James hung around for ******* years, at least this young fella has the integrity to stand down!

He's in no way stood down.

He is continuing to train at Melrose Drive with the Essendon VFL team (he did so this evening), and access to all the same facilities and staff as the AFL team.

Essendon are playing slimy convenient semantics, something at which they excel.

There should never be any reference to the word integrity in association with that shit stain of a club.

What sort of name is Yestin...sheesh some parents hate their kids from a very young age
Would you prefer an indigenous person to have a name like John?
Sounds like the kid's had a tough life. Grew up with his dad behind bars and his mum in and out of jail.
Forget what club he's playing for, there's an increasing number of indigenous players falling out of the AFL system and it's a shame.

When you refuse to take accountability for your actions and behaviours you will spend your life forever defensive, untrusting and living in victimhood.
..I've been doing it for years.

Not a bad lifestyle but can be hell trying to find enough people to blame for your shit decisions.

That Danny Corcoran bloke is a fool. Complaining that him and Hird can't get a gig in football anymore. You've been struck off for complete negligence at best, and at worst.....well any club that would give either of these two a shot should be shut down, and that's any club from AFL to Tackers or even the Pub footy league in London. Your both complete shunned from footy and rightly so.

I don't think it's cynical at all, but rather naive if it hasn't crossed ones mind.

It sure makes for a story though. Maybe not one we really care for, but we're not the ones driving it. Camp Hird are.
The cynicism is in the public playing of the martyr card by the Hirdites and their attempt to (as always) deflect blame for Hird's condition away from James and onto someone else.
Apparently James is now in the "very good place" in which he finds himself because mean people have been picking on him, NOT because he put his career and reputation through the shredder with the choices He made.

The cynic in me wonders if James did this so he can now play the victim.

He has tried to pretend he was not responsible and no one listened, maybe this was his subconscious way of garnering sympathy and support.
That's not all that ridiculous, or overly cynical. In fact it would make a lot of sense. It would be similar to a caregiver suffering from Munchausen by Proxy. But instead of hurting others for attention and/or sympathy, it's done to oneself. That, however, wouldn't make it any less serious or tragic. Regardless of the motive, the thought process that eventuates in self harm, for whatever reason, is torturous...

We need to remember that the terms "mental illness" or "mental health" cover an extremely broad spectrum...

One individual is "socially awkward", another needs to wash their hands twenty times a day, and another hears voices telling them to kill their family...

They all fall under the umbrella of mental illness.
And that's only a small section of the spectrum. There are cases that span further to each edge of it.

It's not like being pregnant, where you either are or you're not. Mental health isn't definitive. Where and when, does a human behaviour go from a slight variation to a psychological issue? Some psychological conditions afford people extraordinary talents or abilities, whilst they can't perform the simplest of tasks, like tying their shoelaces. So when does the condition go from being an advantage to a disadvantage? And who decides?

Is sadness the same as depression? Is a bad temper, psychotic behaviour? When does a fear become a phobia? When does lethargy become CFS? Is your conscience merely a mild form of schizophrenia? We still don't know with any certainty. Don't forget, Homosexuality was once considered a "curable" mental condition. We're always learning...

So whatever has happened to James, whatever people think of him. He's arrived at a difficult and painful destination, regardless of the journey that got him there...

does this long-winded thought piece have a point? why do people feel the need to write war & peace in order to have an opinion?

there are no other teams worthy
One line posts are not always adding much communication. Although I can understand a person on a phone is not willing to bother with much more. Sometimes War and Peace is great. Sometimes you want a snack. Sometimes you want a three course meal.
Diversity. Not a bad thing.

I got no problem with them not being involved in footy. They blew it. Having said that, if someone wants to give them a second chance and they have remorse for past mistakes, got no problem with that too. Just not at my club thanks.
