Theres a place for Caro and thats in the gossip column. Shes a gossip columnist. She will be seen as journo when she only reports the facts and her articles don't have the words 'allegedly, rumblings, whispers, apparently, speculation' etc etc I swear, I can tell its a Caro article without her signature. The sooner she retires the better. Emma Quayle, Samantha Lane hell even Daisy Pearce are so much better. #rantover

I can forgive Caro almost anything because of the way she and a few other Fairfax journalists fought to keep the spotlight on the Tullamarine peptide scandal and were eventually vindicated by the CAS decision.
Contrast that with the AFL who were desperate to bury the scandal and move on as quickly as possible.
As for the Murdoch rag, the Herald Don and its band of illiterate Essendon apologists, it was difficult to comprehend that it's reporting was anything other a de facto public relations exercise for the Essendon Peptide Club.

I'm interested in your thesis here. The words you quote above as being pseudo antonyms to the facts are common across all forms of journalism - especially for example the political and business realm. Often these are how stories start via internally disgruntled people leaking snippets to start the ball rolling.

1. Do you have a series of absolute examples where Caro was factually incorrect on anything she reported?

2. She chased down Essendon during the drug saga on the above basis despite the criticism she faced from other EFC sympathetic corners of the media. Should she have stopped because she was reporting "rumblings" etc?

3. She took aim at HFC early this year. Given we went 0-6 and looked like a club on its knees post her article, how do you view her insight?

For mine she's a good journo. Unlike Robbo, Stevens, Maclure and fckwit Barrett, she is no grub. But each to their own at the end of the day.

Caro is an investigative journalist, and we have fairly decent defamation laws in this country (ask Bauer media about them). Of course Caro is going to use words like 'allegedly' etc. Any journalist in her position is going to do the same thing.

If Caro hadn't been reporting during the Essendon debacle it would have been a completely different narrative in the press.

response in bold..

1. Do you have a series of absolute examples where Caro was factually incorrect on anything she reported? - Nope. I don't read her writing anymore..maybe a few years now, for the previously mentioned reasons.

2. She chased down Essendon during the drug saga on the above basis despite the criticism she faced from other EFC sympathetic corners of the media. Should she have stopped because she was reporting "rumblings" etc? - I didn't follow the essendon saga because frankly i knew they cheated, no journalist was needed to validate it, nor do I find satisfaction if others believe it more because of her journalism.

3. She took aim at HFC early this year. Given we went 0-6 and looked like a club on its knees post her article, how do you view her insight? I may have read a crappy article about HFC during this time, and perhaps took offence, but really, I didn't need her 'insight'.

For mine she's a good journo. Unlike Robbo, Stevens, Maclure and fckwit Barrett, she is no grub. But each to their own at the end of the day.

Yes, and the fact is that she doesn't write about footy, coaches, football players, tactics, etc, except if it's gossip.
She just covers what's happening in the back rooms.

Her "Clarko is Out Of Control" articles are legendary!

That's her job though. If everyone just covered the game in effusive terms it would get pretty boring very quickly. She does write the occasional piece about the game (mainly after a grand final etc) but her role at The Age is to write the investigative (call them gossip if you want) pieces. As someone who enjoys a bit of corporate intrigue I would much rather hear from her than another 4 paragraph nothing piece from Chris Judd.

This talk of the possible Adelaide vs Richmond clash is just silly. Put one of the teams in white shorts - problem solved. The AFL sure knows how to create problems for itself.
I'm hoping Richmond do all the hard work for us and remove any chance of clash jumpers in Grand Finals forever more. I would hate Hawthorn playing in anything except brown and gold stripes.

You solved the shorts clash. What about the jumpers?

I know which one of the images below would look better on TV, while the players and blurs of colours are in full movement.

It's a quiet time for Hawks fans. No finals action, nor lofty expectations in the trade or draft periods. Our arch enemy, the Cats are on a high, and expecting to add Stringer, GAJ and possibly Smith in the trade period. Just hope their bubble bursts on Friday, either by a lot or by a tight loss.
Hoping for a Crows/Tigers GF. Wouldn't the MCG rock?
Personally not impressed by the AFL stance on SSM survey . include me out.

I see that Lecras has another year on his contract.

Am I the only one who is totally underwhelmed by Lecras?

I know he once kicked 10 goals in a game, but he seems a pretty ordinary player.
Kicked 400+ goals. For a time was the West Coast forward line.

Slowed right down in the last 18 months. Played junior state footy with Buddy yet the big guy has another 5 years left on his contract and LeCras will have a farewell tour next year.

What's your reasoning on that? Seems pretty cut and dry to me- if they wanna get married go right ahead.

I mean, people go "what's next, marrying your dog?"

To which I say, well, no, because there's no such thing as a legally recognised relationship between a person and an animal, and animals cannot give consent so can't legally enter into a contract such as marriage.

But I digress...

Bizarre that your vote is based on the opinion that someone else has on the subject rather than your own.

While I've found both sides annoying and at times offensive and rude, it certainly hasn't been a factor in deciding who to vote for but rather an eyeroll instead
