Voters seem to change their logic yearly.

Curnow wasn't as good as Hogan when he won so not saying he deserved it but find it amusing how all the voters seemed to rate midfielders higher this time around.

Certainly wasn't the case with Cripps.

McGrath had a great first year but I feel like Burton stood out more and did harder things in a messy defence as a tall.

It wasn't really a clear gap though. They were fairly even in most categories. Personally I'd flip a coin between Burton and McGrath for 1-2 (either one could feel robbed but both worthy), clearly ahead of Curnow and SPP who you could flip a coin again for 3rd and 4th.
If Charlie had played like he did in the 2nd half of the year for the whole season, he'd be on level pegging with the first two. Only missed 3rd narrowly, so good result by him.

I think the majority of the footy media & footy followers had Burton as the winner, but one cannot underestimate how corrupt the AFL are prepared to be when it comes to the Dopers.

The way the Dopers were able to top up their list after the suspensions were handed down was the first sign that the AFL were going to give them every possible leg up that they could. Then of course they were happy to reward the Dopers with a #1 draft pick after finishing last as a result of being found guilty of cheating.

The AA team selection, with 3 of the drug cheats being rewarded & now the RS Award just serves to demonstrate that the AFL still refuse to accept the Dopers cheated. They still rely on the whitewash which was the AFL Tribunal when passing judgement on the Dopers. Thank goodness for WADA & CAS, otherwise nothing would have been done to the cheats.

I see Essendon are continuing to be compensated for the inconvenience for having to actually serve the punishment for their crimes.

That ir Ron Evans is able to manipulate things from beyond the grave.
