Saad was a sacrificial lamb in hindsight, in an afl attempt to make an example of coming down hard. Easy when it's a small club and a relatively unknown player.

8 weeks would be a relative travesty

Saad had a positive test, not much can be done when you have emphatic proof that a performance was enhanced in a sporting sense. Same scenario with Keefe and Thomas from the Pies for testing positive.

3 tests, 3 positive results, 3 players banned; career over.

The Bombers and Whitfield like many before them and many after them will have scuttlebutt and relative doubt, which they still have despite the fact that the Bombers players were given suspensions, and at least the common viewpoint is they did the deed as well; there is no proof, it's been shredded, lost, "I cannot recall.."ed away to state emphatically.

Although Jobe did go on camera admitting to taking a banned substance at the time (S0 - catch all banned), so from the horses mouth he's at least 100% a drug cheat, so was going to be stripped of the Brownlow whilst it still holds some small amount of credence that Woewodin didn't bleach away.

I don't think Jobe is the bad guy here, and his "confession" was simply being upfront and realistic. I don't believe he thought he was cheating at the time the Bombers administered the gear.

In the Collingwod thread on the main board, someone asked them what they thought their back 6 would look like next year and the first response was:

sinclair, dunn , maynard
howe, keef , reid

Could you imagine if that is really their best back 6, or even close to it!? I haven't seen a lot of them this past year or two, but the full-back line in particular looks appalling!

George Constanza was discussing the AFL with Jerry Seinfeld when suddenly James Hird butted in and said Jobe should keep the medal...

Jobe voluntarily hands back the brownlow.
Everybody gather round. He's a hero.
Good move by Watson. By giving back in advance of what could be the only tenable decision by the Afl he gets to look good, state he is innocent again and will no doubt always be called the brownlow medalist by the AFL bogan leading personalities who refuse to accept a footballer should be responsible for anything in their lives.

I was actually thinking it's not as dire as I thought. They don't really suffer from a lack of height and probably better than I expected. I actually think Lynden Dunn is a pretty good footballer and while limited he probably suits modern footy more than Brown. Reid is good but can't be relied upon due to injury, Howe probably like Dempster for us, wins the ball in the air and Keeffe was going pretty well before he stuffed up. Maynard and Sinclair are the weakest links and really don't have a heap of quality rebound run. There was talk of sending Moore back but then they are light up front. We had a super light backline this year and actually did well so they might actually be okay of someone can provide some run.

I still think Watson is a class act. And Hird's reaction to the news proves that Hird is anything but. He's still waiting for his natural justice. Why did people think he was smart? He's a dumb schmuck who pretends to be smart.

James Hird still living in lala-land.

"Jobe never did anything wrong! Essendon never did anything wrong! Stephen Dank is a national treasure! I'm a premiership coach!!!! We won the flag last year!!!!!!!!!!! :drunk: "

"THE DOPER"

"I sense great vulnerability. A man-child crying out for love. An innocent orphan in the post-modern world."

"I see a parasite. A sexually depraved miscreant who is seeking only to gratify his basest and most immediate urges."

"His struggle is man's struggle. He lifts my spirit."

"He is a loathesome, offensive brute. Yet I can't look away."

"He transcends time and space."

"He sickens me."

What was Hird's reaction?

Let's not forget Watson was the only one who admitted to taking banned substances on tv. He claimed that he wasn't meant to know. He was. In a way, he's more culpable than any of the others.

Here's hoping Collingwood finish bottom four next year . I can't understand the logic of getting rid of Brown and replacing him with Dunn unless they have a gun kid like a Goddard who they think will be full back in the next year or two . If they miss the finals again will that be it for Buckley ? Or would they give him another year? I still can't decide is he a decent coach or not ? What do other people think about Buckley?

See above.

I think the Pies have looked at team playing the run and gun style footy and decided that a stagnant stopper is less necessary now. Dunn has a bit more mobility so may be more suited to that game plan. Reid and Brown have been pretty injury prone too. They do seem to have lost a lot of talls down back though. I still think they lack a Heath Shaw replacement more now with Marley William leaving.

What was the issue with Williams?

He seemed to be at an acceptable standard to me. Partner's dad is a massive Collingwood man, he thought he was good.

Used to annoy the crap out of me that he gets celebrated as a feel good comeback story, but Milne is still hated to this day.

Dunn is OK, probably the smartest bit of Collingwood recruiting this year.

He went backwards last year and was a pretty average kick but he was still better than nothing. He assaulted someone in Perh but that was years ago...maybe he's got a few more issues coming?

Wasn't Dunn struggling to get a game at Melbourne ? He can't be that good then .

Melbourne seemingly preferred younger players with a bit more scope to develop into a more versatile game this year, but Dunn still has something to offer at AFL level in the right role.

Not a world beater, but Collingwood needed to get somebody in.

Melbourne had a play the kids policy under Roos. Plenty of that era were out at Casey while they played Mc Donald and co into form. He was playing excellent VFL footy still and he was one of their better seniors.

The pies now have no functional backline. Their stuffed. They wont play finals and Bucks wont be coaching in 18. Maybe thats what their counting on and this is their way of hedging. Top 5 pick this year and possibly Roosy or their eyeing off someone else.

They have stacked themselves for a finals tilt and if they don't have injuries he's gone. They should have been a shoe in this year but they were awful. It could go either way, on paper they look okay but they don't show it on field.
