Hill was instrumental in our three-peat. Could even be in a four-peat.

Hard to begrudge him going home.

Just want to see him bleed for the jumper and help us win another flag.
Agree H2F, he has been great for us and i would be sad to see him go. Hopefully Clarko will get stuck into him and let him know he has to sacrifice everything for us to do a fourpeat because at the end of the day he is still contracted and we may not wish to let him go.

I've given it to him this year on here but last week we saw that we are a three plus better goal team with him in form.

He's been in preservation mode all year knowing he's going.

I have this feeling he'll crack in when it matters though and if he helps us win a four-peat who can begrudge him. The club want JOM and Mitchell and believe in Billy the Kid so let's all wait and see what happens. I just want that four-peat so bad. For the club, the players and most of all for Clarko.

Hard to begrudge him going home, easy to utterly roast him for going home home and laying out the mat, putting out the milk bottles and winding up the alarm clock while still living at someone else's house.

By the way did anyone else see the affection from the players with him for the first time all year last week?

He got spoken to by the playing group and responded.

He's so important to our four-peat and just sense he's gonna play a big role ...
Yeah it was great to see. He realizes he's had an average year with indiscretions of the field not helping his cause. Hopefully he has learnt from this and he can just put in a super effort for the remainder of the year knowing The Hawks will help him move back home.

I would love more than anything if we can do a fourpeat and Brad repays the faith Clarko and the boys have shown.

You will not get a better club than Hawthorn Bradley, they gave you a chance to be part of History, repay them back with intense aggression and strength for the rest of the year and help the club achieve the ultimate goal.

I don't begrudge him going home but I don't quite understand it. Homesickness, after five years over here? I can understand him being homesick early on but you'd think by now he would have overcome that.

My philosophy is if a player wants to go let them, nothing to be gained by being intractable about it. I'm sure we will negotiate a decent deal.

He's won three flags so for him more success may not be a motivation.
Add to that the troubles he has had off field in Melbourne and he may have soured on the town a little making him miss home more.
Then you have Clarko's comments that they tried unsuccessfully to get his brother to Hawthorn and you get a player who maybe just wants to go home and play with his brother as the only drive left in the game for him.
If that's the case I certainly don't begrudge him wanting that

I thought it was against the AFL rules to talk directly to a player who is under contract? Hill isn't even coming out of contract until end of 2017.
I think you're confusing this with offering a new contract to a player during the season. Contracted players and their agents talk to opposition clubs all the time, hence why you hear rumours of trades throughout the season. It's just normally done discretely which Hill probably tried to do but when you've got the media stalking players to get a story this is what happens.

A swap for Fyfe might get it done

Ah, I didn't know that Clarko had said that they had tried to get Stephen over but not succeeded. Not sure Perth would be the best place for him (given his off field troubles you alluded to), no better place than Hawthorn for mitigating things like that IMO. Still, he is an adult, he makes his own choices.

Kind of reminds me of when I worked in an office, if someone came to work in a suit you knew they had a job interview elsewhere at lunchtime ;) (either that or they were going to a funeral).

Agree, the players have to be able to have discussions but they should be discreet about it.

Yeah I might be. Still I have vague memories from a few years back of something like this happening and I thought it was stated that opposition clubs could only talk to the player via their agent during the season.

Either way, I'm sure our club does it too. Just thought it was weird nothing had been said about it yet.

Just watching he first few minutes of the Swine v Blues makes me appreciate how cool our boys are under pressure. Carlton are trying to play with skill but have no time to think which is leading to poor play after the smallest mistake. Our fellas play as if they are on a Sunday stroll. The Hawks are a step above.
