We can never really say if Lyon was a mistake because he only came in and did half a job. Most of the list he took to the 09/10 GF's was there when he took over and the total failure of the club to lock him in long term meant he was never going to be playing youth a risking on field performances in a contract year. For all the shit Freo are copping right now they know they have Lyon through 2020. Both sides are in for the long haul so they can afford to go out with a plan of having a couple of down years to refresh the list before making another charge in 2019/2020 when the contract is up.

If Lyon was still our coach now and we were in the same position and getting the same sort of results then I would be saying it's time to move on and find someone to grow and develop the list fully. Had Lyon stayed though, who knows what our list would look like. Weren't there whispers of guys like Armo and Geary wanting out if Lyon stayed?

for the 100th time. Lyon had 18 months to go in his contract when negotiations began. It was not in his last year of his contract.

Not sure if it's the right thread but I took my 3 year old to his first game today and the afl playground area outside gate 6 was fantastic. Shame his attention span ran out and we couldn't see the finish.
Does anyone know if Etihad has anything like this?

I don't know how they compare but there is a kids area outside Gate 5 at Etihad.

Nice first game for the kid BTW.

And to cap off a great day. Freo will be 0-3.
Freo are lucky not to have lost by 10 goals. They had no business being within 5 goals in the final quarter, let alone 5 points.

No I don't get it at all. Certainly my best ever memories as a Saints supporter when he coached. and I'm 54 years of age.
fair enough. probably not the place to say but as a side i thought you blokes were better under grant thomas

We had a 10 goal better side on paper under Thomas, we had a 10 gal better coach with Lyon. By the way bugger all will agree with me because we didn't win the flag and the Saints usually win flags.

Cheers will check it out next time. The young bloke was happy enough with a tram ride and a jack Steven badge!

They have an area set up with goals and handball drills etc around to the right of home games if you come over the bridge from spencer street.

Only three rounds down but where do we see us in comparison to other clubs?

My take (subject to change, I had us bottom 3 after last weekend ;) ):

Better than:
Ess
Carl
Coll
Bris

Potentially better than:
Rich
Melb

I think we are anywhere between a 12-14 team or 6-10 wins. I would love to see us show improvement from last season & get 7+ wins / finish better than 14th.

14th - 12th is my guess at the moment. But things can change very fast. Look at Melbourne playing at the moment (36-0 20 minutes into the game) compared to Round 1. Look at us this week compared to last week. I'll wait until about week 6 before making any further guesstimates.

I would add North to the list
