It has started btw, listening to Nova while driving to the station and I've never felt so angry in the morning like this before. Seriously I hope the boys wins our next two games and somehow we're in the final. Jarryd Roughead is a legend, unselfish player and super awesome human being with or without a dedicated farewell game. As a supporter if we want to watch Roughy let's go to Box Hill games. Jonathan Brown talking about club culture, and how it will ruin our club culture if Roughy didn't get a farewell game. IMHO what will ruin our culture if we start disrespecting the opponent of the day and start throwing the game out.

Ok rant over.

They are trolling you hard. Breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. Relax. :)

Know that half of the press will be trolling the 'not selected' possibility while the other half will be trolling the 'selected' possibility. But after the selection is made (or not made) then they will be 100% trolling that choice. No matter what the choice is I expect that Roughie will come out and hammer the trolls masterfully. He's principled, got little tolerance for BS and is quite quick on his feet. I'm really looking forward to his inevitable press conference this week.

If you need a farewell game you've been around too long.
Always go out on top, leave them wanting more.
Sad to see champs on their last legs.
Maybe, but I really enjoyed Hodge's last game in Melbourne (for us) in 2017 against the Doggies when Gibbo retired and Bob Murphy also played his last. It had a joyous, carnival atmosphere.

I went to that game, it was awesome. 50,000 at Etihad with perfect weather conditions. Both teams couldn’t make finals so we played free flowing footy that was great to watch. Atmosphere was electric when either team kicked a goal but in a more positive way.

Puzzling that his name isn’t questioned at Bomber land. The guy has been in the gig for 21 years and despite riding the coat tails of their 90s list management, and picking up our crumbs in recent years, he’s failed miserably at putting a team on the park that can regularly compete. They’ve been a joke for almost two decades and they still talk of him like the the messiah.
I said it on the man thread. He ain't the problem

He's the last of their problems.
Their trading in has been great. Saad should be AA. Devon Smith is quality. Stringer while a scumbag piece of s**t has been a top 4 player for them

Drafting has been fine.

They have had just some piece of s**t culture at the place. Where high preformance is a joke. Yeah sure people want to go and stay because outside of football you really do get looked after but they are one of the biggest frontrunner teams around. Coach is s**t but that's not the end of their issues. Ild be clearing out all those preformance managers, keep focusing on drafting defensive players like they have had last 2 year's and hopefully draper comes along

Wait. Actually no. I hope they just keep doing what they are doing.

I've had a cousin play for them and while he loves the club he's also said "there is an arrogance in there which is healthy and a hindrance"

Agree whole heartedly about Australians having a shocking tall poppy attitude. However in this case he played the race card, and I know for a fact crown have video and audio contradicting his claims. Probably why he deleted his rant so quickly.

Crown are the biggest campaigners on earth. Their staff are wet blankets and the security act like train police on ice. * crown - they deserve every piece of negative media they get.

YEah, I'm not a fan of Crown, and casinos in general. They are building a new one in Barangaroo on the waterfront. Not likely to ever set foot in it. I'm totally OK with clubs having pokies, but casinos are actually built to screw you out of money. Been to Star City here in Sydney a couple of times - underwhelming to say the least. Won't ever go back.

SO did Simmons actually get in or was he turned away? If he got in, what was he complaining about? Interesting thing is that it is generally not caucasians that are security at these places, so I doubt racism was the root cause of Simmons' problem.

Sounds like constructed racism used to promote implied racism

Hasn’t Rough been offered the game if he wants it ? ( might be wrong but that’s what I heard )
If he wants to play he will and if he doesn’t for whatever reason he won’t

Club can’t really win IMO in this scenerio.
Media will be lining to give us a slap for either not giving him the game or handing him the game not on merit/form .

BTW I hope he plays so I can go this Sunday and farewell the champ
And if decides not to play it’ll be written that Rough had been insulted from not given the opportunity earlier to play out his career and doesn’t want any charities.

Anyway, which ever way it pans out it won’t matter. Will forever be a Hawks legend. Just like Hodge, Lewis, Cyril, Sammy (even if he hadn’t returned) and to some degree Buddy (although that’s another story)

Edit: Speculation is over. Roughy calls it a day.

We used to, the Jordan Lewis chaos ball.
Backmen setup for a long kick into the forward line. This often results in an intercept mark as the backmen usually outnumber the forwards.

My idea is to intentionally kick in a top-spinner. No one expects it. Everyone thinks it will go long.
If the forwards know a top spinner is coming, they can rush to the front as the kick is delivered. The ball will drop in short and most times there will be an uncontested mark. If not, it will be a chaos ball with multiple players at the balls drop.

To win one must find something unexpected.

Think the walk over points in the 2008 GF = a rule change.
Think the shepard on the mark = an umpire change
Think the top spinner ball into the forward line = never been done before.

Rough will play and I expect Mitch Lewis as an out (needs a rest after knee and shoulder injuries)
Rough playing will also get more bums on seats.
It is in the best interests economically (more Hawks fans will turn up), socially (Hawk fans get to be at his last game) , and for a good result for Hawthorn (Hawthorn’s players will give a little extra for the game).

And Frankly, why the Fu+k not. We ain’t winning peanut this year. Let’s have some fun

Big test of the supporter base
Yeah/nah
Um no its not really, I'm old enough to have watched many a great player just wither on the vine in the past, just to play out their days in the reserves. Its really not a statement one way or another as someone said earlier if Rough was to play out his time at box hill and you felt inclined to give him a pat on the back for his service make sure you get to city oval and do so.
Like I said Ive watched players like Peter Knights play his last game in the reserves, it happens, just that we don't have a reserves competition as it was only changes this slightly.
Respect the big Rough and the way he has conducted himself, kudos.

NFL punters do this? its also harder to mark by your forwards too, and out ground guys arent dominant any more.
For mine i'd rather long kicking mids have a shot at goal and hope rather than to top of square and hope
