I would struggle with the concept of cheering on a player in navy knowing he'd be playing in another jumper the following season.
Difference over at NRL land is that there is no draft or trading, a player picks a team and they get there no issues at all.

It's so very different in AFL unless you're an unrestricted free agent.

It works for NRL because they know the lay of the land early and can work on getting a replacement knowing full well there are no barriers if the player they're chasing agrees.

I think we need to get more mature with free agents though, I'm sure if Richmond lose Martin they would have loved the opportunity to get into Kelly's ear much earlier.

Is there anything more boring in football than those ridiculous 'Will he stay or go' speculation interviews??

If there's one thing where NRL craps all over our code, they get it out the way early, and get on with the real stuff.
Well we all saw the reaction with Henderson and his bruise free footy when he was leaving for the hand baggers.
How would you feel if Casboult or Cripps announced in May that they were heading off to another club for the next season? It wouldn't be tolerated.
Rugby League and Rugby supporters are used to it, because in these codes, players change clubs like they change underwear. It is not unusual for players to have played at 3, 4 or 5 clubs. Brett Kimmorley played at six clubs. Where does he hang his hat? Look at Aaron Woods from the West Tigers. He announced he is playing at Canterbury next season, but states that he is giving his all for the West Tigers. Mentally he has already checked out.

Apparently Dusty has re-signed on

1.3 mill per year over 7
As much as I dislike cheering for anything Richmond I'm actually happy for them. Probably will go down as one of their best ever players, losing him would have been a massive blow to their fans, especially if it was to a club like North Melbourne where his talents would have been wasted.

I called it in the other thread last week about Dusty except I was out by 50k. Thought Richmond would keep him to that 7-year deal but at 1.25.

As soon as it was rumored that Dusty was being paid by The Footy Show to appear tonight it was very obvious that he'd agreed to re-sign. Otherwise, it would have been a public case of tampering.

Well played, Richmond.

On the other hand, I can now see North very quickly becoming Melbourne circa 2009 to 2013. Even with that rule where you can go over the salary cap in a year after you haven't gone to 100% of the cap you still have to get to a minimum percentage of the cap. Nobody of any stature will want to play for them. Their kids aren't that great coming through. They're going to be forced to pay massive overs to get to the minimum.
