I doubt any club (let alone any employer I have ever worked for) is equipped to deal with problems of the magnitude Reece is dealing with.
Correct but I think the AFL as a league needs to be better equipped.

More and more players are popping up with issues and I doubt the AFL does enough. You only have to remember how far behind the times they were with Cousins' drug abuse.

There's certainly a lot of anger there - hard to tell whether RFC is a genuine contributor or just a convenient scapegoat that the young bloke has fixated on.

Hope he can get himself back on track regardless of the origin of the issues.

Feel for Reece, he's still so young and obviously been through a lot. I know very little about it all so I'm going to make a rare internet decision and stay neutral and hope both parties the best. Not the sort of thing you have opposition banter about.

From what he himself has said, his problems predated his time at Richmond. As much as it's the responsibility of a club to look after their players, they're certainly not a Welfare and Rehabilitation program for all wayward footballers. At some point in time, if he couldn't find his way, the club was always going to have to cut ties - it's easy to point the finger at Richmond for not doing enough for him, but I think the best thing for him will be to seek professional, private help away from a high-pressure team environment. Best of luck to him.

I really hope the young bloke can find peace in his life and overcome all the hurdles and demons in his life, but sadly you'd assume his tirade will cost him any chance of being picked up by another AFL club if he has a complete recovery (if that is the right term) from his current mental health/emotional issues.

Sad situation all up, clubs are now more and more making psychological assessments of potential young draftees and their mental state, i read last year a club passed on an TAC Cup player they planned to take in the first round because their recruiter visited his house and saw he had a messy bedroom (which i thought was a bit silly)

This isn't the former Richmond player to publicly rip the club, Dan Connors has gone to town on them and Hardwick several times.

Just saw the whole thing. Hell of a serious whack if I have ever seen one directed at a club.

One person in particular to boot.

This... the AFL is not really equipped to deal with someone with serious mental health issues. They are used to dealing with guys who use mental health issues to get to another club and are not setup to handle guys who might want to kill themselves... or who try to kill themselves. How is their grief handling methods for all the players if one player kills himself because of severe depression.

The AFL has a habit of trying to sweep problems under the carpet and put it back onto the players themselves to sort out. Their 3 strikes drug policy is the biggest joke in world sports and if they can't deal with drugs, how the hell can they be expected to deal with people with serious mental health issues.
