Here's some interesting stats from tonight's Brownlow count. The stats are made up of the team's total Brownlow tally with the amount of players per team who polled.

1. Port Adelaide 147 Votes - 20 players polled
2. Geelong 106/16
3. West Coast 82/14
4. Hawks 78/12
5. Roos 78/12
6. Swans 77/16
7. Adelaide 73/15
8. Brisbane 70/16
9. St. Kilda 68/10
10. Freo 65/15
11. Pies 55/11
12. Essendon 53/10
13. Doggies 48/10
14. Melbourne 43/13
15. Carlton 39/8
16. Richmond 33/9

Strangely, the top 7 teams were the same teams who ended up in the final 8 except the pies..
One of the things which we have prided ourselves on throughout this season is the supposed evenness of our playing list, yet this Brownlow count was dominated by three - Bartel, Ablett and Corey. Just going by what Bruce was saying during the presentation, we set a record for the most votes from any two players from one club, and also for the most votes from any three players from one club.

Thoughts?

Yeah, lets base it off the Brownlow votes... the same votes that dictated Ablett wasnt best afield in 2 consecutive BOG performances... what a great indicator the umpires are

The thing, the Geelong side is made up of alot of good solid blokes who aren't flashy or superstars or anything of the sort. Players like Milburn and Harley and Mooney and so forth. Unless they have an absolutely amazing game, they don't get noticed. Our top 5 Brownlow getters were Bartel, Gablett, Corey, Chapman and Johnson. All of those are brilliant in their own way, and easily recognised by umpires.

SO if anything, that just displays our evenness.

Very strange how the Cats win three more games than Port and accumulate a massive 39% more over the season, yet pick up 41 less votes.

Midfielders always dominate the voting. Bartell, Abblet and Corey are our best midfielders.

Ling as a tagger will get very few votes although he was sensational. Our forwards have never dominated as individuals (no player with more than 5 goals in any match). Backs (best defensive unit in the comp) never poll votes, so don't expect many for Scarlett, Egan, Milburn, etc.

Therefore no surprise the way the votes went and absolutely no indication at all as to the evenness of our side.

Can't see how PORT can get 147 votes. Maximum votes per game is 6 over 22 games is 132 votes.
I think it may have been a compilation of both Adelaide teams (Crows + Port).
The AFL tracker had that all night, Adelaide and Port Adelaide confused.

What is the highest total ever for a team in the Brownlow?

I think Essendon got 116 in 2000. Not sure on that however, am thinking back on it :p It was a bit more then Geelong this year though.

And Johnson did pretty good for a forward, although those games he got votes in he acted more as a loose midfielder then anything who worked hard all day and kicked a couple of goals. Thats Johnson at his best.
