How is it that the Dogs get pumped every week particularly after beating WC yesterday going 8-3 yet Hawthorn are finished despite also being 8-3 having beat both the Dogs and WC.

We are being marked harshly this year considering personnel changes and injuries.

To be honest I'm happy flying under the radar at the moment.
Different trajectories. We are the reigning 3-time premiers who aren't sitting top of the table while they are perennial underdogs who are moving on up.

I think the media have clearly lost sight of the fact that we lost 3 senior premiership players at the end of last year, have not had Hodge or Roughead all year and have had key players missing most weeks.

This is a different list this year and you take Hodge/Rough equivalent out of any teams and they will struggle.

To be 8-3 having had 4 debutants and many other players of limited experience playing is a huge result and one that is being underrated by the media.

My Melbourne supporting mate rang after the game. He wanted to tell me how great his young team had played against the reigning premiers.

I told him "we had 6 players with less than 15 games" and he got pissed off!

I don't know if that was true, but it had the effect.

And reiwoldt made headlines because he told his players to get off the ground after they got belted. The love affair with Selwood is bizarre and yet hodge cops friggen "good bloke" grief all over the place
Selwood is completely self centred. One of his junior coaches labelled him uncoachable as he would do whatever he wanted rather than what the coach wanted him to do for the team. You can see it in the way he plays.

Reckon post footy he will be in allsorts with so many head hits.

Totally agree. But it's the same story of pessimism and doubt from the media. Different season, different reason.

2013: Hawks are chokers and they'll never beat the Kennett Curse.

2014: Hawks can't win without Buddy, and their injury list.

2015: Hawks are too old and too slow and won't last in the heat.

2016: Hawks can't win without Roughy, and they're too reliant on too few.

Obviously we've been winning without Roughy and while early we may have been too reliant on just a few earlier in the season those who were out of form are coming good and those younger players who were being carried are now lifting their fair share. The season is a marathon and we're an experienced runner holding the race winning pace. Media is just too focused on the romantic notion of underdogs finally coming good to objectively rate the Hawks. Not saying we're currently the best, but we are currently a lot better placed than they seem to think.

I actually think he is a bit weird, almost too driven, part of why he is a really sore loser. I often wonder if growing up with all those brothers who were also very good footballers made him a bit too competitive. Then again maybe you have to be a bit weird to be an elite sportsperson.

I think he has struggled this year with Danger coming into the side. Not sure whether it's perception or fact but it seems that way whenever I've watched them

Leigh Matthews saying interstate teams need to be 5 - 6 goals better to win the premiership.
You must have been a great, great coach, Leigh!

He might also have added "also helps to play Collingwood in Grand Finals."

An extra 10% salary cap helps as well hey Leigh

Considering up until this week the media had forgotten that Selwood carried that team for years without help and acted like Danger was going to carry them to the promised land I'm not surprised his ego has struggled

I did like how he treated "kingy" in the after game interview though. If his weirdness expands to regularly abusing those a$$clowns I will be happy.

you made me check. howe, stewart, tob & sicily would all be under 15 games. ceglar 41 games and hartung 37 games i think are the only others under 50 that played round 11.

its easy to forget that ceglar has only played 41, puts it more into perspective as to where he is at

Seriously can't believe that he didnt get anything for the time he grabbed strattons jumper and smack him in the face a few times, joke!
Karma fat boy.
He's out against North, too. Probably a worse situation for them than had he been suspended for his punches on Stratton's face.

Im loving this Hawkins suspensions.

Suck a fat one Porkins.

Long overdue. Porkins has used this tactic a few times since his attack on Stratton. I find the whole issue of you will get off if you grab a handful of jumper, before you deliver a short, sharp jab to your opponent's jaw. However the incident will be treated differently if you forget the jumper. Does that make sense?

ive given kudo's to the dogs, have had a shit run constantly losing blokes in the half back line due to injury and still manage some W's.

Let the media forget about us

I don't care that the dogs are getting credit, they have done well but it is amazing the contrast in running commentary between us and them.

Losing players off half back is one things but losing your CHF and Hodge is another on top of losing 3 seniors players at the end of last year, I really don't think Hawthorn is getting enough credit up to this point of the year.

Previous success has clouded peoples judgement, they just expect Hawthorn to be winning every game because they have won 3 on the trot but this is a different team now, Hale, Lake, Suckling, Hodge, Rough and other senior players (Mitch, Gibbo, Cyril, Frawley, Sheils, Hill) missing at different times have been replaced by TOB, Sicily, Ceglar, Howe, O'Rourke, Brand, Lovell and Stewart, to be 8-3 is a very good result.

Just look at how the ass has completely fallen out of Freo with injuries to key personnel.

People don't want to hear how well we are doing, they want to hear someone else will win it this year

Yes I know that, all they want to do is write us off which is fine, keep doing so but I just find it amazing that teams like Sydney are getting so much credit for being able to regenerate their list, they are flag favs, how good are they when all they have done is bring in 2 number 1 draft picks for a can of coke and a pack of twisties and have also had no significant injuries to speak of yet Hawthorn are finished.

We are in the process of regenerating the list with 2nd round selections and rookie picks yet are still in as good a position as any to be winning it.

Credit where credit is due I think.

Even I have been critical of our form this year but looking back on it we have done a pretty good job to get where we are.

Hawthorn doing well isn't a story, the story needs to be how someone else is going to finally win, we will never be held in the same light with the media because, we have played in the last 4 grand finals and won the last 3 flags and we are 8-3 this year, do you really think the footy pubic wants to read / hear about how this footy club is basically in the middle of a mini rebuild (with key players missing at various times) and at the half way point at 8-3? They don't want to know about it, people and the media are sick of us
