i seriously cant believe the scum would be that stupid. surely in view of their previous history the AFL should impose considerably larger fines.
The AFL have never punished them for running a club sanctioned systematic doping program.
Their only punishment through the saga was for poor governance .
The AFL are more concerned with pushing the duped heroes returning narrative than their continued breaches of any drug codes .

The Dopers are still in denial. Don't be surprised if they get caught up in another similar scandal in the future. They know they have the AFL in their pocket therefore have nothing to fear.

Depends what colour glasses u wear. Checked out the Yarran thread on the RFC board n they frothing over his most recent pics. As a past personal trainer, i would say he's gained about 7-10% body fat which would equate to a loss of 5-10kg's of muscle. As a professional athlete that is horrendous. If he makes an impact in 2017 I'll eat my hat. Quick google search of him wearing cfc colours will show u how bad of shape he is currently in. Is sad really.
Apparently kicking a goal against Carlton will cure his depression. He will break down again.

I am not one that would ever defend Essendon but I can see how these things can happen. Have a read of Jimmy Bartel's article below and he basically says you have to let the club know your whereabouts during the off season which is fair enough. But I am sure most of us have been traveling and made a change to our travel plans on a whim whether it was staying in a place a couple of extra days or heading off to somewhere not origianlly planned. The AFL players have to let their club official know straight away.

I know they are well paid and its their job to let club officials know but I can see how it could slip their mind.

I've always thought, there's no price too high, no sacrifice too great, to play a game you love, full time, and get paid exceptionally well for it...

But seriously, having to report your whereabouts 24/7 to ANYONE, seems a little over the top. Not to mention, impractical.

I understand why it's necessary, but Surely there's room for a little common sense...

So you mean these players go hiking through the remote rainforests of Borneo in the offseason and there's some AFL investigator waiting to take their piss when they get back to camp? Are they taking the piss?

So if they're at a friend's house and have a couple more beers than they were expecting, do they need to text the AFL at 2am to let them know they're staying the night?
If they are in the same city then i don't think its a problem but I take it if you put on your sheet that you are going to be Melbourne but have decided to head up to Bendigo for the day/night and not tell the person responsible at the club then that's where you get caught out.

what do you reckon would happen if this wasn't the case? swanny talked about his binges where he marked on the calendar gaps between training and matches - and that's just the grog - it can't work any other way

Text the club, not the AFL. It'd be the player welfare manager or something.

I'd suggest if they planned on drinking they'd mention they'd be in one of two places the next day.

Right that would make sense.

The policy in theory is a good one. No doubt, anything that keeps the game clean, and more importantly, deters young men from taking drugs, is a positive...

What I'm struggling with, because I'm ignorant of the details, is what constitutes a breach....

Does a player have to literally contact the club when he goes to the shops for an hour?

Is it a case of the player being uncontactable by phone?

Is there a time frame? Eg. You have two hours to make yourself available?

It's just a little unclear from the limited information we have. My original comment was that, hopefully, a little common sense is applied before players, young men, have their names tarnished...

By the way. If a player has done the wrong thing, and is genuinely trying to avoid being found out, by all means, he should be punished. No problem there.

Watson has handed his medal back.

About time.
The AFL should have stripped him of the tainted medal.

He has made it easy for them now. Decision made!

Jobe Watson hands back 2012 Brownlow Medal

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-11-11/jobe-watson-hands-back-2012-brownlow-medal

JOBE Watson will hand back his 2012 Brownlow Medal.

Due to face the AFL Commission on Tuesday to present a submission why he should keep the medal, the Essendon star has instead made the decision with "mixed emotions" to return it.
