This trade period, what do u think we should be looking for? established players? draft picks?

Personally, i think we could afford to offer David Haynes, and possibly Paul Koulourotis around in the trade period - however nothing to substantial, for Haynes we could get a 4th round pick at best imo, Koula could prob get a late 2nd or early 3rd (i'd prob prefer to keep him for that)

If we wanted to target a high draft pick or a young forward from an opposition club, Kane Tenace would probably be our best option - i think he's great but foot disposal is letting him down - but we would have to demand a big price in return for Turbo.

Kingsley isn't going to take us anywhere with his erratic kicking, but I don't see his name being thrown around in October.

I think it'll be a low key trade period for the Cats this year, lets hope Otto can have an injury free preseason and fire up next season!

Dont think we need to trade as an aim.
I think we need to pick the best players available to us in the draft.
Dont need another key forward. We have Ottens, Kingsley, Henry, NATH. PLenty of other forward options as well.
Just remember in the 2006 draft we have someone who COULD be the best young key position player in the draft coming on a father son.
Tom Hawkins.

Thats true, but if Drum, Dowler or Ryder were to slip through to pick 10 (or so) then surely we'd have to take them!

Another midfielder would be good, perhaps another Hocking is in the mix? Heath ... its only his name that will attract any real interest in the draft, dont think he's anything special ...

I rekon with Scarlo, Harls, Moons, and Egan - our KP defender stocks are well in tact, and Rooke and Milburn can both play tall

Bartel, Ling, Kels, Turbo, Wojcinski, Corey and Enright make a good midfield

Ottens / King and with Blake coming through - need not worry about the ruck division - unless we can get Patrick Ryder

That leaves the forward line, Ottens, Playfair and Nathan Ablett get the tick of approval from me, if we're to win multiple premierships Kingsley, Gardiner, Haynes won't cut it ... I rekon a KP forward is what we need - Lonergan, Mackie, McCarthy, u get the feeling they need to show more ... and at best Mackie is a third tall

that leaves Geelong one option, trade Pick 10 + Haynes to Carlton for their priority pick (number 4 i think) and get Beau Dowler - the kid will be a star!

That trade wont happen. Nice if it did though.
Kent has his knockers and for good reason sometimes, but 55 odd goals this year is a good return.

geez stoney your a bit tough on KK.

Remember he is our leading goal kicker and is actually having pretty decent year, give credit where it is due as apposed to your proposed clean sweep of the list for dud 4th round picks in a dodgy draft year.

Yeah he deserves credit, but he really does frustrate me - i am being admittidly harsh on KK i know ... lol, he's not too bad - but we need a KP forward, our prayers of the past 5 seasons are yet to be answered.

I honestly cant remember proposing a clean sweep of the list, I hardly consider offering Haynes and possibly Koula for draft picks is a clean sweep of the list ...

It's either a 4th rounder at best for Haynes, or we cut our loses and delist him - what would u prefer?

Can I ask why you think on one hand Haynes is worth only a R4 pick but on the other hand Haynes and P10 will get you P4 ( P1 is Priority Pick, P4 is P1 in the draft normal draft)
I cant see anyone giving up a top5 pick for less than a regular player with another 10 years ahead, like Bartel.

My preference is another quality mid with pace (Varcoe) or a medium forward for freak ability (McKinley) in the draft. We have the list we have now by getting kids form the draft, lets stick to it.

haha that was abit of light hearted comedy, i doubt Carlton would give up a top 5 for our first rounder and Haynes ... Haynes will not fetch any more than a fourth rounder, who then hell would give anything more - even though he has potential, he hasnt delivered anything at senior level for some time.

Koula and Haynes would not get picked by another club for anything.

Our 1st pick will hopefully be 19 (dreaming again i'm sorry)

I do not want to lose any of our 1st choice 22 because I think we can improve naturally without adding to the squad.

