What’s the obsession with drop punts, Talking in play or set shots??

Hudson and Wade kicked near on 1800 goals between them kicking flat punts.

Pretty sure the ball hasn’t changed shape.

Whatever works, works.
We aren't talking about revolutionaries here, we are talking about people who are crap kicks. I.e. trying to kick a drop punt but can't

My point is there are dozens of blokes that haven't masterd the drop punt but can still play a role .
I beg to differ. These players can kick drop punts but struggle under pressure. They get criticised for it. Even the great Chris Judd copped it for his kicking.

The difference is these girls can't kick a drop punt at training and aren't willing to work on it. Because everyone keeps telling them how fantastic they are.

With AFLW, I certainly don’t expect the skills I see in the senior men’s comp. Nor do I expect to see that level of skills at a local O&M game, but it’s still a game of footy and I like watching footy when both teams are red hot at the ball. And that happens in the AFLW.

Proving my point. Fundamental problems:

Lack of critisim, excuses, lack of scrutiny, unshakable belief it will get better

As I have been saying, from what I have seen, they don't practice the fundamentals. They go through their paces with shocking technique and there is next to no scrutiny from anyone.

I had a kick to kick and they were missing me from 10m away by up to 15m. Kicking tumble punts etc, atrocious. Then getting nothing but praise.

I've seen girls from younger age groups and it's the same story.

Look at the people on this forum. It's almost blasphemous to offer a negative opinion. An opinion which will hold them in better stead in the long run if assumed by the majority mind you. An opinion which is promoting a practice which is unanimously accepted in men's football.

The reality is that while the skills will improve somewhat ( though our girls were able to spot up targets and maintain possession when it counted) the critics will never be satisfied.

For me I don’t care about the standard as we just beat Collingwood and think it will play a part in reinvigorating the footy club

Interesting isn't it?
Not one 'like' for a point of view My name geoff is putting forward, but plenty for the snide remarks in retaliation.

How has this board been allowed into fall into a state of what seems to me to be, disrepair?
Who's to blame? Why would have they allowed it to follow this path? Interesting.

How has one ring-leader been allowed to hijack thought and open expression?
Why do the minions follow blindly singing the same 'cult' song?

Where have all the good posters gone from this board? The ones that thought for themselves and had something to say, even if it didn't please all?

So many questions. So few answers.

My observation from the AFLW system is at this stage, there is not nearly enough critisim on the girls, where warranted, for it to develop into a proper competition.

This forum is reflecting the type of attitude I observed at club level.

The result: girls who have been playing football as long as most boys still haven't mastered the drop punt.
Ok so it seems that you are equating a "proper" competition with less "molly coddling" of the players. (For want of a better term)
This "molly coddling" is a definite trend in the afl too if modelled against coaching of a bygone era.
I fail to see the relevance of your criticism.
You have taken a stance and now having great trouble vindicating it.
There has been nothing but total commitment from the girls I have observed in the AFLW, towards skill development, strength and fitness, building knowledge and a winning culture that would in anyway align with your idea that the girls have a sense of entitlement and don't need to learn how to kick.
You are beginning to embarrass yourself Geoff.

Who is the ring leader of this joint??
Thylacine, of course.

He's the individual that made the point of not going to listen to future podcasts, unless there was a female involved.
Think about that for a minute. Think about the agenda-drive involved? Why was that post necessary?

Again, objectivity and critical thinking isn't in vogue here. Agenda is.
It may seem to be cool to be saying all the right things to gain wider-spread approval, but it's not fair to this board as a whole.

Why have all the good football posters going....going.....gone. It's unfortunate when rolling dad jokes are what the mods want here.

No doubt this post will 'self-destruct' in 5 minutes, as many others have, but oh well.

Oh please Harker....
You cant like a post if you dont like it and if as a poster you dont agree, it's best to say so. Label me minion if you like but Geoff is off the mark here and I don't suffer from group-think for pointing that out.

I feel sorry for AFLW. They should never of been forced to play on the same sized field and with the same size ball (correct me if I am wrong). It should of been taylored to their physical abilities.
Even though it is way off what I am used in terms of speed/skill, I watched pretty much all of our games last year and enjoyed Friday nights game. They are wearing our jumper after all, and without a doubt giving their all.
Some of the women have great skills, such as the Hosking twins. Rarely fumble and choose and hit right targets, very impressive. Then you have Vescio who hit teammates with absolutely sublime delivery.
The problem is that there is not enough of a spread in that level of talent and that is what drags it down. But it is very early in the AFLW developement phase and that cannot be avoided.
I think reducing the size of the ground and the amount of players (helping lift the overall skill level) would be beneficial.
And for what it is worth they all go in hard when its their turn.

The insane high levels of criticism Levi cops for his kicking have helped him soooooo much. It’s a fundamentally flawed argument and archaic coaching style that simply doesn’t work.

If you fail to see the relevance of my point then you and everyone else here should enjoy spending the next 15 years trying to silence all the ridicule which will be levelled at the AFLW.

If you can't comprehend that what I am telling you is an educated, objective assessment, then unfortunately you are probably blinded by the same agenda HARKER is referring to.

From today's HUN:-

This is a feel good story for the AFL and kudos to the the young girls jumping on board to play our great game.
However the Afl has stuck its head in the sand with the number of young boys dropping out of the game in the 15 yo age group. A large number of clubs will go from 3- 4 younger teams of the same age group to struggling to muster an U/ 16 team.

Talk about agenda.........what are you peddling here cos it certainly is off topic.
Do you think the AFLW is doomed for lack of genuine criticism?
