That's all fine and the club has plenty of the weight to bear for all that came about......and as good a guy Jobe may be.....he also made some big errors of judgement, whether for listening to Hird, Tim Watson or anyone else for that matter.

He was the captain but didn't do captain-like things, when his boys needed him most.
The medal could never have remained with him and he really should have allowed the AFL to take possession of it until such a time as the air cleared......and even there....the air has been clear for some time. Another error of judgement by a nice guy.

Uh huh... sure...

Here's what happened...

The AFL went to Jobe and said, "We're going to have to take your medal back next week. Give it back now and you'll come out of this smelling roses."

The end.
That sounds more like it.

I'm shocked to be handing it back!

Can't believe there are people calling him "honourable". He deliberately cheated and despite the Swiss court handing down their decision, still didn't hand it back. Now he has a sudden change of conscience... ha. Right.
To be honest, i think it is bit of a twisting of tge facts to imply he delilerately cheated, guilty of being naive and gullible sure, but lets be honest, and i don't think it's really fair to judge him so harshly, the bloke had to get away from Australia for 12 months because of the fallout of the doping scandal.

At the end, he has done the right thing, its pretty easy to say, oh Jobe handed it back before it was taken away, but you can also say, as i do, he actually made the call out of common decency and respect, and saves the AFL commission from negative PR.

And from the sounds of it, Jobe had been wrestling with the decision for months, i'm prepared to cut him some slack

Naive and gullible?

He deliberately kept it quiet from ASADA officials, and kept Dr Reid out of the loop. Considering these footballers get anti-doping education and the fact he's in a position of great responsibility, he'd know better than most.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

But where do you draw the line with PED's. The only way it can be controlled is if the individual athlete questions what is being put in their body. Jobe didn't do that, and as a leader of the club, nor did he do it on behalf of the other guys either.

Nice guy - probably.

But using terms like 'integrity' and 'class', let alone 'brave' and 'heroic' is a bit much for me.

He didn't earn it fairly, regardless how that came about.

Watson having the medal removed was the only acceptable outcome which should have been mandated by the AFL as soon as the guilty verdict was handed down. They could have reinstated it if the subsequent appeal was successful.

Leaving a prestigious medal in the hands of a convicted drug cheat has tarnished it. Letting Watson decide whether he deserved it or not has tarnished the AFL. Letting * off without sanction has tarnished the industry.

Don't think anyone is arguing that the 2012 Brownlow was tainted, and shouldn't be stripped, but i just don't think the demonizing of Jobe is neccesary, i certainly won't see him in the same tainted light as Lance Armstrong or Olympic Dopers, i do feel sorry for the bloke, don't see any need to sink the boots into him, put it that way.

My wife is a B badged umpire who has attended regional academy trainings with girls as young as 13. They all get it hammered into them from day one that they are responsible for every substance put into their bodies. Them. No one else. If you don't know what is in it, don't take it until you have checked.

If grown men cannot understand that, it won't be for lack of education about the issue.

Naive would be a 13 year old kid having the wrong sports drink on game day if it is allowed during the week. Grown men having multiple injections away from the watchful eyes of the club without the club doctors sanction is a deliberate acceptance of responsibility for what is in the syringe.

If Watson had accepted the guilty verdict and handed back the medal pending the appeal, I would have some sympathy for him. Handing it back because there is no option to keep it is like resigning during a meeting where you are being sacked.

I know you like to see the good in reformed sinners, can't agree Watson gets any brownie points for an inevitable outcome when he should have acted months ago.

Quite simple - suck sh!t drug cheat!

The CAS showed that this drugs saga was a premeditated, club-wide, co-ordinated scheme with COMPLETE buy in from the playing group.

The players knew before the injections started, knew what they were doing and actively participated in the cover up.

Jobe, why did you forget to declare your injections on your doping control form? Why did your other 17 teammates who completed doping control forms also fail to disclose what they were receiving from this program?

You all simply (conveniently) forgot? All of you???

Filthy rotten drug cheats the lot of them. Great day for clean sport

Apparently it is too much to ask of a professional organization to spell-check documentation before releasing it to the public.

Bunch of ******* amateurs.

Who is to say that people wouldn't have reacted the same to Jobe handling the medal back 6 months ago as they are now.

At the very least he did fess up and apologize, in my book that does count for something (unlike Hird or Lance Armstrong)
