I bet the kids noticed too. Anyone who has kids knows they're not stupid, they pick up on it straight away.
It is the sort of thing that sticks with them.
Hope the club was informed, that's not good.

So much this.

I met Dean Jones when I was 11 and he told me in no uncertain words to "go and #$%^ off" so in my eyes, the man is always just below fecal matter, whereas other people may have glowing recommendations of the man.

Gringo you need to stop deciding if they are good guys on meeting them once or twice. Ive met people who I thought they were a real arseh*le after one meeting and ended up being a great bloke and vica versa. Ive also seen supporters with players who are great guys and ive seen supporters who if I was a player, I would spit on them. You have said previously Rooy comes across as aloof well ive met him many times and you couldn't meet a nicer guy. Then you tell a story at school about Bruce. Well ive heard he is fantastic at school visits and great around kids. Both stories could be crap because both of us weren't there but to say something like that without 100% proof isn't fair and then others pipe up and have a go at him. As far as him leaving well he is like 90% of players. If we pay crap he will leave. If we pay him well and show we are improving he will stay. He wont stay because he likes the players or the club. We have seen that far to many times to know that isn't enough.

What ever, I know someone who was there I trust more than I trust you. I thought it might be of interest to some people, obviously it's not to you and a few others so I will try to keep it to myself next time. Maybe you could tell us some interesting stuff seeing you hang around the guys you used to board. You are best mates with them all so you should have some interesting insights.

Don't let P66 be a reason not to share, please. He has a go at everybody, especially anybody who gets the inside word on something or someone at the club. It says far more about him than it does about you. Please keep posting any insights you have, Gringo - you are a valued member of this online community.

Thanks PS I'm not too worried about him but I seem to have annoyed a few others who opinions I respect more though which is a shame. I find the players off field personalities interesting from a psychological perspective. It can say a lot about how they play the game. I love watching the progression from a kid like Acres who was so shy it was painful at first into a confident young man, Lonie who was a straight up look you in the eye from day one kid etc. I think for people who don't get to meet them it's an interesting insight.

I didn't mean to character assassinate someone, I said he's been swaggering and cocky but always polite to me and my family. He pissed off an entire school community with his behaviour on one day including their principal who is a huge Saints fan. I know I don't have any idea what he's like with his friends or family but I report what I see and hear. I don't make it up or even write stuff I think might sound fictitious. I just thought I would share it. Obviously it's too negative though. I will try to stick to the positive stuff in the future.

That seems a pretty childish post. At least PS is happy for you to spread rumour on a person who met a player once at a school clinic. And can you name the players I'm best mates with? One of my best mates did play 6 games for Sydney 34 years ago. None of my best mates have played many if any since.

Negative stuff is fine but rumours and making opinions after meeting a person once or twice is a bit over the top. Especially as many people read it on here and make a decision on that person by what you write. I'm sure you have met many people and the first time you met them you did or didn't like them and then after a few times meeting them you realised you were completely wrong. Its certainly happened to me whether its a footballer, next door neighbour or work college.

You were balanced in what you relayed which was both first hand and a corroborating story which if only half true is still not a good look.
You weren't trying to suggest the guy is a terrible human being just that he wasn't the most friendly guy sometimes whilst meeting the public.
As supporters we have the right, more so than anyone, to tell it like it is and hold our players to account where we see something that isn't consistent with our values as stated by the club.
I saw nothing wrong with what you posted - it wasn't an attempt at character assassination to me.
Please don't hestitate to share this type of info in the future.

You said Lenny was your friend who pops over for barbecues and Jack Steven is your mate. Are you wanting me to list all your saints friends to pump your tyres? You do the rest of them.

I never mention anyone unless it is completely relevant to the thread but it seems you and a few others love to mention them. I know those 2 very well. None of them are my best mates. Pretty hard for Lenny to pop over for a BBQ as he lives in Hunters hill. All I can say is lucky he didn't have a son called Redfern.

Never met the man but I've heard similar stories. One of my favourites I heard first hand from an umpire who had given Deano out LBW. Jones saw the umpire a little while later and asked why he had been given out when it was clearly missing the stumps and received the reply 'because you're an ^#&$hole Deano'.

The club has them do the meeting fans stuff to get them to put the clubs image out there. If they act like dicks I will call them on it, they are stuffing up the task they were given. I like Bruce and was probably similar at the same age. If anyone wants to know how to treat fans they should follow Mav Weller, he came with a bad wrap and is an absolute gun of a guy with the fans. Others that are very good are Paddy, Steven, Newnes, Armo, Gilbert, Roberton, Curren, Lee, Longer and Holmes, it not hard to act civil.
Of course some ordinary people you meet turn out to be good blokes but if I met someone once and they came across as a bit of a dick I wouldn't post it.

I have met Bruce 4 times and seen him interacting at trainings and around St Kilda, it was an opinion from that- not one meeting. There are a few players I find absolute ********s but I wouldn't say who they were because it's not really interesting to me and retelling it would be petty. Bruce is a good bloke just has an attitude, a lot of KPFs have a swagger, you need a cool head and bit of bravado to be the main man. I have met Cloke and he is a big soft teddy bear and not what you would expect, it might be why he seems to unravel in front of goal.

I'm struggling to understand why people care so much about what players do off the field. As long as he's kicking goals TBH I couldn't give a stuff what else he does.

Whoah hold the phone.. what has Bruce done?

I am struggling to understand why some posters think they have a right to tell anyone what the can and can't post on this forum.

Gringo. Next time you have something to convey, put it in PM to relevant posters you trust.
I know many posters do that. I have received numerous PM'S that I won't discuss in this forum because of some posters. Reason why some ITKS leave

Apparently Deano is an improvement on his old man. My old man started playing District cricket as a teenager and Barney Jones, who was already an old hand, spat straight in the face of my old man as he took a single and ran down to the bowlers end, as well as copping some choice sledging from him. Apparently not off standard practice for Barney

It's not what Gringo relayed that's the problem IMO. It's the "yeah he looks like an arrogant bloke" stuff that followed.

Is it possible that he was just having a bad day? He IS human, after all.

FWIW, Jones is widely-acknowledged as a prize dickhead, but there's not many modern Australian international cricketers IMO who are a whole lot better; I still remember being part of a group of kids who were clamouring for an autograph from a newly-dismissed Boonie in a Shield match at the MCG, only to be screamed at to "**** off you little shits!"

He'd made a reasonable score too, it's not like he'd just made a duck.

It is essentially why he was left out of the Australian team depsite having such a good average and should have probably played more.

In saying all that his old man, who from memory was a great district cricketer, apparently was even more of a FIGJAM kind of person than old Deano. So the guy never had a chance....he was a damn fine cricketer though and was one of my faves back in the day

Anyone can post what they like however another person has a right to disagree with it and giving a reason they disagree. I don't like people posting things that make a player sounds like a tosser after meeting them once or twice. Kill me.

Don't know why anyone would want to kill you P66. You can have those views. Still don't know why you need to someone else's view though.
Also don't know why you would take offence to my advice to gringo. Surely it would benefit him and also you if you didn't read things that upset you.
Also means you wouldn't have to respond either

No worries. I gather you never have a go at someone elses view. Fine. It seems we are different. Cool. And I never take offence at anything on an anonymous forum only from people I know.
