That's my point when I talk about our supporters, they feel that because of the last 15 years they'll only join as members when we are making prelims/GFs consistently like the "Good Old" days.

They're stuck in their self righteous, holier than thou weirdo world when winning premierships is infinitely harder than at any time in history.

I honestly think a lot don't get that.

Wouldn't dare...
I think it's a mentality of only giving the club money when they have sufficiently earned it, as opposed to supporting the club through memberships as well as just nominally being a Carlton supporter. I know a few people who were very serious supporters up until the mid-noughties, but refuse to even go to games now.

Spot on. Just call the game. We don't want egos.
Drew had it all. Called the names right, called the play to perfection, had the right range of enthusiasm when commentating.

Last week we had some clown call Byrne, Glass......it's getting more and more regular that these guys don't really know what they're doing, hence have to resort to other means of calling games, by masking their deficiencies with hyperbole and dad-gags.

I'm shocked at the sudden death of Drew Morphett. He was a premier sports commentator who was comfortable describing many sports. I've read the initial reactions of Wallsy and Sellers and the respect and warmth in their comments demonstrate the respect he garnered. We had his eagle eye all year round and I'm sure the Skull will be waxing lyrical about Drew.

For me it will always be The Winners on the ABC. What a great idea! Editing the footy to cut out the boring bits. To reprise it on Fox Footy was a master stroke as well.

RIP Drew Morphett. I'll miss your crazy hair, the wide lapels on your jacket, your shirt and tie combinations and your love of sport. Say hello to Harry, Tommy, Butch and Teddy for me.

Absolutely shocked to read of Drew's passing. Such a great commentator who called the game on its merits & had no agendas in his calls.

Channel 7 & Fox Footy should make all their commentators sit & listen to how Drew called the game & then insist they call the game the same way. This may reduce the number of viewers who watch the game with the volume turned right down.

there are no other teams worthy
Certainly the eyes got watery hearing Tim Lane talk about his old Winners partner at ABC in Drew.
I loved his genuine enthusiasm that shone through in his commentating. It is something I miss bad in today's
Luke Darcy style, everything hyped up nonsense.
