No, despite who he plays for or whatever people think of him as a player at least Cotchin wasn't banned for being a drug cheat. Watson was found to be a drug cheat the year he won it. Should have never been allowed to keep it the moment the was suspended, besides it also means we have to square up to Sam Mitchell and label him 'undeserving' as well and I doubt many would be comfortable doing it.
Mitchell, definitely a deserving recipient...

But honestly, I'd rather a cheat have the medal than a Richmond player who is mentally yogurt.... At least, whilst cheating, Watson played good footy. Cotchin is barely at AFL level....

I hate Richmond as much as the next Carlton fan but really? Open both eyes.

If we were judging Cotchin based on finals, certainly, I could agree with you. But we're judging him on his 2012 home and away form. He was bloody sensational that year. He was consistently very, very good too. He only had a single game that he was held to under 20 disposals (37 point win against the Power where he had 18 possessions).

He thoroughly deserved his Brownlow. It's a shame it'll always be a tainted medal.

Whitfield handling 'did not conform with club protocols', says Giants

GREATER Western Sydney has moved to distance itself from suspensions to Lachie Whitfield and former club officials, saying their actions "did not conform with clearly established club protocols".

It has been reported the Giants will fight any attempts by the AFL to strip them of draft picks for their part in the episode.
Good luck with that one GWS.
Blame the people you employed.............but your hands are clean.

Keen on seeing how the AFL handle this, given what we heard from Gil yesterday.
This should have all been wrapped-up already......Whitfield gets his punishment....Allan his....Lambert his....and GWS theirs. Why hasn't this happened?

You may want to have another shot at that one coach. :)

Watson is a convicted cheat. I'd rather a loaf of bread win the Brownlow than a cheat. Cheating goes against everything I teach my own kids and those I coach at Auskick.
Whether, in your assessment, Cotchin is the equivalent of a loaf of bread shouldn't overtake the fact that he played within the rules in 2012. I pity both he and Mitchell because this will follow them their whole careers with people making assessments as to whether they deserve to have a Brownlow (less so Mitchell) or not and they did nothing wrong.

I think you're a little off on this one coach.

Spot on Harks.

The AFL can not do anything without dragging it out til the cows come home because they wheel and deal more than a used car salesman convention.

Draft day is next week and they are still tossing up what to do?

As for the Brownlow to Cotchin and Mitchell, they obviously deserve their medals but it would be nice if the media was to recognise that they have really been cheated of the glory and acclaim that that should have been theirs instead of banging on about the bravery of the bloke that cheated them out of it.

Poor form by Jobe not to have apologised to them but in keeping with how he has behaved throughout. Big difference between courage and denial, as well as grace and disgrace.

“I think Jobe’s actually enhanced the award by doing what he did.
“In respecting the values of the competition and putting the interests of the game before his own, Jobe has shown his commitment to fair play — the qualities of a champion."

Seriously Fitzy, you must be joking...He would have gained a lot more support and respect if he had handed it back 3 years ago when he and his club were under scrutiny of cheating and not wait until a few days before the AFL were going to take it back anyway. He was probably fore warned as were *FC when they "confessed" to their "supplements" program.

I dislike having to listen to that horse-shit.....and it's not just the Commission but for all the commentators blindly jumping on board the Watson train.

It's also really not nice for an organization to be feeding that sort of disingenuous crap to the public. Downright rude if you ask me.

SEN must have been sick of all the text messages I sent them yesterday, when the same disingenuous dribble flowed from their mouths.

The Commission should have discussed the matter before the appeal was handed down and stripped Watson the day it was thrown out. Would have cut 4 weeks should they/shouldn't they articles. Like pulling off a band aid. Do it quickly and get it over and done with.

Yep, have switched from main stream media dribble stations who idolize the Watson's for their good bloke nature and how brave the *FC are.

I'm not knocking Jab and Tim, they may be genuinely great people and I believe they are, but they have had the wool pulled over their eyes by their club, the golden child and a snake oil salesman. They may believe that Jab did nothing wrong intentionally, but under the WADA code where athletes are responsible for everything they put into their bodies, well, ignorance doesn't become an excuse.

If he had come out from the start and thrown the club under the bus and said, "I believe I have not done anything untoward and the club was following strict WADA protocol, however I will hand in the medal until this matter is sorted" he would have a lot more sympathy and respect from the greater football public than just *FC members and the Watson media fan club.

Agree, Imagine if Jobe Watson was a russian athelete Ivan Watsonski and Sam "the Knee" Mitchell and Trent "the Finals Yeti" Cotchin good clean Australian Olympians and they finished equal second to Watsonski who won gold but was later disqualified because of a team instituted doping program. I would hope they both would share in the gold no matter if both had the public support of Trump at a Mexican Green party rally.

Yes, seems the media is only anti drug cheats when they are our drug cheats. Hypocrisy in action.

And people seriously expected this dropkick to actually severely punish Essendon? Joke's on them.

I couldn't GAF if he was a past Carlton champion, the way he's handled this has been beyond abysmal.

He's part of a commission, and I think you're getting confused as to why he's unpopular in some AFL circles.

Keep in mind this is the same bloke who walked out of Elliot's administration at the CFC due to how he was handling things.

Fitzpatrick is an utter disgrace .
Too think some here wanted him as Carlton president ...
