Dogs have a few personalities who are in danger of getting too far ahead of themselves. If they can resist drinking their own bath water they have a chance.

The effort of guys like Stringer over the preseason will be telling.

Watching a game of the NT wet season competition (that sounds dirty, it really isn't). Not sure when the game actually happened, but Courtney Dempsey was going absolutely spare at the umpires - reported and then one or two fifties after that, all in the first half. Would have thought his time in the AFL would have stamped that kind of behaviour out.

So freakin brave .... such a courageous decision Jobe Kudos to you...... a true leader .....

Courageous ?. Coming making a big comeback? Like from a drug suspension !!!

Has there ever been a team less sure of defending its title than the Dogs? Discuss.
What they did in that finals series will never be replicated. They're a good side, talented, well coached, but those four wins were pure will and determination... To sustain that, the way they did for a month had nothing to do with "structures" or "processes".
I don't think they'll go back to back. That's not to say it's completely out of the question. But they definitely can't do from 7th again. That was a one off...

Wouldn't say never...the post final bye really helped them and levelled the playing field. Before that no team outside top 4 won the premiership and not having that rest would have been a big reason.

Also both Geelong and GWS won their first final but lost in the prelim. Possible having 2 breaks was detrimental.

You're spot on. The introduction of that bye definitely changed things...

I meant more along the lines of, the Dogs weren't/aren't a powerhouse team. Say like the Hawks have been or Geelong before them. If either of those two had somehow finished 7th under the same circumstances, you could justifiably, still back them to go all the way...

The Dogs are a good side, but they're 7th place finish was a fair reflection of where they were at, especially considering the injuries they had... The way they stormed home, the sides they beat and the way they did it, was completely unexpected to say the least...
