A premiership literally 15,000 people would be happy about. Who gives a ****.
Sydney vs GWS GF's for next 3 years great times.... AFL will try to fix it by ending the Riverina academy, upping the salary cap big time, reducing f/a to 6 years and ending f/a compo except that just helps the big 4

Yep, am actually worried for the game in the next few years. Imagine a team like GWS go on to dominate for 3-4 years and next to nobody gives a ****.

It's been bad enough with a 'big' club the past few years and their 80,000** members

**of which only about 25,000 attend games, strangely

What a great day of footy in my household.

Watched the Saints have a ripping win on the tellie, took my boy (2.5 yrs old) to his 1st game (GWS v Hawks), then came home, put the popcorn on, grabbed a beer & watched the Richmond Benny Hill routine continue.... :)

Geezuz that Richmond board is depressing. Normally I love rolling in the opposition's misery but reading their review thread feels like it's actually taking part of my soul. They are going right back to square one. They missed their chances with Deledio, Cotchin, Maric and Jroo. This was a team that actually beat the Hawks on a regular basis over the last 4-5 years but then they choked away finals.

Now they face another 2-3 years of dropping down, cleaning up the list and putting in place the coaches and players to take them back up. Could be a legit 6-8 years before they play any finals again and given the failures of the last 30 years how could any of them be confident that it'll be done right this time?

For all the shit Saints fans cop for our lack of success over the span of the comp, our work in the modern era of AFL has been top shelf. One or two tweaks in personnel (or luck) along the way and we could have multiple flags from 97, 04-05 and 09-10. Every time we went down there has always been that confidence in the club to get back up eventually and even now, with a full rebuild in motion, we all see signs of a top flight team. So much so that the media and opposition supporters are given the club recognition when 2 years ago it was all "They wont win a game. They missed Petracca. Billings over Bont was a mistake."

Supporting Richmond though... uggh that's just soul destroying.

EDIT: Just saw that they play the Hawks on Friday night. Talk about copping it. Clarko will have that mob breathing literal fire after they got smashed yesterday.

I have too many Richmond supporting friends to want to see them do well, but even I think their situation depressing.
Nothing but vanilla recruiting for 5+ years. Conca, Vlaustin, Lennon, Ellis x 2 is very blah. Their defence is nothing without Rance. Midfield is mediocre when Martin and Cotchin don't fire a shot, which is regularly now. Forward line is okay and usually rises to the occasion.

They have nothing underneath their top stars. Their leaders are crap and their depth is horrible.

It's salvageable, but barely. They have a lot of class players to work with, but they do need to trade away someone like Dustin Martin and get another early pick.

Or all three sons pick WCE.

Gold Coast, gotta keep the tradition of starting off your career in a side with illicit drug issues before moving to greener pastures. I would say Essendon but then, it's not so much illicit as it is no human should have to go to that place by choice.

Vlaustin is a goer would have in a heartbeat , the kid is gun young midfielder played out if position.

The problem the tigers have is guys like Hampson, Vickery , Morris , McBean , Griffiths who are ordinary.
and they have no depth look at their VFL side.

Got it the wrong way round, it's not their recruiting, it's them.

Becoming a Tiger turns any player into a vanilla blahbot.

Even unique fruitloops like Martin, Maric and Cousins seem generic in the yellow and black.

I like the Tigers, but they never really seem to do or be anything for long. Shame.

They should get Ross in. They are weak mentally he would straighten them out.

Richmond relies on 6 decent to good players. If they don't fire, they lose. They sorely need some depth asap if they want to make the most of their top end talent.

HAte to say it, butt hey need to follow North's example and roll the doce or risk slipping right back into a rebuild.

WARNING: Incredibly weird post coming up

Since our game against GWS last week, and especially after their drubbing of the Hawks last night, I've been worrying about the juggernaut they're about to become. Now, those of you who know me (that would be precisely none of you I think) will know I am a huge Marvel fan. Bigger than Clive Palmer after a bucket of KFC, in fact. So, I thought why not put my two hobbies together to come up with a mega analogy? Plus, I'm bored atm.

Now, time to get on with the juicy stuff. Those of you who read comics or watch the movies, should be pretty familiar with Wolverine. For those of you who don't, he's basically this badass hairy mutant. Like any superhero he has powers - the two most important ones are a super quick healing ability that makes him almost immortal and a skeleton made out of the indestructible, fictional metal Adamantium.

So, why am I comparing GWS to them? Here are some reasons:

1. Wolverine was illegally experimented on to enhance his powers - The AFL head honchos did something similar to Greater Western Sydney. We all know how they formed - dump a billion draft picks into new club, put in one legendary coach, mix and you're done. You have one unbeatable club ready to go.

2. Wolverine has cool healing abilities - As mentioned before, Wolverine is almost immortal. His healing is so rapid, he barely ages and survives some pretty nasty battles. Again, GWS being gifted all these first round draft picks, a mini draft and pre-selections means that they have a seemingly unlimited pool of talent to call upon from the NEAFL. Jeremy Cameron injured? No worries, some guy called Rory Lobb will kick 4. You get the gist. Wolverine may be immortal (more or less), GWS are too.

How do we beat them? Simple (-ish), we look at how Wolverine is killed in the comics. As you'll see, for someone immortal, he dies a lot.

1. Beat him brutally - Basically, Wolverine was once killed because he got beaten so badly and so quickly, he never had any time to recover despite his healing. Unfortunately, we can't do this to GWS. The equivalent would've been to thrash them so much while they were in their infancy, they wouldn't have to confidence to carry on. We've missed the boat, so this is a no go.

2. Deadpool - Deadpool is like Wolverine but with better healing and a sense of humour. As a result, he's beaten Wolverine 3 times and lost once only because he was bored. Now, as evidenced by the social media team, we've got the humour down pat. However, to get better 'healing', we'll need more first rounders than GWS. Yeah, that's not going to happen. Unless the 17 other clubs do an Essendon (or a Carlton for that matter).

3. Remove the healing - Recently, Wolverine died because he loses his healing ability. How? It's a long story so I won't tell it here. In terms of GWS though, it means raiding their list. We'll need the help of the other clubs but if all of us continually take their players, then suddenly they won't have ready-made options to bring from their reserves. That should make them a lot more beatable.

Alternatively, we could just play better footy and beat them properly. But who has time for that?

Go Saints!
