Funnily enough Hudson said that he thought Hawks were on the wrong end of some decisions

Of course Del Santo then said that we've had a pretty good run with the umps so can't complain :/
So because the Hawks apparently benefited from poor umpiring - in his opinion - before, that makes it OK for poor umpiring to continue into the future. Interesting argument, Dal. If this is the prevailing wisdom, it's no wonder the situation is showing few signs of improvement ...

I'm not anti umpire btw. I just think the rules require too much interpretation on the spur of the moment, with three different interpretations across the field, so the 50-50s or the ones they pay without seeing clearly can easily skew.

From an entertainment point of view bad umpiring is awesome.

Everyone says they want the quality of umpiring to improve, but the thing that really gets them screaming and up out of their chairs is interperative, inconsistent umpiring.

Emotion = success in entertainment.

I tend to find it deflates my interest in a game, but I agree with your point in general.

I guess the AFL could be intentionally muddying the waters to make umpiring more unpredictable. Or resisting fixing the problem, at least.

But I still back cock-up over conspiracy 99 times out of 100 haha

Collingwood and Melbourne at the G....I just can't get my head around this game being a supposed "big game" that everyone is waiting for.

Melbourne are just so bland and nothing. There's just nothing about them that makes you want to barrack for them or against them.

I guess it makes sense that they were long ago been named after a general region on a map, rather than a specific local area of passionate supporters.

Nathan Jones too, he personifies the blandness. So vanilla.

The funny thing is, during the "free kick hawthorn" phase, there were plenty more questionable frees against us. It's a bit like the situation in politics, where neither the left or the right can see the other side of the coin.

Nathan jones is a tryhard. Total battler. Lovable hack. His good games are very good (was awesome against Gold Coast) but against us gifted us some great goals at key moments.

Lewis has had 3 touches with 6mins of the second left and one of them was a beautiful pass to a Collingwood player. Hopefully he can keep getting his hands on the footy over the next 3 years.

Nathan jones is such a typical melbourne 'hero'; where we have legends like Hodge, Buddy and Mitchell, Melbourne have.. Nathan jones and Shane woewodin

Lewis is a hawk champ so I won't celebrate his slowing up / but I do think our decision will be validated next year, especially in light of us already having hodge and gibbo on sharp declines. Can't keep em al
It does seem the Mitchell and Lewis angst has disappeared from our board and the back slapping appears to have disappeared on the demon and eagles board.

And I think this is a really good indicator of things.

I reckon we would have won 2 extra games with one or both of those guys this year (Gold Coast the second time and collingwood). Perhaps the essendon game as well. But the rule is you should always play the long game, unless the pot of gold is within arm's reach.
