with any of the jumpers , if will not comment till I see it on the ground being played . Stuff can look good or bad in the shop ..its how it look when we are playing thats of concern for me , as Id not be interested in buying it.

It's the Aboriginal name for the region, from which Geelong is derived.

This doesn't make sense to me. Did Aboriginal people write it like that? I really doubt it. Did they even have a written language? Excuse me my ignorance and correct me if Im wrong , but I really doubt they would have had a written form with letters like j i l l o n g

I certainly agree with this, and this is an argument made beyond football. Breast cancer seems to be the subject of a large proportion of awareness and funding campaigns across the world, yet prostate cancer kills just as many if not more. It's something MRA groups are very gung ho about. The argument against this tends to be that breast cancer broadly affects younger women than prostate cancer affects younger men, so it's more likely that a mother will be taken away from her young child(ren) by the disease.

I like the guernsey, just hope the club plays up to it this year. But without question i think we should recognise the contribution that indigenous players have made to the game over a very long time. And for the Cats in the last 20 or so years a significant contribution indeed!

We play pretty poorly in all our themed jumpers, or at least it feels like we do. Even the 'Dawn to Dark' jumper looked cursed with scores level at 3/4 time against the Suns u til we ran away with it in the last.

I wish we could just scrap them completely and wear the straight blue & white hoops each week

Boy we're a superstitious lot in here, maybe we lost because we weren't good enough.

We've played many worse games in our normal jumper....

What a shocker !

Hope they didn't preorder too many
They would have had to meet the suppliers minimum order requirements. These are usually 500 - 1000 units dependant on the supplier

Wow. How old are you?

And for what it's worth. I think the jumper is rubbish. And at the same time I don't care.
Will reserve judgement until I see it in play though.

That's incorrect.

It's the worst looking jumper I've seen in my lifetime of following football and that includes the Carlton jumper.
Nah...
