What do you expect from a team coached by a coward that made his name of being 'tough' by throwing Lenny Hayes into a fence, breaking his wrist, & attacking an injured Nick Riewoldt as he struggled to compose himself after breaking his collarbone

Despite last week, I think the Roos are still a threat. Sydney got em at a good time on their home pile. But geez they need to win a premiership this year or next and they're going all out to do it. So, my question is, is North's fall going to be even harder than ours? Obviously they will give themselves a shot of winning next year, so they're not going to trade out players for draft picks at the end of this season. That means they get to the end of 2017 with top end players who in 2018 will turn:

Harvey, Brent 40
Petrie, Drew 35
Waite, Jarrad 35
Firrito, Michael 34
Dal Santo, Nick 34
Wells, Daniel 33
Ray, Farren (R) 32
Thompson, Scott 32
Gibson, Sam 32
Swallow, Andrew 31
Nahas, Robin (R) 30
Thomas, Lindsay 30
Higgins, Shaun 30
Goldstein, Todd 29
Hansen, Lachlan 29
Tippett, Joel 29
Tarrant, Robbie 29

I count at least 12 best 22 players. They'll all either be retired or not worth anything at the trade table. The'll probably have finished top 8 in 2017, meaning they will have to trade for decent draft picks and the only options would be Ziebell or Cunnington. I reckon 2018-19 could be beyond ugly for North. I hope they're saving a nest egg because their attendances will be terrible. And I genuinely hope they can win a premiership before then.

If the Saints stayed in Tasmania, do you think we would see the kind of crowds and ferver the Taswegians are showing, or is it a case of the Saints walking away, kindled a Tassie resolve to see AFL played their?

I see it a big loss, we walked because we couldn't win there, imagine if we had The Tasmania sponsorship that the Hawks have or the Spirit of Tasmania deal, both Government deals. the Home ground advantage of what would be 10 years playing there if we stayed.

can only shake our heads and say "what if"
kinda makes a case for how bad our Admin was during that golden period

At the time when the Saints were in tasmania, as we weren't winning games, Noone wanted to stay and everyone including the coach and supporters. So it wasn't just the coach. Although grant thomas really talked alot about not wanting to play matches in tassie. The admin gave in. The supporters were very happy that we didn't stay.

People just looked at it short term

Poty

Its funny reading through & seeing that it was Shane Savage & Tom Lee's original draft year

Ahh 2008. Remember Nick Heyne? Ali Smith! And Paul Cahill...? (Who?)

Managed to nail two picks in Lynch and Stanley who....eventually turned into Newnes and Goddard. Win, I think?

And then 5 years we later we grab the guy who went the pick after Cahill in a trade that's difficult to write down.

Did a similar trade to get Lee as well. (Went at Pick 60).

So, not all is lost from the 2008 draft. In a roundabout-ish way.

Brisbane is hopeless. Surely they'd be looking at someone like Ratten up there instead of Leppitsch.
Bit crap for them in a way with draft picks this year - Essendon don't deserve pick 1 imho because they would get it by cheating, and more than a few are claiming Freo are tanking.

I don't think they are tanking, but it's not a totally uncommon opinion.

I just think that somewhat like us, they haven't developed depth when they were near the top, and the players are somewhat mentally shot after being so close so many times. Those mental scars are only exacerbated by Ross' intensity.

Be interesting to see whether Ross can rebuild and develop a team from scratch. He doesn't have the runs on the board in that regard.
