No I set it at GF because you cant win if you aren't in them. And after 141 years we still have only won one. I missed 1966 but I loved the week before 2009 and 10 more than any other week ive had in footy. I do know if we had a side as good as 2004 to 2006 we would have certainly won a GF or two.
Would have loved to see the
G-Train play in a grand final for us.

we've made grand finals... just making another one isnt going to cut it IMO

the bar is well and truly winning one. ross lyons time was a failure IMO, it set as further back in trying to grab one

A failure? Are you serious? And it did set us back but it was worth every second of the ride. If we were a club that had won a few I could maybe see your point. As a club that hasn't won more than one it was worth taking the punt to win the second. And surely he cant be blamed for the SC position or the terrible drafting. The SC position had a huge influence as to why we dropped down the ladder so quickly. As did the poor recruiting.

Why do you think he isnt responsible for or atleast had a part in the SC position or the list management decision to recruit a bunch of reject players. For instance dean polo was attributed to ross and we all know how ross handled ball

Hell even freo supporters can see through lyons shite now

No way Lyon was a failure. Been said a million times over but Milne picks the ball up and Lyon goes down as the legend who broke St Kilda's premiership drought.

If freo supporters think Lyon is shite now there as bad as ours who think that. He made mistakes as every coach does. We lost 2 gf to two sides who had more aa than us in those years and I also hear we played guys who shouldn't have played but we somehow nearly win both games. How can that be with what I just said on top of a shite coach. It actually sounds impossible because it is impossuble

Was Lyon a failure? Not completely, we had 3-4 years the the top of the heap, 2 GF appearances, all the culmination of 10 years development. And we have no cup to show for it, no continuing legacy of competitiveness and the stkilda bubble disenfranchised many supporters during one of our clubs most successful periods. Was it all Lyons fault, hell no, if the club was better run, Lyon wouldn't of had the chance to screw up our future so badly, but alas. No cups, no competitiveness. That's a definition of failure in football.

Hawks had 7 players with less than 35 games when they beat West Coast on the weekend. Playing for the present and for the future are not mutually exclusive.

We got Lyon on the back of Thomas.
Thomas was coach/head recruiter/player welfare officer/ everything in the ***ing football department.
Lyon got the job of coach and did a good job.
He may have been surprised that he was expected to choose the recruits , fix up the schoolgirl incident, develop the young players, etc etc .
He may have even been supportive of the idea of improving the structure of the club in these area's.

I think Lyon was a good coach and got the most from the list.
He needed to have people taking responsibility for young player development and to facilitate some of their needs.
He needed to be given the list the club chose for him ( after hearing his requests ).

Milne didn't pick the ball up and the rest is history, we still only have one premiership, so why do we keep referring to this and Scarlett's bloody toe poke. Milne may have hit the post or sprayed a banana out of bounds had he have got he ball that day.

Personally I'm more a "why was a right angled deflection off a post called a goal?" question kinda guy out of the '09 GF. Because the rest is luck or lack thereof, this was just shizen officiating.

Will be interesting to see how the Essendon team who pretty comprehensively outplayed Melbourne last week go against the Port team who played us, minus Wingard, Hartlett, Schultz and Carlisle, who are all out injured.

Never a chance once Port got a sniff.

All respect to Melbourne as a club, thee is a vast difference between Essendon pinching a game against the Demons than there ever was them doing it against a side like Port whose best is still top 4 / minor premier best.

What do people think of the Crowbots this year? Not really talked about at all in the media except for being the team that that Dangerfield left. Going over their list it is actually fairly even. They have a good group coming up. They only have one old guy (Thompson). Can they challenge for a flag in the next two years?

Im bullish on them have a lot of blokes at the right age across the park and teaming Lever with Talia, as well as the form of Hartigan, have been a masterstroke. Their zone defence looked awesome against Port and they have a seriously ridiculous forward line of scpring potency. Huge chance to go deep in September!

We can never really say if Lyon was a mistake because he only came in and did half a job. Most of the list he took to the 09/10 GF's was there when he took over and the total failure of the club to lock him in long term meant he was never going to be playing youth a risking on field performances in a contract year. For all the shit Freo are copping right now they know they have Lyon through 2020. Both sides are in for the long haul so they can afford to go out with a plan of having a couple of down years to refresh the list before making another charge in 2019/2020 when the contract is up.

If Lyon was still our coach now and we were in the same position and getting the same sort of results then I would be saying it's time to move on and find someone to grow and develop the list fully. Had Lyon stayed though, who knows what our list would look like. Weren't there whispers of guys like Armo and Geary wanting out if Lyon stayed?

Ok so Richmond will win a few games when Deledio comes back BUT I think it is safe to rule the Pies and Tigers out of the 8. Tiges are odds on for 9th.

Crowbots - Heading for a top 4 finish.

Nah I reckon the will do their second half of the season and finish in the bottom half of the 8. Looks like another year of heart break bundled out in week one of finals.