However I would love to have a crack at Mark Johnson. However the only way I can see us getting him is if Bartel decides he wants to play elsewhere.

I would like to freshen up the squad with 5 or 6 18 year olds (mostly running players).

With Hawkins and Ablett coming together in a couple of years, Henry will be made redundant. Why not swap him for Whitnall or Polak so we can have a crack in the short term at the flag

This yrs draft isnt flash ... i rekon Koula might get a 3rd or 4th round pick if we wanted, however I feel he's better than that so hopefully we don't.

Mark Johnson isnt bad, but we turned our noses at that option last trade period - he could've been ours if we wanted him.

It was a 3 way trade, something like follows:

Mark Johnson + Brad Ottens -> Geelong
Essendon 1st Pick + Geelong 1st Pick -> Richmond
Kane Tenace + Geelong 2nd and 3rd Picks -> Essendon

So Geelong would have gained: MJ and Otto / and Lost: Tenace, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, 3rd rounder

but we wanted the 3rd round pick to secure N Ablett i guess ... and then Tenace is rated exceptionaly highly down KP

Keep Tenace, he'll turn out a very good player and is the pace and skills we need. He's just got a case of second year blues and is dowon on confidence, Kelly went through the same thing and was our best midfielder last year until he broke his leg. One of the things which has exposed us this year has been pace, we need Tenace, otherwise we'll be trading for the same type of player come next year.

I think H should stay as well. There are very few 200cm players in the AFL who have the mobility of H, I would say there's none. He's still learning and will take another season or 2 to become a very good player. Even if CHF is taken by Ablett or Hawkins, H can still be used in defence or as a third tall (Hawkins is still a year away from being drafted and probably 3 years away from a regular gig in the 1s).

I honestly don't think we need to trade this offseason. We aren't lacking in any area, Mark Johnson is not going to add anything to the side, our defence has enough toughness and mongrel in it with Scarlett and Mooney, not too mention our courageous smalls in DJ and Rooke.

Perhaps if McDougall from West Coast came up for a second rounder I'd take it, but that's unlikely. He's got a lot of talent and is very mobile and athletic, I think he may just need to get away from Perth (ie. move away from his comfort zone) in order to realise his talent. The Cupido proposition is another interesting one, but only a second or third rounder. We must keep our first rounder in order to keep getting quality kids into the club.

If I hug Koula really tightly and tell everybody that he's still in contract and glare evilly, would you stop mentioning him as trade bait and work out that he's not going anywhere?

We have enough players out of contract as it is without breaking one.
I think this year we could get away with staying away from the trade table and focusing on the draft. We have no gaping holes, even with retirements and delistings and if we get everyone on the park uninjured we have a pretty good team.

LOL soz i didn't realise he was contracted ... well there goes, Koula wont be given for a pick.

Cupido wont add much, i wouldnt give a second or third pick ... i rekon he'll get d'listd by Essendon and is unlikely to be drafted, so if we still have a spot to fill with a 6th round choice we could consider Cupido or Passing

I'd lean towards passing - lol

I wouldn't worry - Koula's done enough to retain his spot on the list. He's played a few good games and has been stiff with injury lately. Just get used to people mentioning his name though because he isn't a core player so his name will get tossed around.

Mark Johnson wouldnt add anything to our list...well he would sort of add a nutty midfielder who finds the ball, is tough, tackles hard and knows where the goals are.

Brogan, I wouldnt mind Dean Brogan. Its not going to happen, but I wouldnt mind Dean Brogan.

Would love to have Mark Johnson down at Catland, but cant see it happening.
And cant believe people continue to talk about Kent Kingsley as trade bait, 55 goals in a year I'll take for sure, never injured either, and is begginning to add more to his game, getting more of the ball up the ground.
Dont really like Dean Brogan, but would be handy at Geelong. Dont think Geelong will contribute much in trade week.

No wonder H has trouble getting off the ground, he always got Jack on his back.
No to both of those guys thanks Jack
